Combative Trophy Day ahead

141

St Mirren have won eight points from their four post-split games, second only to Celtic in that respect. Fifth place and a European spot looked out of reach just a month ago, but as Saints bagged those points, Dundee United have lost all games. The Tannadice club cling onto the European spot by a single point.

This means we can expect Stephen Robinson’s side to be in combative form at Celtic Park tomorrow. With the league title already secured, Brendan Rodgers will be mindful of next week’s Scottish Cup Final, with all its historic consequences. His trepidation will be heightened by the injury to Reo Hatate during Wednesday’s combative game.

That should mean we see a similar line-up to Wednesday. James Forrest, Yang and Johnny Kenny leading the line, with Maik Nawrocki and Auston Trusty flanked by Anthony Ralston and Jeffrey Schlupp at the back.

Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo would both benefit from more game time to see if they can build on the good work at Pittodrie, while Callum McGregor is certain to start what is a celebratory day. Viljami Sinisalo has impressed over the last two months, but if Brendan intends to play Kasper Schmeichel in the Cup Final, he should play tomorrow. Cobwebs were evident against Hibs last week, another outing would help the keeper.

Enjoy the sunshine on Trophy Day.

  1. Just noted the passing of one of the greatest football writers Brian Glanville. Aged 93.

A legend in my opinion. Top quality journalist who coined the phrase ‘the greed is good league’ some 20 odd years ago.

    How prescient. RIP.

Yes no exclusion from the Westminster government from me either but without the support of the US of all political colours this carnage and murder of defenceless people stops.

Closer to home our own government cannot look after the health needs of our own people, with folk sitting months and years on waiting lists, people having to fund their own investigations into health problems as the snp run health service wont provide these, people using their savings to fund operations, all that is a scandal and incompetence from 14 yrs of the snp in charge of health.

I have lived in ENGLAND for 38 years and it is exactly the same here. So wind yir neck in re SNP.

  4. Brian Glanville RIP. Loved Italian football. Lived in Italy for years.

A wee story I remember about him:for a short period of time some might remember that Archie McPherson had a chat show and Brian was a guest on one of the programmes. He was telling a story about Pavarotti being in among Celtic fans at a game in Italy. Pavarotti told him that he thought the Celtic supporters were wonderful singers.

Archie then said, “Yes people often say such things about the Celtic and Rangers supporters.”

Brian then said, “He wasn’t talking about the Rangers supporters. He was talking specifically about the Celtic supporters.”

I think he knew what it was like up in Scotland. Archie put firmly in his place.

Sad loss to sports journalism indeed. Brian Glanville did more to expose the corruption In Italian football than anyone else, in particular the role of match fixing that helped prevent Brian Clough and Derby County from winning the European Cup in the early 1970s, or at least getting to the final, against Juventus I think, highlighting the fact that the match officials had been bought, something Cloughy suspected at the time. Not that the practise ended then, indeed Juve and others were caught again not so long ago.

Though primarily a Times writer, his obituaries were more likely to be found in the Guardian, including his tribute to Jimmy Johnstone, and many many others. A writer of the highest quality, the likes of which are rarely seen in sports writing these days. Sadly missed

    RIP Brian Glanville

Scotlands health budget is devolved, and os a % of spend from London,if London cuts our cuts must be in proportion to theirs, continual cuts over 14 years as Scotland by law must stay within the big hoos budgetary constraints,That is what has happened up til Keir Genocides party 1st budget when our weakest, elderly were picked on..

Decision making on Genocide is not devolved

The current govt are a vote for Genocide.

Holyrood decides how it spends the health budget that we have, if the budget is not meeting the cost then an open conversation with the public is required of what it wants the Health service to provide , including the funding model to meet that need, why is it that if people who have to go private will very likely see the same Consultant that they would in the NHS, looks to me like we need to pay these clinicians for their private time as well as their NHS salary, however has that even been suggested, you cant get the waiting lists down without the personnel to do the work, so it’s going to cost a lot more initially anyway, funding the cost is the issue, the funding model needs looked at.

Good luck to Celtic today and I hope for a speedy peaceful end to the war on the Palestinians in Gaza.

Have as many conversations as we like there is no more money given,i actualy agree with you re private practice,re same consultants, alas its always been so as the BMA (best union in world ) was anti NHS from day 1,hence if public sise is not funded as has been case last 15 or so years

But there is always money to support Genocide, that is not whispered or up for debate,

I suppose thats the way this labour govt want it,i suppose iff i was slaughterin children i would want no word of our oart in it.

We have hospitals here fortunately, while overseeing the bombing of them elsewhere.if only the tech put into bomblets which shred children was diverted to liife, but genocide will always be funded.

  14. Joe McHugh on Videocelts, offering his opinion on the club daring to arrange a tifo for all fans (not just the delinquents)…

“ While a Green Brigade Tifo can be trusted, the in-house one might decide to honour and recognise the contribution of the club Chairman, CEO or even a former Recruitment Chief who stepped down in March 2024 with no sign of taking up a football job since then.

The in-house Tifo could be to pay tribute to some business partners including the transport form owned by the second biggest shareholder in the 2012 Ibrox Tribute Act. ‘Thanks again to our friends at Parks of Hamilton’ can’t be ruled out or support for Brian Wilson’s favourite Union”.

I fear that type of thing is likely to increase as it finally dawns on THEM that their team is among the also-rans.

  18. Marrakesh Express on

Brian Glanville was the greatest football writer ever.

In his book Champions of Europe, he analysed each campaign and final and for the 1967 game he wrote (best of my memory) …’Celtic’s had not only two wingers of electric pace and wizardry, but two midfield generals running the show. Murdoch was the heartbeat of a team geared for all out attack. Inter couldn’t cope, cattenacio and all.’ Stein was also praised highly by a man who had seen it all in world football.

    RIP Brian.

Watching Daniel Arzani’s Melb Victory take on Auckland on telly right now (a keenly fought game).

Arzani has added better workrate and fight to his game. More than Yang imo. Danny still got great feet.

If I had to pick between Arzani or Tilio, I’d say the former is currently the better.

  20. PS ….and the polis are saving their energies for our celebrations after the match.
