Compper and our central defs, (G)Invincible

198

Leipzip central defender, Marvin Compper (32), us cup-tied for the Europa League but that is of little concern to Brendan Rodgers as he looks to reshape his team for the future. We are not buying for the Europa League, Celtic’s primary responsibility in each transfer window is to prepare for future Champions League qualifiers.

There is likely to be a bit of traffic in-and-out in central defence over the next couple of transfer windows. What Brendan needs before any activity gets underway is that he has sufficiently experience headcount in place to see him through to 1 September 2018.

We were in a very similar situation in June this year. Patrick Roberts was wanted back at the club, but there was never any certainty Manchester City would agree. That left James Forrest as the only right mid option – and James is not unfamiliar with an injury lay-off. As a consequence, we recruited Jonny Hayes early in the window, to increase our options at right mid from one to two.

There’s a good chance we are going to be shopping for a central defender in the summer, but we will be reluctant to sell any of the three seniors in the squad without an experienced addition.

Compper fits the bill. He is at the stage of his career where a former German international (albeit with limited experience of the NT) would consider a move to Scotland. He is three years younger than Kolo Toure when he joined, so we can hope for a bit more from him. It will be interesting to see what he is like on the deck.

  1. Corkcelt.

    Another daft wee story.

I want to watch my son play in Montrose a few years back in Dec

I was really surprised a nice wee stadium (cold) with an astrograss pitch. The town itself was lovely. I don’t know what I was expecting but in Dec places beside the North Sea can be really bleak. Montrose certainly wasn’t.

Anyway hopefully by the time I’ve typed this the buoys will have scored a late winner.

    Hail Hail

  2. A lot of debate on the effect that losing our Invincibility Cloak will have on our performance tomorrow night. But the same could be argued about Partick. Had we avoided defeat on Sunday, Partick, just like all the other teams would then have taken their turn at trying to end the unbeaten run. Their manager can’t now use that incentive.

Don’t think we will batter them tomorrow but I do think we will win by 2 or 3 goals.

And I for one can’t wait to be there.

  3. CORKCELT-7:35pm I don’t know Kevj from Adam,and I don’t think he is a supporter,not anymore at least,and although Groundhog Day everyday,it’s thought provoking.some of it anyway:-))

  4. Dev Bhoys scoreless draw, First points dropped this season.

I absolutely knew all this talk about Ralston & Aitchison was rubbish.

Whole Development idea a load of rubbish as well, sack McIntyre, disband the bunch of wasters, we are doomed, doomed I tell ye.

  5. MARSPAPA-no sure wee b could make it to the corner then up to 416:-))),but if you need a lift in mate we leave at 6 on the flipping dot:-)))

  6. EC67

GLad you are back and I agree with you about Stuart Armstrong, despite a dodgy song his hair and urbane manner are deserving of utmost respect. I loved his utter contempt for the Jambo Huns who thought they had riled him on Sunday.

Manchester is in full swing tonight as party season starts in the trendy NQ, I have no idea why I am allowed entry, perhaps they see me as an ecccentric old nutter? I hope to be home tomorrow night to at least be near Celtic Park by kick off time tomorrow , all depends on the arrival of clients from Dublin. Anyway, that does not concern anyone but myself.

Please ignore the dim witted stuff from Paul Lambert, a great footballer but a very poor speller and even less talented public speaker. He’s just keeping himself in the frame for the Scotland job, we’ve all behaved badly as unemployed people.

    Perhaps it was just me?

Tomorrow night will be very interesting however I expect a home win, 2-0 will do for me.

Saturday will be a cracker, I have been so absorbed in family stuff that I just realised yesterday that the match is a sell out, very unusual for Celtic Park pre Xmas. I will have to get on the scrounge for a ticket.

Kind of thinking a pre match pub with El Clasico then a few beers and taxi to Paradise, sounds like a plan. HH

  7. Not to me Fairhill,

Everyone goes on here about Poster’s entitlements, however I believe with every entitlement in life you also have a responsibility.

