Commons phenomenal contribution

737

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

I agree with your sentiment but I prefer the elastic band around the testes approach.

If left to fester is stinks something we are always very guilty off

  2. Commons is our most valuable player on the pitch, big FF looking a steal. The midfield worried me in the first half last night,no cohesion and nobody to put their foot on the ball and control the game, injuries could be a factor here. What’s happened to Izzy? A shadow of his former self, hopefully he can play his way through it and be the player he was.Sunderland to sign Steven Fletcher, the Conor Wickham rumour may develop….

Logitech’s new washable keyboard means no more crying over spilt milk (or coffee)

    22.08.2012

Following up on an innovative new idea designed copyrighted and presented to us by Paul Brennan of http://www.whysettle.co.uk/

Logitech’s new washable keyboard means no more crying over spilt milk (or coffee)

Let’s face it, as much as we rely on computers throughout our daily lives, we’re not all that careful around them and accidents – and spillages – do happen. Thank heaven for the new Logitech Washable Keyboard K310, though, as we can now simply wash away the liquid perils that threaten to damage our equipment.

“We’ve all experienced that moment of distraction – followed by panic – when a cup of coffee or a soda spills all over your keyboard,” said Sophie Le Guen, senior director of mice and keyboards at Logitech. “Because life and its messes will happen, regardless of how careful you are, Logitech designed the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 to look and function like new, even over time.”

This durable full-size PC keyboard can endure more than just a light dusting. Users can rinse the K310 in the sink or even submerge it (excluding the USB cable) in up to 28cm of water. Drainage holes on the back help it to dry out, while the keys are laser printed and UV coated so that they won’t fade in the wash. This extra protection also means that they are built to last for up to 5m keystrokes.

The familiar keyboard layout comes complete with F-keys and a number pad, plus 12 hot keys for instant access to most-used applications. No software set-up is required, users simply plug in and type.

The K310 is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and is expected to be available in Europe from October 2012 at a suggested retail price of €39.99.

  4. Rogne also picked up knock , easily must be 1 in every 3/4 games he picks up some sort of injury.

Same with kayal.. Hopefully these players are at top of there fitness and it’s not poor fitness work that means they keep picking up stupid injuries.

I’d rest hooper this weekend, Give forest and watt a full 90mins and allow Ledley a rest. Until we get new faces in we have to protect players for Europe and allow fringe players to give the spl good go. Bring paddy on for kris or sammi for good 35/40mins

  5. Still over the moon about last night’s result, just can’t get the smile off my wee face today.

However, a big concern for me was the performance of Gary Hooper. Now I’ve been a fan of the bhoy since he came and in his first season maintained that he made Stokes look twice the player that he actually was. I was probably harsh as I still think that on his day Tony can score the type of goals that few others in our current squad can, his goal against Hibs on the first day of last season being an example.

What disturbs me most about GH is his lack of application and what appears to be an shockingly poor attitude at times. I found myself screaming at the TV last night on several occasions because of his reluctance to chase down defenders, press the ball high up the pitch and his lack of movement off the ball.

Now I’m fully aware that the loan striker role is a thankless task but surely he must have been given instructions to run his legs off and if required then he could be replaced after 65-75 minutes. Despite this his movement and work rate only improved towards the end of the game, unsurprising given his performance leading up to that point.

I’m not being overly critical, I still rate him as a player and a goalscorer, I’m just really concerned and frustrated about his poor work rate and attitude ahead of what is hopefully going to be a really exciting few months.

  6. Paul is right Kris Commons was class last night, he is playing like a player who knows he has to do something big this season and is dedicating himself to his game. Samaras is another who I would put in that category.

While I dont wish to take any polish off what was a fantastic result, was anyone else worried to death about what happened in between both goals?

  7. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

    ht

    Spot on!

A few posters reported the same thing during the game last night.

I’d give Tony Watt a run on Saturday and why not?

It’s about time some of our big name stars were made aware there is competition for places. Their places!!

It might be the wee reminder they need to make them up their game.

  8. That’s good old HelsingborgsIF out the way for a week and it’s now on to Inverness.

BUT to ease your psyche as it makes it’s transition from a good old alcohol free Swedish diet of fishy chicken and sparkling water, and prepare you for a bottle of Buckie and a venison burger, here’s the first couple of ‘where am I’ for today.

Both in Glasgow centre, the first one is a walk in the park – although it’s not in a park.

