You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.
Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.
There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

last night great result
we started brightly and they couldnt get to grips with our 4-5-1 system
after about 15/20 mins they dropped a striker into hole between def and midfield and got bedwin to come inside and we were under pressure for rest of half
our styrength is that we get full backs wide to stretch game and this causes oppo’s problems
our weakness is that when we lose the ball our f/backs are too wide to cover c/backs and this allows teams to create one on ones and inveriably chances
we also had 3 central midfielders who wanted to get on the ball and be positive and that helped us to control game early on
however after they changed we failed to drop one of our c/mid players into sitting player and that allowed them to have runners in channels between c/backs and f/backs
2nd half we let brown and ledley to be sitting forrest and sammi to support front players and commons to almost be in diamond position allowing him to either get forward or drop between m/field
this worked as they stopped getting in between c/backs and f/backs and most they had in 2nd half were long range efforts
good switch by manager at h/time but maybe could have done it midway through 1st half but dont think we were lucky we took 2 of 6 chances we had they had 3 good chances , keeper saved two and mathews recovered for other
lets finish job hh
Mark Hately says bedoya being inconsolable is like a new signing
Great win in Sweden, only 90 minutes away from the Champions League draw. Can’t wait for the return leg next week.
By the way, those of you that have been reading that story of the Australia Celtic supporter that saw the team play in three countries in seven days, the final instalment went up today… take a look, decent article.

wycombebhoy – Kris does remind me of Dennis the Menace.
James Forrest is Billy Whizz.
Fraser Forster is Desperate Dan.
(thumbsup)
Great result last night with some standout performances, but we should take nothing for granted. Let’s do a professional job on them next Wednesday and see this through. It would have been fantastic if Sammy , Mulgrew, Ledley or Forrest had have put away one of those chances to leave no doubt about our qualification for the Group stages. The fact however, that I had a fiver on Celtic winning the game 2-0 on Betfair at 16-1, eased that wee disappointment somewhat :-)

Yup, hoops add 10 lbs as does a camera. That’s a stone and a half. Commons probably looks like a racing whippet in the flesh.

I had the pleasure of seeing both kris and hoops at Marr Hall golf course end of last season they were both looking like a couple of whippets..as you say some difference meeting them in person..dont believe the msm bulls++t ! HH
well done to Lenny and all the team on another great away result in the Champions League!
Are away wins in Europe the new black?
Joe Ledley and Beram Kayal will undergo scans on Wednesday after sustaining injuries in Celtic’s victory over Helsingborg.
Kayal, who was substituted at half-time in the 2-0 Champions League play-off round win, took a knock to his ankle during the first half.
Ledley meanwhile has a groin injury and manager Neil Lennon will nervously await the result of the scans and the results from lifting Joes balls just a half inch, ahead of the weekend trip to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Central defender Thomas Rogne also sustained an ankle injury during the game and will be monitored when the squad return to training at Lennoxtown on Thursday.
Were broad brimmers the old black? (thumbsup)
Groundshare Agreement with Celtic
Wednesday 22nd August at 12:01
There’ll be extra thrills at Firhill this season as some top European talent comes calling.
We’ve struck a deal with Celtic which will see their under-20s side play their reserve games here plus their home matches in the UEFA NextGen Series – which will see up and coming talent from Sporting Lisbon, Aston Villa and PSV Eindhoven strut their stuff on our hallowed turf.
Partick Thistle General Manager Ian Maxwell explains why the club agreed to groundshare with the young Hoops.
He said: “With the Glasgow Warriors leaving us at the end of last season it was important we tried to replace the revenue we’d lost from their departure. A ground share agreement was always an option, but we had to make sure it worked for us.
“The stadium is our biggest asset and it makes sense to maximise any income from it so when Celtic expressed an interest in holding games here it made sense to look at it.
“The deal we have agreed will see Celtic play a mixture of SPL U20 League and their NextGen Series games here at Firhill.
“It is structured in such a way that a split of the receipts from games at Firhill will stay with PTFC.
“With Celtic up against the likes of Sporting Lisbon, Aston Villa and PSV Eindhoven in the NextGen competition it means PTFC fans can not only get to see some of European footballs stars of the future in action they will also be helping the club.”
The Hoops first match in the NextGen Series will be against Sporting Lisbon at Firhill on Thursday September 6th with a 7.30pm kick off.

Welcome!
Have you got a tin hat?!
HH!!
Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – I like Kayal a loater, but he’s turning out to be Mr Glass from Unbreakable.
Hopefully he has an extended injury-free period of good performances this season, and then we can sell him for a massive fee. (thumbsup)
With Kris Commons being in great form would you leave him out of the game v Inverness to give him a rest for next Wednesday(I know it’s early in the season) or do you play him so that it doesn’t break his momentum?
PJ
If yer lookin in,
we are off upto Sag Harbor today, then Montauk then home Sunday so doubt I’ll catch you this time………….(Tried to get a hold of you a few times on here but I guessed you were on vacation)
Anyhoo, next time I’ll let you buy me those pints you owe me!

