Commons phenomenal contribution

737

You will remember times, not so long ago, when a successful Celtic team went 15 months without keeping a clean sheet away from home in any competition, even against lower league opposition. Already this season we have achieved what until recently was regarded as beyond the club, won two games away from home without conceding.

Helsingborgs are not of the calibre of opponents Celtic can anticipate facing in the group stages of the Champions League (assuming no bizarre reversals), but they disposed of the Polish champions 6-1 on aggregate in the previous qualifying round and are as resourceful as Aalborg or Utrecht.

There was plenty to be pleased with in last night’s but the most striking element was the performance of Kris Commons. He scored goal and was credited with an assist, has scored both our league goals this season and had a further assist against Helsinki; an incredible return for a player who three weeks ago was drawing comment on the size of his shorts!

I’ve long questioned Izzy’s defensive capabilities, even from his first season.

He has great pace and tremendous strength but positionally he was always suspect and at the moment that doesn’t seem to have improved.

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t be running out to sell him, I’m just extremely doubtful that full back is his best position.

Have you been at the glue? What makes you so certian there are “No” Tims in Moniaive and only one in Thornhill? You could be right about Thornhill as it is an orange den, but way off the mark in regards to Moniaive. Where have you gained such expertise in South West Scotland’s footballing demographics?

  4. but if you think about it for a momemt this will not upset you. why? I’d rather none of our players were getting taken away for internationals, particularly pointless injury gauntlet friendlies.

  8. Just watched Frankel,I think that’s the best horse I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched plenty.I hope he goes for the Arc.

My only problem with Frankel is it’s never worth betting.

  9. Thailand in morning.. Inverness game on Saturday ? I should be in koh samui by then..anyone any idea where I can watch the game ?

Think I’ll be at koh phangyang on Tuesday so not sure of any where there will show Helsingborgs game. Fingers crossed

God bless the famous Glasgow Celtic

Totally agree with your assessment of Hoops, there is no work rate there and he always makes out its someone else’s fault?

I hope he bucks up very soon. I would be looking at Rhodes as a replacement, I’m sure we can afford him now. And an experienced CB off course.

Saw your post from last night and while I agree that at times the vitriol on here can be distasteful to say the least, CQN is light years away from being in the same blogosphere as FF.

I’ve been guilty of having a go at posters but it’s always been when they’ve been persistently negative and often hostile to anything related to CFC.

Anyway, I hope you’re well ya auld tart :-)

This fecking blog and the trools who are on it don’t deserve Glasgow Celtic.

Paul67 the crap that gets wrote about Celtic on here is a disgrace. All under your name aswell. Do the descent think and close this shit down.

If this crap was getting written in the papers or on a hun site would you be happy ?

F91 Dudelange are about 7 miles from me right now – champions of Luxembourg. They were knocked out of the Champions League by an Austrian side a couple of weeks ago, but actually managed to win the first leg.

Could be, but in my eyes, and I know in the eyes of the bookies, as the other team scored nil, the first goal is enough to win the game.

  20. Gary Hooper – he does have a natural eye for goal but……

I feel his overall work rate is sometimes lacking. Also, since he’s arrived does anyone actually think he has improved and progressed as a player???

We’ve seen Mulgrew, Matthews, Ledley, Wanyama, Forster etc all mature and progress as players but Hooper I can only see small improvements

Then again, he doesn’t usually hit good form until October time so we’ll give him to then!

  21. Awe_naw: Wilson never started. Loyou said previously “for a reason”. Lenny said that reason was shin splints, he’s ok, but they were husbanding their resources when it comes to Wilson. Looked good coming on Fresh – why did yoiu make that into a criticism yesterday? That’s good management isn’t it?

You, and others, have asked time and again why we can’t find CBsN iKve postedd the answer time and again – its the way we play. The full backshave been told to get up the wings and put crosses in, this leaves CBs exposed. We have struggled at CB since MON right? Well MON had 3 CBs, giving enough cover for the wingbacks pushing up.

WGS and Lennie prefer 2 CBs (main reason bobo was surplus to requirements). Now obviously we would prefer to upgrade all positions but what we need are lightning fast CBs, big enough to deal with the rigours of SPL drudgery. Those cost.

“And we lost Ki and a raft of others.” we didn’t lose him, we sold him for a profit.

We were always going to sell Ki – you knew that right? That is our stated business mnodel. You know that too, right?

“And its my duty to point that out.” FGS get over yourself.

“The press ganging tonight is uncalled for and hunnish” – I’ve heard it all now, defending Celtic on a Celtic website (after a great win) is hunnish? Seriously do you read your own posts before hitting send?
