Commons phenomenal contribution

737

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

  1. Lastnight’s performance was great. Thought we sat comfortably on the lead. Turned up the gas when needed to and it could easily have been 4-0 or 5-0 by the end.

100% certain of CL participation, and it’ll be interesting to see if Lenny brings in 1 or 2 new faces. I’m not entirely sure that he will TBH, and I think that the players who have got us there should be given the opportunity. Also, if Tony Watt progresses and improves this year, we may not need to spend £5million on Rhodes.

    Good times all round.

Yup, hoops add 10 lbs as does a camera. That’s a stone and a half. Commons probably looks like a racing whippet in the flesh.

Here’s hoping! I’m resigned to him leaving anyway tbh, but we’ve already agreed to £6m? Can we reject the bid if a higher one comes in?

Anyhow, I’m hopeful Ki wont be foolish enough to leave for small clubs in a big league, join a bigger club in the league then fine, even an Everton or Aston Villa I’d understand, not QPR or Swansea though! Mind you, if they’re gonna cough up big bucks then it isnt such a major issue ;)

  4. Hi Paul,

It’s great to see Kris playing so well (a Larrsonesque goal in Helsingborgs), he’s always had the ability, did he have the stamina and application? Was the question. Well yes, he’s proven it.

Last time we were at the dizzy hieghts in Europe World class technique by Naka and World class keeping from the Holy Goalie kept us competitive.

Kris & Fraser class was there for all to see last evening.

The real bonus from last night’s result is the Scottish media can rest easy.

They were up to high doe yesterday over that Serbian boy arriving at Helsingborgs – apparently that ‘threw Celtic’s plans into disarray’ and had our ‘coaching staff scrambling around’ trying to find out something about the new striker ‘ahead of the must-win match’.

Given their continued support for all-things Celtic they will be delighted at last night’s result. Apparently the sports staff at the Daily Record are having a sponsored silence today.

Do you think Red Bull Salzburg would sell him and do you think he has what it takes to succeed in Europe as his spell with Salzburg wasn’t particularly successfull.

There are players out there who would not break the bank. Burak Yılmaz would have been a great aquisition but has just signed for Galatassary for €5m.

I keep telling my mrs. how so many people ignore the SW of Scotland. I used to love knockin’ about ther in the 70’s.

Is it right about the witch-burning monument?

Some time when we’re up there, I’ll do a nostalgic one and revisit.

Apart from the pub incident we had a brilliant day. It has lived long in the old memory.

    HH!

Was there in the 80’s for a couple of months but managed to escape .

  9. Well happy with the result last night, so well done Bhoys.

ANyone know why the two Hel players were fighting after oor handball? I think it was Gashi – who only got booked after his 6th foul – who wanted a red card shown and his teamate remonstrated with him.

Of course I could have got all that wrong!

    2 kegs for that place.

Bang went my 3 hour lunch break in the vogue……………pure ragin:O(

  12. Len Brennan 13:11 Mentioned on the previous post that there’s a runour going around that QPR are trying hijack the move.

    Hopefully start a bidding war!

    +++++++++++++

If we have already accepted a bid from Swansea ,any interest, from any other club will be unlikely to result in a larger offer .

We have set the price £6.25m? at which we will deal.

Interest from other clubs will only generate a bidding war on personal terms between those clubs (Swansea /QPR etc) and Ki’s agent.

It would then come down to which manager Ki wants to play for, which system Ki would prefer to play in and in which city he would like to live .

So if ( a big if) we have set the price at £6.25m with Swansea, I would be surprised / amazed if any club would offer any more.

As far as I’m aware the The Cross was to indicate where the market took place, but it’s been there since 16-something so it is certainly possibly an unsuspecting woman drew her last whilst attached to it with a wee heat at her feet!!
