Commons phenomenal contribution

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

There was a warning on the Celtic web site last week about such calls. ‘Boiler room scams’ they’re called, the advise was to ignore them or if they persist to try an get their number and report them.

    Brilliant stuff from old Leggo.

He must’ve went easy on the Harpic last night and allowed a sliver of clarity to seep into his thinking.

Re: his writing being peppered with accusations of “bigot”, offered without any evidence or argument. People who are quick to accuse others of dishonesty are usually untrustworthy, people who are constantly on the lookout for opportunities to smear others as racists are usually grotesque characters themselves, etc. So there you go. (thumbsup)

The departure of Rangers creates an opportunity for improvement in the quality of Scottish football. A good starting point would be greater protection by referees of quality footballers like Kris Commons. This would require a major change of policy when you consider that we lost Kayal and Forrest for much of last season as a result of brutal tackles against Rangers and Kilmarnock for which the culprits went unpunished. You do not see too many over-the-ball tackles going unpunished in Spanish football. Waken up refs!

  8. Interesting stuff after Spartak : Fenerbahce game in Moscow.

Russian fans attacked groups of the Turks before the game.

During the game the Russians burn the flag of Turkey and banner with portrait of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The Turks hacked official Spartak website and put the banner on it that says: There are no unpunishable people. UEFA and FIFA forget and forgive. We do not forget, do not forgive.

The Russians demand the official statement of safety for their fans travelling to Turkey next week.

Spartak is under probation after their fans behavour in Europe. They again dropped the flares on the pitch on Tuesday.

Very likely they will be kicked out of the CL games or will play the games on the empty stadium.

    Spartak website still bloced.