Personally I believe Kev is showing no responsibility but is in fact abusing the Blog, I have told him so, he took exception and now we more or less ignore each other and that’s fine by me.

  8. Just sussed why they allow me in this trendy place. I help them meet the diversity target, bald and a Scot ( 2 for 1 deal there) also I pay cash. This allows the staff to brush up on their mental arithmetic.

By God, they need more than a brush up on that skill.

  9. Glad that the books have arrived safely guys.

I was with Pat Woods today and he was praising Jim’s book in the highest possible terms. As Celtic’s main historian he noted that Right Back to 67 is the first time ever that a former Celtic player has written his own book without any assistance from journalists or professional authors.

We still have signed copies available and you also get a copy of That Season in Paradise which is signed by Willie Wallace ( only half a box left so while stocks last). Orders tonight and tomorrow will be posted first class so will be there before the weekend.

Just order Right Back to 67 at http://www.cqnbookstore.co.uk and you will get both signed books.

  10. This was discussed earlier, but I wanted to comment.

    Lafferty a womaniser?

In the same way Peter Crouch is?

He once was asked what he would be if not a professional footballer.

    “A virgin” was his reply.

That might apply to Kyle also.

  11. TREBLE WINNING CAPTAINS

THAT SEASON IN PARADISE is a wonderful read.

Loads of happy memories and tears too as I was at a lot of those games with my Dad.

    Many thanks!

  12. CORKCELT-people abusing the blog is an everyday thing,I find it hard to pick out the abusers sometimes

    Wasting your typing.

    Usual suspects.

My take is everyone to themselves in their belief.

I dont take my ticket to the game but wouldnt stop anyone goin.

Personally …guys I know dont go because they dont have a season ticket.

But I am sure there are ST holders who refuse to go.

Regarding the main stand, how much would it cost to refurbish it,

    —————————————————————————————————

    Not much

  15. MARSPAPA-no problem pal,but it’s military precision,into game and back home,no pubs allowed unfortunately:-))))

  16. TREBLE WINNING CAPTAINS

A while back you had damning evidence that would bring the whole pack of cards down round the shambles of our game …..is that now dead in the water or is it a going concern ?

Maybe its been dealt with ,sorry , if this has been disscussed before .

    Laurie fae Dennistoun- frustrated hack.

    ==============

I laughed at that because I was thinking exactly the same at one of his phrases – cannot remember which – but it reminded of hack speak. I wonder how he orders his fish supper?

” May I intrude in your chip frying endeavours my good man, to ask if you could prepare a fish for a special fish supper that my good lady and I may partake thereof, after the last melodies from Coronation Street have faded down our lobby?”

    He is eloquent though.

  20. Goooood Evening CQN

Couple of points tonight, apart from FtSFA

Lambert, he played for Celtic, not a Celtic mhan though.

Discussion on our Centre Halfs, look at Celticbynumbers stats, Simonuvic gets slaughtered for injuries and missing games ? Interestingly he has played in more of our 69 invincible run than Boyata has, for me he is a better option if we can keep fit ??

Perhaps not my place but I think the guys thought they had a damning case but the source was not prepared to go to the extent of proving it/going public.

I can sympathise because the one fear I have on Res12 is that something unforeseen will turn up to change the narrative.

The longer is takes for that something to turn up the more certain I think it does not exist.

suggest it is Alistair Johnson who knows where all the RFC financial bodies are buried who is the bank of latest resort.

It shows jus how far Johnson is prepared to go to keep TRFC alive have done his bit in April 2011 to keep RFC alive with UEFA money. Here is what he said in the Interim accounts.

” The exceptional item reflects a provision for a POTENTIAL tax liability in relation to a Discounted Option Scheme associated with player contributions between 1999 and 2003. DISCUSSIOIS are continuing with HMRC to establish a resolution to the assessments raised.
