Commons, Hartson and some real Celtic heroes

907

Had a great time at the Celtic Supporters Association Rally last night.  It was a great celebration of all that is good about our club, with thousands of pounds raised for the John Hartson Foundation.  Neil Lennon spoke warmly of John, about his courage and ability.  As well as recognising the great achievements of this season, CSA Player of the Year, Kris Commons, could not hide his disappointment that we are not going for a treble next week.  Hibs will have their hands full with him at Hampden next week.

I’ve never heard a footballer talk as John Hartson did.  He was clearly emotional as he took the microphone from the manager but soon go into his flow.  He told us about the three hours spent in the car before telling his family the diagnosis of his illness.  His achievements as a footballer are remarkable and John is very proud of them.  His absence through injury in Seville clearly hurt.  Did it pass a crucial advantage to Porto?  John thinks so.

His own failings were put out there with the disarming confidence that only someone who has climbed a few personal mountains can do.  The ‘hangers-on’, who filled his days a few years ago, had their cards marked.

Reamonn Gormley’s parents, Jim and Ann, were also guests of the Association.  Jim asked me to pass on a thank you from him and Ann to all Celtic fans for what they have done for them and the Thai Tims in the last two years.  Their world will never be the same again but the support they have received from the Celtic Family has overwhelmed them.  Your community has done very well, but there is nothing new in that.

With supporters like we have our club is in good hands.   Well done to all who carry out the thankless tasks running busses, organising fundraisers and keeping the moral compass pointing in the right direction.

The ones who are run out of town through inter loyalists feuds tend to end up in Ayrshire. You can see the attraction for them.

So when Salmond said ‘We didn’t mind the economic side so much’ about Thatcher, was he speaking for you?

BCW – many years ago in Paisley, I had the misfortune to be in the company of an RUC sergeant who was over on holiday. This was well before the Good Friday agreement, but he told me that if there was any kind of peace deal, then he would retire and move to somewhere quiet on the West coast of Scotland.

He was afraid of reprisals that could go on for many years and he was convinced that there were plenty with the same plans as him!

    Frightening prospect….

  5. ‘There is a prejudgment going on right now as well

and it centres around Whyte and Charles Green

and the suspicion that they were in cahoots

    when buying the club.

Let’s be clear. There is alot of evidence that suggests they were.

And if that turns out to be the case, then the sky

is going to fall in on Rangers in a way that made

last summer’s implosion look like a warm up act.’

  6. there is definitely a link between snp and “establishment ” scots

Catholic schools will disappear and it will create a very triumphal

  9. No Ernie he did not speak for me. Did he speak for you? Did Blair speak for you when he told us we could be destroyed by chemical weapons within 45 minutes. Did Blair and Brown speak for you when they invited Thatcher to Downing street with open arms? i could go at length with similar quotes which would embarrass a true socialist to have to answer. But I will not. I will simply ask you does Scotland under its current parliament have more socialist policies than the rest of the UK. Would you agree that the Labour party of Westminster still has the same values which it started with and you as a socialist would expect. Honestly Ernie the time for hiding behind the idea of internationalist socialism (whilst at the same time condemning Scotland to a lifetime of Londoncentric right of centre rule), are over. If you are really a socialist then to quote Billy Bragg

They’re already shipping the body bags

    Down by the rio grande

But you can fight for democracy at home

And not in some foreign land .

Anyway Ernie as is often stated on here i’m aff oot, but will check in later to see what if anything you have replied to.

As a preview of what the SNP has planned just consider who was behind the reporting of Celtic for offensive chants to both the SFA and UEFA- consider the actions of the police match commanders who compiled these reports and those who monitor Mordor on a weekly basis- have no doubt that the reasons for both reports originated from Wee Alex’s bunker. Very much a toe the line or see what we can do to you event. Its also the SNP who are openly advocating the anti tim aspect of the football legislation and even opposing the movement of the superstore because it might impact on Tesco’s- they are making their intentions clear

As has been said, anywhere else in the world, the media would be moving heaven and earth to get to the truth of these leaks, instead of dissembling.

IMO they are certain that they are factual, but haven’t a clue what to do next.

In which respect, they are exactly like the SFA,etc-they had hoped that nothing would leak, that they had weathered the storm, and everything could just carry on as normal.

Secrets rarely remain so when any party to a conspiracy feels hard done by…..

  12. ‘If.The doomsday picture shows Rangers

having conducted a dodgy share issue as well as

obtaining an SFA licence under false pretences.

Every rule book would have been breached

if it is proven that Green and Whyte

were definitely and indisputably a team. If.

I wouldn’t trust the SNP as far as I could throw them. Their flagship legislation appears to be a vehicle for targeting Celtic fans. But more than that politics in Scotland always has an underlying sectarianism. Scottish Conservative and Unionist party? I wonder who that is designed to appeal to?

And you only need to look at the review of the rules governing parades that Glasgow’s Labour run council instigated. Why would they do that?

Catholic schools in an independent Scotland would be under threat from whoever governed.

Independence not for me I’m afraid. What we have is far from perfect but the alternative is no alternative as far as I can see.

Anyone not voting for our the Labour party in the UK is voting for facists.

    Just my opinion ken likesy.

I’ve got plenty to say on Galloway and the politics of fear but I’ll save it for later. There’s a game on.

  17. Surprised at team selection. Lenny has decided to play the players who will feature in Cup Final rather then wrap them in cotton wool. I thought Vic & Kayal would have been definite starters but they are obviously gone on an early holiday. Significant he is giving Paddy a start on what seems his last game. Wonder what will happen if he has an absolute blinder. I think Dylan needs game time to qualify for an SPL medal so he is one will defo come on at some stage.
