Commons future beyond 2017

341

When Kris Commons’ new contract expires in 2017, he will be the same age Lubomir Moravcik was when he joined Celtic as a 33-year-old in 1998.  We now mock those who mocoked Celtic for signing the Slovak genius.  While this may be Commons last contract, if the player applies himself as professionally over the next two years as he has since arriving at Celtic four years ago, his twilight years will continue to be effective.

He is our fulcrum.  When you write Celtic match reports these days you find yourself sampling your Commons notes, whereas pretty much everything of note the rest of the team does is recorded.  He is not the most industrious and will not feature high on many recorded metrics, but he’s the archetypal Moneyball footballer: an over 30 and apparently the wrong shaped marvel.

I’m not usually one to rush to Neg’s aid but he has provided evidence. It’s circumstantial rather than concrete but nonetheless he’s looked at some events and reached a conclusion. You disagree with it and that’s your entitlement.

Point being I was interested in what you opined. That’s interested as in, is Neganon2 right or wrong. Can he win his arguement or is he just flapping about again….

It seemed like a debate between you guys. I was open to persuasion, hence the “lose”.

I sincerely hope KC now buckles down and buys in to the 24 hour footballer mentality that RD has been preaching to the rest of the squad about.

There has been a very notable difference is physique and fitness from most of the squad – bar KC.

Personally I do not think he has bought in to it in the same whole hearted manner as the rest of the squad have, evidenced by the obvious loss of weight from players we didnt think had any left to give (Griffiths and Stokes the main ones) and fitness from players we previously thought we our fittest (Izaguirre).

If KC does commit himself as fully as others then I am more inclined to agree with Paul67’s final summation that his twilight years can be as effective as before.

p.s. he must have been relived when Scepovic signed because up until then I say he’d have been lagging way behind the rest for sprints!

I’m sorry mate but he’s reached a conclusion, which is fine, but he’s not provided evidence to support it.

His claim is that the Catholic Church have said nothing to highlight reservations about the OBaF Act. I’ve given him a quote from Peter Kearney which was made since the Act was set in statute I’ve and directed him towards the minutes from the initial JAG meetings where the reservations and concerns of the church are clearly outlined.

His opinion is fine but I can’t agree with his claims as fact unless he is able to provide supporting evidence. He can’t.

I didn’t assume anything either way, but thanks for clarifying. You must be a man of sound judgement and exceptional handsomeness.

Stokesie often gets a bad rap. He didn’t play that well on Sunday (cared a bit too much?) but he keeps popping up with goals and assists, even now that he’s playing in Sammi’s old spot.

  14. King is torn a new one by MA’s Sevco board. This part of the Sevco 5088 statement is worth a wee copy n paste:

“In addition to Mr King’s convictions in South Africa and the legal advice which the Board has received about the Scottish Football Association’s “fit and proper” person requirement, the Board has a further concern about Mr King which is that his appointment would be in breach of section 216 of the Insolvency Act 1986.”

  16. Good day to one and all. Disappointed that I will miss the Belfast hootenanny, it’s just came to quick for me to recover in time, but I have booked a break to Kraków in mid March! My question is…on the Friday that I’m there it’s the local derby, Wisla v Cracovia(sp). I have heard so many stories re Polish football, I was wondering is it safe to take Mrs Frantic? Or give it a miss, and just soak up the atmosphere between the fans in the old town?

Any info re Kraków most welcome. Oh btw, those going to Belfast, drink responsibly! Aye right! Frantic07.

I may have missed a couple of points raised then. I understood his argument was that they hadn’t done enough. Based on his impression that they’d quietened down after meetings with the Govt.

Not withstanding your weightier evidence that’s plenty enough evidence to back his interpretation (i’m completely agnostic on this). He’s looked at comments before and after the meeting (or lack thereof) and concluded that they decided to back off.

I’m a firm believer in the adage that an opinion that isn’t backed by evidence is worthless but I’m open to that evidence being circumstantial.

I must get on with some tedious coding so ’til later. HH

Surely Craig Gordon should be in that list somewhere? For me he would be vying for all of the top spots for most skillful/influential/classiest/confident. I agree Scott Brown may just shade it for most influential.

  21. I believe Commons is the most skillful player with the ball at his feet. Can turn on a two bob bit and great with ball at feet in tight spaces.

His control at times collecting the ball and his passing is what stops him being a wrold class player comparible with the likes of Lubo. But that aside he is a great player comparible with any we have right now.

    Unfortunately, no.

We lost an evenly contested final, v Clydebank High, 3-4, at Firhill.

They were a very good team, led by a lad called, Bobby Hope, seriously.

He went to West Brom shortly after.

It was the only game we lost all season and the late Glenn Gibbons was our No.1 supporter!

I hadn’t read the Blog properly as I had just come in from an intensive day at work.

I am truly sorry to hear about your sister Rena, she’s in a better place now. I have a good friend who has been struck down by Parkinson’s and to see what it can do to a vibrant, intelligent human being is shocking. It is a truly devastating condition which has not only a significant impact on the sufferer but also the afflicted’s family.

    RIP Rena
