Commercial consequences of Ramsden

717

The commercial consequences of Sunday’s Ramsdens’ Cup Final result didn’t occur to me until Celtic released season ticket news yesterday.  Over the years, when possible, Celtic and Rangers released season ticket renewal notices on the back of a favourable result.

As well as a party at Ibrox on Sunday night, the wheels would have been ready to roll with photographs of newly acquired silverware and a plea from the most expensive failed-yet-retained manager in history to renew early.  There may even have been a price increase this year, slipped in amid the feel-good factor.

There has been a lot of talk about how critical season ticket sales are to Newco Rangers but we are no different.  The circa 40,000 people who commit to support Celtic each season are the rock bed upon which all plans are made.  Sure, Champions League money is critical, but without this volume of season ticket sales there would be no Champions League money.  The season ticket is the Badge of Honour in Scottish football, during these critical years more than any other time.

In 2012 when we campaigned to deny a new club access to an elevated position in Scottish football we did so in the knowledge that competition in the league would be different going forward.  This was our preference.  While actual attendances have often been below season ticket levels I know that to a man, woman and child, everyone who pitches up to watch Celtic appreciates being apart from the scourge which afflicted us for so many years.  This is the way I like my football, long may it last.

If I won the lottery tonight I would be at every Celtic match for the rest of my life home, away and abroad. It would be my hobby. I may attend another game like the Madrid v Barca match but only if Celtic were not playing. There is no danger I would sack any Celtic match to watch another team IF money was no object.

Do Sevco still have the biggest prize in world football? Trying to hit the bar from the half way line or has Swally already won it?

Is that one who believes in Catholicism but is pragmatic enough not to convert before his time as PM is up.

Justafan, when we see a non Anglican, non Protestant as PM, then I will believe this is possible.

    And not before.

The Act of Settlement may not state a RC cannot be PM, but it sure as hell suggests it.

Can you imagine the Monarch rubber stamping a RC’s appointment of the Archbishop of Canterbury?

Not very likely, constitutional change is required for equality, the involvement of Church and State is not a good thing, in my opinion.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s true. The Greatest Prize in world football is the crossbar challenge at ibroke.

All you have to do is kick a football from the centre spot to hit the bar. Simple*

*The centre of the ball is filled with broken bricks. You must take the kick wearing a pair of stompeez whilst running with your trousers round your ankles.

Celtic look a bit short of players available to provide cover for Emilio at left-back.

Joe Chalmers seems to be making a decent fist of his loan spell at Falkirk.

Statistics are showing him with 7 appearances ( 1 substitute) since he went there at the end of January from which games Falkirk have 5 wins and 1 draw. The club are sitting third in the Championship, four points behind the joint two leaders with four more games to play.

Perhaps a lurking Falkirk fan ( hahaha, couldn’t resist it) or one of his family or friends could tell us how he’s doing there. Is he playing at left-back?

Anyway, as it’s often written here……You gotta go, Joe. Hope to see you next season.

There’s no legal bar to a Catholic holding any office of state other than monarch, and that’s because the monarch is head of the church of England.

    Them’s the facts.

If you don’t believe me check Hansard.

Now, can anyone tell me if there’s any law to stop the SNP having a Catholic in their cabinet?

    good value.

  14. my experience of racism is very much the flip side of what most other people have experienced, away back in the last century I bought a corner shop in Hamilton from an Asian family. we traded away often being called white pakies, but as it was all in fun no offence was ever implied or taken, busness was good and we moved house from larkhall to Hamilton in 2001 (don’t ask me about bigotry, that is a separate issue) in 2002 we then bought our second shop in the silvertonhill area of Hamilton, as there was no need to inform the VAT of our additional shop we just continued trading away the wife ‘four kids, two dugs and me the white tim packies fae larky (how to confuse a racist bigot?) …..now to the crux of my story I received a letter to inform me that I was to get a vat inspection in the December of 2004, so I informs my accountant who duly attends when the vat man comes to call, mr C HE SAYS IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THERE HAS BEEN A VERY SIGNIFICANT SPIKE IN YOUR TURNOVER SINCE THE START OF 2003 CAN YOU EXPLAIN THIS?…. when I explained that shop two was just bought the year before and with the purchasing costs and restocking meant that only at the start of 2003 did we actually start to clear our feet, after quite a bit of oooing and aaaing he came to ythe conclusion that I was just being evasive and that I had only started to declare the true sales figures to increase the market value of the shops PAKISTANIS ARE RENOWN FOR THIS (his words)…..now he wouldn’t even consider saying that ten years on and his ruling came back a fine of just under £9k….or potential jailtime….on appeal I submitted both shops till rolls, highlighting that there was a spike everytime celtic were playing. I also added that having proudly announce that I was a celtic man a lot of the celtic people in the area where loyal to me and my family. it was a worrying few weeks but I did win my appeal for obvious reasons I never made it to Seville, but I still have a story to tell about ‘my’ road to Seville H. H.

  15. Re MIH and Murray the move is to acquire the best assets from MIH and sell at a huge discount to his “private” family business. This is effectively his “get out of jail card” and by selling hundreds of acres in prime West Edinburgh for a paltry 11m to himself he is setting himself up for a massive windfall in future years. A shafting for LBG and the taxpayer..

The big worry for this weekend is that Sevco get regally pumped by DU and the gullible start to see through the pieman, and I see they are starting their excuses by announcing injuries to their under 17 players as if they would make any difference. Best for us is that the MIB plays a blinder awarding a penalty to Sevco and sending off at least one DU player. That way Du are likely to only win by one or two and the gullible go on believing their manager Is the special one.

Sevco are at home and the press will ramp it up this week that they are huge underdogs and United are a top league team with millions of pounds worth of young talent in their side.

Jackie will be questioned about everything to do with this game and they will try and ruffle him. Wee Jackie is a silent assassin though and won;t be ruffled by the MSM.

Swally will sing from the same hymn sheet as the MSM and probably make light of his karoake perfomance and the lapdogs will lap it up.

I think Dundee United will have it tough if they do not score early. It’s a very nervy match. They have players who have been over the course before though and I reckon Rankin will be a huge player for United. He was rotten at Hibernian but seems to have found a new lease of life playing with the kids at Tannadice. I will maybe have a wee punt on him to score first. He likes a shot from distance and looks like a wee Tim so he will be up for it. Good price as well.

The key for United is keeping 11 men on the pitch for 90 mins. If they do that they should win no worries. They must keep the heid.

I watched Aberdeen last night and must say that they looked average until they get near the box. Their players come alive in front of goal. I suspect they have become a wee bit jaded with the number of games and the excitement of the last few weeks. The cup is pretty much wide open and it wouldn;t surprise me if the Arabs met St Johnstone in the final. My tips at the weekend would be St Johnstone plus a goal and United minus a goal.

Nice wee double if anyone fancies a punt.

    Note: Please gamble responsibly.

  23. I am reading the Zlatan Ibrahimovic autobiography at the moment.

I’m only up to the time he was playing for Ajax.

So far,by his own admission,he has been guilty of theft, hooliganism, destruction of property, disrespecting opponents, disrespecting team mates, disrespecting coaches and managers, assault off the pitch, assault on the pitch and failure to adhere to club policies, training regimes and lifestyle behaviour…..and that’s only the bits I remember!!

Just as a wee matter of interest, given recent alleged misdemeanours by a current Celtic player, how would you react if Zlatan offered to come to Celtic and play for free?
