Coming of Age Day at Celtic Park

478

Celtic Park was packed with an expectant crowd 11 years ago when Celtic took a two goal lead into the second leg of a Champions League play-off round.  Many of us felt it was to be a sort of Coming of Age.  After our long hard slog throughout the 90s we were champions and ruthlessly swept aside Ajax in the first leg.

After the full time whistle arms were aloft in celebration but only after an incredibly tense 90 minutes which saw the visitors win the game and fail to convert some decent chances.

Four years after our last entry into the Champions League this new Celtic side have a Coming of Age opportunity tonight.  Last season they showed their mettle to overcome a daunting deficit early in the season to win as comfortable champions, with or without penalties applied to opponents for employing more footballers than they could afford.

While the players may reach a new stage in their development tonight is as much about the supporters who have been part of the struggle in recent seasons.  This is your reward for all those hard times when your club paid their bills but had victory snatched away from them by others who were playing to different rules.

Bring your singing voice tonight.

  2. Anybody know if we are able to exit the joint sponsorship deal with tennents.

Our original partners are about to be liquidated yet a brand new club in the 3rd division are sporting almost identical kit with the tennents logo. (All that’s missing is the 5 stars)

To the outside world you could be excused for thinking this brand new club is our joint partner, which I pray to god It’s not.

What would be in it for us to get in tow with a bunch of bullying, lying, cheating bigots.

We made the mistake once. No more joint deals with any club that represents the very worst of society.

  3. Why has our confidence been replaced by nervousness?

Prior to the first game we reckoned that we had got one of the best draws possible. We would have taken a 1 – 1 draw in the first game and felt really confident about the second game. Now that the BIG moment is upon us, we are nervous, yet we are in a much better position than we wished for. We need to pass on our confidence, instead of our nerves, to the players.

Unfortunately, I won’t be at Paradise tonight, but instead will be watching on lovely Cape Cod.

Many of those in the OO reject they have any connections to terrorism- so they can take the high horse approach.

What of the Orange Volunteers- still active and still administering threats to prominent members of Sinn Fein and other members of the nationalist community?

In any case we all know the OO’s traditional relationship with the Loyalist paramilitaries.

  6. I’m looking forward to tonight’s game. If we make to sort of noise we can the Helsingborg players simply won’t know what has hit them, they’ll be blown away, then the team can finish them off.

A great performance tonight and a solid win to herald our comeback in the Group Stages.

    If that happens then no one wants us in their group for Fridays draw;

Plant the seed of doubt early,

a big performance is what we need. The games not starting until 20:45 here so don’t give the score away at half time ;)

It’ll be a different game tonight with Big Vic sitting in front of the back four.

I can’t see Helsingborg making the same chances tonight.

They need to come at us and score at least twice.

That should mean some space for James to rip them a new one.

    Confident we will go through.

  12. Greetings from The Celtic Supporters Club Budapest. We’ll be gathering tonight to add our support and will raise a glass of our 1.40 GBP pints of lager. Can’t wait and predict another 2-0 result, with Hooper and Sammi doing the business.

  13. Bom dia,

Stuck in Venice airport, waiting to fly back to Brasil. Will be in the air for the kick off tonight, but will try and convince some poor unsuspectiung barman in Paris Charrles de Gaulle to show the game while I wait for a connecting flight.

Last time I did this I was advised to calm down or they’d turn the telly off. Philistines!!

Anyway, good luck to wee Ross, who will be leading out the teams this evening. Only man taller than the wee fellah at Paradise tonight, will be his auld man, Gerry.