LordLuvRocket – He doesn’t need a rest at this stage of the season. (thumbsup)
Get well soon to Kevin sheedy

I think he may be a long term injury another sick note.
Shame as the bhoys a player and we will not get a good fee based on his injury record so far.
I place him and Izzy in the same category. Wanted the quick move but it never happened,

If we want to win the game and that is debatable I think under the circumstances we would be prepared to take a draw then he is a must starter for me

Absolutely delighted with last night’s result as I thought that, after the first 20 minutes, we were going to get a good seeing-to. Thank god big Fraser was immense and had arguably his best game in the Hoops!
Paul, A lot of us have only a limited time to scan the blog and it would be an enormous help if, when you clicked the next button, it would direct you to the next blog page instead of to the top of the main article again!
Otherwise a great improvement!

Did Bellamy not suggest a couple of weeks back that he could end up at Celtic this season?

I think you’re referring to his tweet before he seen the black socks?
No truth in it apparently.
see the difference when we play in the hoops, we’re dead lucky :o)
Celtic Charity Fund gives Real boost to Concern
By: Newsroom Staff on 22 Aug, 2012 13:26
THE Celtic Family has, once again, displayed wonderful generosity in its support of those less fortunate, honouring the humble beginnings of our football club.
Celtic Charity Fund’s signed shirt auction, for leading humanitarian charity Concern Worldwide, closed at 8pm last night (Tuesday, August 21) and the total raised was a magnificent £5,273.
Demonstrating the charitable roots of the club, the Celtic squad for the 2012 Herbalife World Football Challenge against Real Madrid on August 11, wore Hoops shirts incorporating the logo of Concern.
For more than 40 years, Concern has been dedicated to reducing suffering and fighting hunger and poverty.
Today, with more than 3,200 staff of 50 nationalities, Concern operates in 25 of the world’s poorest countries, helping people to achieve major and long-lasting improvements in their lives.
The match was broadcast across the United States on ESPN, and throughout the UK and Ireland on ITV4.
People viewing the game live at home on ITV4 and in attendance on the day were also given the opportunity to donate to Concern via SMS, with funds going directly to the charity.
Celtic Football Club, Celtic Charity Fund and Concern Worldwide would like to thank every single individual who played their part. Your support will help change lives.
Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – I think he may be a long term injury another sick note.
Yup. I fear the worst.
He’s a quality player and it’s a mystery to me why some players seem to be so cursed with injuries.
I hope he’s just had a run of bad luck that will clear up soon. But we’ve been here before with talented players who spend too much time in the treatment room…
(thumbsup)
I don’t think he needs a rest either was just looking for others views. I think as the season goes on then we will have a great opportunity to rest players as we play in the league and in Europe. I also expect to see more of our younger players feature in the league this season, great experience for them.
To be fair to Kayal, all of his injuries have been impact ones, not a lot he can do.
Everyone wants to kick him off the park – though he gives a bit back ;)
HH
Hope Lenny asks who has niggels they’d rather rest till the return game, theres a few I think
Philvis
Lack of protection and the clubs acceptance of it.
This is why guys like Ki arguably the best footballer we have had since Naka imho is not the first name on the team sheet is a worry. Not only for Ki but us spectators also
But we play in an environment where Kris Commons cannot get a cap and Black can.

With Kris Commons being in great form would you leave him out of the game v Inverness to give him a rest for next Wednesday(I know it’s early in the season) or do you play him so that it doesn’t break his momentum?
======================================
If he is fit play him for at least an hour. He is a layer who needs games to keep fit.
Is Kayal injured? What about Ledley?
Joe Ledley and Beram Kayal will
undergo scans on Wednesday after sustaining injuries in Celtic’s victory over Helsingborg.
Kayal may need to address his style of play with regard to his injury record. It is great to see him flying in but he maybe needs to tone it down. He often seems to me to be over stretching to try and win the ball. This makes you vulnerable to bad tackles and muscle tears.
Brown has done this in my opinion. He seems to have learned that you don’t always need to make the tackle. More often than not the pressure on the player is enough.
Celtic and Partick Thistle have struck an agreement for Celtic’s U20 side and the next generation series games to be played at Firhill.
Good to see two Glasgow clubs behaving amicably towards one and other for the good of the game.
Nice to see Celtic help their neighbours through financial hard times.
This Armageddon malarky is such fun.
Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – But we play in an environment where Kris Commons cannot get a cap and Black can.
You know, I honestly don’t care about the Scotland team anymore. Years ago I never missed a Scotland game, but I couldn’t even tell you who or where they played last.
No harm to them, but if they were playing in my front garden, I’d unleash the hounds. (thumbsup)
awe naw
if kayal is injured(again)
we`ll need to get someone in
Brown`s injury record can be poor and with Ledley also potentially out we don`t have enough cover
Celtic official facebook page mentions launch of new range of clothing(‘heritage’ range) to, shall we say, mixed reaction from the punters!
Still got a new 3rd kit to come. Can’t be any worse than the last one…can it…
HH
PFayr,
Vic and Paddy no bad cover IMO
VP
I know where Alphonsus is…..it’s at the top of my legsus!
Commons looks to be back on form but Samaras has also contributed immensely. A goal and a great assist last night and could have had more. He’ll always frustrate but he’s a top player on his game. He’s also finally being played in his best position as a wide forward on the left rather than as part of a traditional top 2 which seems to have lifted his game.
PfAyr
With Dylan injured and Ibrahim still contracted … Vic and Paddy and the twins and Charlies flexibility I dont expect to see any more midfield players
If we buy another mid fielder before a centre back I think I will have a stroke