The second one is ugly and pointless (that’s not an expert opinion) I just see little attraction in it, but where did I snap the waste of a plinth?

    Across the city centre

I’ll have the final one for the week coming up shortly!

    Hail hail

    Estadio

  9. I believe that Kris Commons is a confidence player.

Against Ross County, he started well, but after he missed the chance from Sammi’s knock down, his head dropped.

It rose again after Watt came on and he moved over.

Last night, he got the best possible start and never looked back.

I expect a bit of squad rotation against Caley, assuming we have enough fit players.

One benefit of not having an assisted hun in the pack is that there is less pressure on winning every game.

We can afford a more pragmatic approach to fixtures, which gives an opportunity to blood the emerging talents.

Everything now depends on next Wednesday, so any malcontents or whingers are not welcome.

Total positivity until we land in the CL group stage, then whine away, lads.

Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – When you fire up the old modem to hack into mainframes, do you type furiously on the keyboard like they do in the films?

al this stuff sits on routers these days picking and formatting counting and collating.

It then sends you an sms while you are changing print toner cos nobody else is qualified to do it that you are being hacked by a 12 year old.

Now all this would not concern me to much as I work for the tax man on a freelance basis. Luckily at the moment he needs me more than I need him.

There is no Angelia Jolie but plenty of Angela Merklia´s

We have to use the ball a bit more wisely when in possession – less of the speculative, hopeful balls when theres little on…retain possession, go backwards and start again. We’re our own worst enemy at times – most of their chances and spells of pressure came from us giving the ball away cheaply- it doesn’t matter if it wasn’t in a dangerous area, any goal conceded can be traced back to an error somewhere. Losing the ball too easily can be the catalyst for sustained pressure.

I wouldn’t say I was worried to death but theres room for improvement- young side, will learn, hopefully.

  14. HT-agree, his touch hasn’t improved since he signed from a lower league team, his workrate and desire has dropped.Seemingly not happy at not getting a new contract……

  15. philvisreturns on

    Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – A “router” you say?

Is that like a fancy gateway?

And what is this print toner of which you speak? Mine uses a fancy bogroll paper that doesn’t need toner, but I had to buy the 8kb ROM pack to get it to work on my ZX80. (thumbsup)

  16. traditionalist88-agree re possession,we go back far too often, we need guys to be good on the ball in a busy midfield, with a lot more options for the guy with the ball.

  17. Philbhoy

He doesn’t seem to have been the same player since Boogie clattered into the back of him two seasons ago at Parkhead.

It took him a long time to get up and running properly last season, where often he displayed the same deficiencies that I’ve referred to above.

The thing is that he’s a proven goalscorer and we don’t have a plathora of the them at the club at the moment. However, it was noticeable that his performances improved greatly after he had a wee spell on the bench last season.

Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo – Ha! I imagine the taxman has long since migrated to new hardware, whizz-bang stuff like the Sinclair QL.

I liked the old dot matrix printers. They had a rickety charm to them you don’t get with these smooth, quiet, fast modern ones. (thumbsup)

Been saying that aboot Hoops for a few weeks noo

Aye, Maybe the Boogie thing….or the England call up that never materialised.

Alas, players are very fragile and need their ego’s massaged and confidence constantly built up. Oh give me a McGrain, Aitken, Doyle and Burns anytime.

BTW, I’m getting a wee bit concerned aboot Izzy, and that wee move that sees him turn inside when he can’t get himself or the ba’ past the opposing player……..It’s gonnae cost us wan o’ these days.

  25. And finally until after the weekend jolly to Culloden, what about this series of pics all taken within about 200 yards of each other. I’ve given them the titles Old, New, Fictional and Mystery.

The last one is a simple stone which appears to be adorned with one eye and a huge tear – a tear that gathers the rain in it’s hollow. It is inscribed as follows

    “Anglacham 1911

    D D”

Now I don’t think the DD means Dermot Desmond, but although I can find people who are called Angla Cham and Angela Cham, I haven’t yet sussed the origin or significance of the stone. If anyone has any info, I would really appreciate it. I’ll check back later or you can stick it in the comments section attached to the pictures.

1911 was of course a huge year in Glasgow’s socialist history and the location of the ‘where am I’ played a significant role in that era, so I’m going to have a wee poke around that area next.

    Old, New, fictional and mysterious

Off now….afternoon lounge on the recliner calls.
