Commons, Hartson and some real Celtic heroes

907

Had a great time at the Celtic Supporters Association Rally last night.  It was a great celebration of all that is good about our club, with thousands of pounds raised for the John Hartson Foundation.  Neil Lennon spoke warmly of John, about his courage and ability.  As well as recognising the great achievements of this season, CSA Player of the Year, Kris Commons, could not hide his disappointment that we are not going for a treble next week.  Hibs will have their hands full with him at Hampden next week.

I’ve never heard a footballer talk as John Hartson did.  He was clearly emotional as he took the microphone from the manager but soon go into his flow.  He told us about the three hours spent in the car before telling his family the diagnosis of his illness.  His achievements as a footballer are remarkable and John is very proud of them.  His absence through injury in Seville clearly hurt.  Did it pass a crucial advantage to Porto?  John thinks so.

His own failings were put out there with the disarming confidence that only someone who has climbed a few personal mountains can do.  The ‘hangers-on’, who filled his days a few years ago, had their cards marked.

Reamonn Gormley’s parents, Jim and Ann, were also guests of the Association.  Jim asked me to pass on a thank you from him and Ann to all Celtic fans for what they have done for them and the Thai Tims in the last two years.  Their world will never be the same again but the support they have received from the Celtic Family has overwhelmed them.  Your community has done very well, but there is nothing new in that.

With supporters like we have our club is in good hands.   Well done to all who carry out the thankless tasks running busses, organising fundraisers and keeping the moral compass pointing in the right direction.

According to SSB Celtic will be in the black strip next week, their choice ,apparently.

  2. Managed to get 2 tickets for cup final but they’re in hibs section. Bringing my 11 yr old son to it but not sure how safe/enjoyable it will be.

    Any advice?

I presume it would be wise to leave the hoops at home (something I’m not happy about)

This BT Sport seems to be a good option for sport……free if you have BT broadband, and £12 per month if you have your Broadband with another SP …… was just watching it on SKY Channel 414 (still on) ….. 414 must be the channel it will be on if watching it via SKY …?

I’ll certainly be considering it since it is free for me, having BT Broadband already…..if they start showing films etc also, it will be a (free) no-brainer for me …….. Helps my decision, with the BT CEO also being on our Board………don’t see why it can’t develop into Cub channels also……choose your club from a menu, and what do we have ? …….CELTIC TV…!!!!????

  13. With the club going from strength to strength and honouring the ‘celts for change’ today. I look upon the whole ‘ we ur the peepul’ stance whilst sitting back and allowing their club to be destroyed as pitiful.

The thing is, I have no pity for that horrible mob. Just die will you and try and do it with a bit of dignity for once in your existence.

SB enjoy your afternoon watching come dine with me.

  24. I believe I would be correct to think that it was the refs decision to make Celtic play in a black strip in the SCF ?

If not – I stand to be corrected.

Where I’m going with this is – Dallas’s influence is still being felt over us.

Now, by my reckoning…Dallas wisny sacked by the SFA – he was allowed to leave ?!?!

I believe that it’s at that point – Celtic FC should have been alerting UEFA to what this prominent referee had been up to.

If UEFA know what Dallas did – why is he employed by them – on any level ?

Too much white on the strips – too much green on the strips – what a load of BS.imo

But, the biggest culprits here are the Celtic marketing folk. Black strips for the Cellic ?

GTF wi that. Oh, I forgot…there’s a wee tricolor on the sleeve. FMM

So it is! I’m going to need a bigger hipflask!

Was that done in 1 day? I did that over 2 days.

How did you find the “hospitality” en route? We were treated abysmally back in 1990. The first friendly welcome we got was from a wee Donegal man who ran the Kinlochleven bunkhouse.

This is partly why I am doing it in installments over several weekends this year.
