STEVEN GERRARD has dodged squaring up again to Brendan Rodgers following his rejection of the Ibrox hierarchy’s bid to succeed sacked Russell Martin.
The former Govan gaffer, who was at the club between 2018 and 2021, was considered a shoo-in for the position, but the 45-year-old Liverpool legend declined the offer to send the American owners scurrying elsewhere for a permanent team boss.
The side are currently eighth in the Premiership – with just one win from five games – and they are due to host Dundee United on Saturday, 24 hours before the champions take on Dundee at Dens Park.

IN THE BEGINNING…Brendan Rodgers greets Mark Warburton as he prepares for his first derby encounter, the rousing 5-1 romp at Parkhead in September 2016.
Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who has been out of work since leaving Hillsborough in July, has also had talks with the strugglers who axed Martin a week ago today following a drab 1-1 draw at Falkirk.
The Ibrox side are due to face holders Celtic in the Premier Sports League Cup semi-final at Hampden in three weeks’ time – and Rodgers is already preparing for a confrontation with his NINTH Ibrox foe.
Over the Irishman’s two stints, he has faced up to a conveyor belt of Govan gaffers in the shape of Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixhinho, Gerrard, Michael Beale, Philippe Clement and Martin in permanent roles plus Graeme Murty and Barry Ferguson in caretaker capacities.
