Commons needed for busy February

963

Neil Lennon’s comments that he will need to sell at Bolton Wanderers before making a bid for Kris Commons, or anyone else, are welcome.  Celtic have four important games in the four weeks after this transfer window closes: home and away to Inter Milan, Aberdeen in the league, and a League Cup semi-final against newco Rangers.  Commons will be vital for some, if not all of these games.

Inter will play on the front foot and Aberdeen have the players to take the game to us, as they did in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, but I expect newco to defend their 18 yard line in numbers, a bit like Ross County did last week, a scenario which will require someone with Commons’ craft.

Neil Warnock’s sacking at Crystal Palace was good news, as he wanted Commons, had money to spend and could offer the allure of top-flight football.  Neil Lennon would be able to offer Commons familiarity, but with Bolton spending a total of £300k in the summer, their chances of being able to afford a bid for Commons that would raise Celtic’s interest are limited.

Odegaard is close to signing for Southampton.

The ongoing saga with JG’s contract negotiations are having an adverse affect on his game and should be put on the back burner until the league is won. His head is not right at this point in time.

Would rather sign Armstrong if we were signing anybody from United. Although to be fair have not seen much of Erskine.

TCR also said that he is an excellent footballer.

    Definitely worth signing I reckon.

I don’t personally know Peter, I do however know people that do, and to a man and a woman they all speak well of him and big up his Celtic credentials?

Brilliant, magic, our very own CEO is a supporter. I’m really glad of that.

My simple question is have we, as a club, progressed/regressed, under his watch, over that watch’s time span, whilst the five-way-agreement was signed and Celtic employees went home of night not being paid the living wage?

(and a host of other things too but I’m too tired to list)

  6. Guys, my info on Wakaso comes from his long interview for Russian press, few other articles in Russian press and his Rubin coach interviews. No mistake there. I could tell much more about Wakaso. You say a winger? I say :new country, new language, new culture , new environment, new style of the game … And he is asked to play on new position.

I think the Armstrong would do a job at Celtic given the chance. Not so sure about the others you allude to.

Proffessor Green. Now Fella Southampton are a club who have not been mentioned for Odegaard but who knows. I believe for Celtic it this window to sign big John or never if we wait until summer we will lose the player in my opinion.I do agree though it seems to be affecting his on the park performances. United are very crafty mate – they would be looking big money for Armstrong.

Would he be worth that kind of expenditure?

I’m am not certain that he would represent decent value for money.

Think you may be right about Armstrong. Last time Celtic spent big money on a Scottish domestic player it took several years for him to come good (Scott brown).

One week before Wakaso signed for Celtic, his coach at Rubin said more or less : “Wakaso is one of our four defensive midfielders. He won’t be my first choice and won’t get many chances. On the other hand, he is too good to stay on the bench. I told him, better if he finds new club”

Agreed United would play hardball and be looking for a couple of million. But maybe it’s time we started taking a gamble on players closer to home than some of the foreign duds we’ve signed in the last couple of years.

I want to understand where you are coming from, so thank you for the lecture on not asking someone a question to answer there’s. This is coming from you who tells someone that what they (you) have just said isn’t offensive, when its for the recipient to decide on somethings offensiveness or not….

Moving on, out of the list provided I would say the fact these players have come through a rigourrus and demanding youth system to play first team football is massive achievement. Many became main stays of the first team for years and one became the captain, champions league performers and league and cup winners in there as well.

Agreed they aren’t the same calibre of player from yesteryear. It all depends on what angle you want from your debate or point you are trying to prove, which I’m not sure what you are trying to suggest?

  16. Just in from taking in Morton v Airdrie. Close to hypothermia. Will type this before I pass oot.

Morton have a young left back. Mark Russell. Best player on the park by a mile.

Good wee Celt giving it tight to Keevin’s ….hahahaha …..Keevin’s resorts to sarcasm …. Prat

  19. Not went over all the comments yet but if commons is off in January, which is probably right if he is off in the summer anyway, should we move for Scott Allan? Got to be well priced and tbh has looked very good in the last few games. More of an advanced creative player than what we have other than commons. Also if Virgil is off in the summer would we be smart to move for Wilson? I like him, he’s young and again cheap. Would easily cover if we can’t get our man the week before leg two of the champs qualifiers. Be ready in Jan with a steady team unless we want to build our qualification team in Jan which I can’t see us doing.

It makes sense to get our side ready in Jan for the qualifiers but history has showed we don’t.

I’d be surprised if he signed for us, can you imagine what sort of plonker his agent would be if he signed for us?

Wakaso a winger in Spain ? Again Russian press. There was an interesting translation from Spanish press and question to Rubin coach if he needs that type of player. The problem with Wakaso in Spain was , the number of yellow and red cards was much too high even if his position was DF.
