Compper and our central defs, (G)Invincible

198

Leipzip central defender, Marvin Compper (32), us cup-tied for the Europa League but that is of little concern to Brendan Rodgers as he looks to reshape his team for the future. We are not buying for the Europa League, Celtic’s primary responsibility in each transfer window is to prepare for future Champions League qualifiers.

There is likely to be a bit of traffic in-and-out in central defence over the next couple of transfer windows. What Brendan needs before any activity gets underway is that he has sufficiently experience headcount in place to see him through to 1 September 2018.

We were in a very similar situation in June this year. Patrick Roberts was wanted back at the club, but there was never any certainty Manchester City would agree. That left James Forrest as the only right mid option – and James is not unfamiliar with an injury lay-off. As a consequence, we recruited Jonny Hayes early in the window, to increase our options at right mid from one to two.

There’s a good chance we are going to be shopping for a central defender in the summer, but we will be reluctant to sell any of the three seniors in the squad without an experienced addition.

Compper fits the bill. He is at the stage of his career where a former German international (albeit with limited experience of the NT) would consider a move to Scotland. He is three years younger than Kolo Toure when he joined, so we can hope for a bit more from him. It will be interesting to see what he is like on the deck.

  2. Sorry about that incomplete post but here is the rest.

” The exceptional item reflects a provision for a POTENTIAL tax liability in relation to a Discounted Option Scheme associated with player contributions between 1999 and 2003. DISCUSSIOs ARE CONTINUING WITH HMRC TO ESTABLISH A RESOLUTION TO THE ASSESSMENT RAISED.”

This is what the SFA Comp Off is investigating as it does not align with witness testimony at the CW trial.

Johnsons statement is similar to the justification for granting the UEFA licence that Regan was going to issue in Dec 2011, but did not after a meeting with Ogilvie and Whyte in mid December.

    Regan wanted to say

It is noted from the report submitted to the Licensing Committee by Rangers FC’s advisors Grant Thornton UK LLP, dated 30th March 2011, (and then quoted the auditors report)

“All the recorded payroll taxes at 31 December 2010 have, according to the accounting records of the Club since that date been paid in full by 31 March 2011, with the exception of the continuing discussion between the Club and HM Revenue and Customs in relation to a potential liability of £2.8m associated with contributions between 1999 and 2003 into a discounted option scheme. These

amounts have been provided for in full within the interim financial statements.”

So Johnson, desperate to keep Rangers going could claim the auditors misled him, or the auditors could claim the reverse, or perhaps they colluded.

Regardless this was a fraudulent statement made in public by the then Chairman of RFC and now current Director (not sure if its TRFC or RIFC but does it matter?)

You can see why its taking the SFA Comp Off so long as Regan has defended the granting of the licence based on a statement that was not true and those responsible for it are still at large..

    TREBLE WINNING CAPTAINS

A while back you had damning evidence that would bring the whole pack of cards down round the shambles of our game …..is that now dead in the water or is it a going concern ?

Maybe its been dealt with ,sorry , if this has been disscussed before .

    ================

Perhaps not my place but I think the guys thought they had a damning case but the source was not prepared to go to the extent of proving it/going public.

I can sympathise because the one fear I have on Res12 is that something unforeseen will turn up to change the narrative.

The longer is takes for that something to turn up the more certain I think it does not exist.

    On that theme: Phil at

suggest it is Alistair Johnson, who knows where all the RFC financial bodies are buried, who is now the bank of latest resort.

It shows jus how far Johnson is prepared to go to keep TRFC alive have done his bit in April 2011 to keep RFC alive with UEFA money. Here is what he said in the Interim accounts.

Indeed, but had it existed by now I think it might have been used to jam the oven door :) .

The thing is how long are supporters going to let turkeys rule the roost and are clubs prepared to let them?

Should STs be sold next season with qualification?

We [insert club name] cannot guarantee that the rules and articles of the SFA and SPFL will be adhered to if it impacts on the commercial viability of one or the other or both . We promise best endeavours to protect sporting integrity, but as governance is currently constituted, we cannot guarantee rules will be applied without fear or favour.

Such an inclusion allows supporters to make an informed decision on what they are prepared to pay to watch.

  10. How many stolen trophies have been stripped ?

Who’ll still be alive when the 1st trophy is stripped ?

    Biggest pile a pish ever!

Crowd funded *statements* to claim that, Sevco / Rainjurs are different clubs, printed in hun newspapers, that are read wi, two guys and a dug, led to, back slapping jelly n ice cream street parties on here.

And then,…….Sevco / Rainjurs are back in the same league as Celtic.

And then, these same crowd funders, are queuing up to buy, £49 Old Firm tickets, which by their very nature, rubber stamp the lie that, Sevco / Rainjurs are the same club.

All of this was obscured by, the arrival of Brendan.

So, the question now is, are the PLC board *really* paying Brendan £45 k a week to, fudge the same club lie, so that, Celtic supporters will move on and, forgive 25 years of Murray Mibbery ?

Is Brendan no a squirrel efter awe……..is he a fudge ?

    Hmmmmm….?

Or, are the PLC paying Brendan £45 k a week, to skelp Scottish pub teams, so that, the PLC don’t need to deal wi the Sevco / Rainjurs same club lie ?

Are the PLC saying – “Its time to move on.”

And, are the Celtic supporters and their purchases of the £49 Old Firm Sevco / Rainjurs same club lie stamping tickets, doing the same ?

    Is it a case of,……..

  12. Club 1871 has put out some Q & As that arose at last AGM.

https://twitter.com/GrahamSpiers/status/943209048740126720 and this extract caught my eye

Q.7) The most recent financial results are encouraging but highlight the staggering gulf between us

and our nearest competition. Can this board please outline how they plan to deal with this

    substantial deficit going forward?

    A) The majority of the deficit is accounted for through qualification for the Champions League

group stages. Other income streams such as retail revenue and commercial income are

increasing however there needs to be a recognition of just how valuable qualification for

the group stages of the Champions League has now become. It is worth in the region of

30m Euros plus associated gate monies.

What it says is that CL qualification will fund the debt that will get them CL qualification!!!!!

Its back to 2011 when getting CL qualification was essential for survival and look at the impact that had on season 2010/2011.

Celtic really must raise this with fellow clubs and at very least insist on an independent audit of UEFA Licence applications and, if Scottish football wishes to avoid a repeat of the consequences of this insane TRFC policy (keep doing the same thing and expect a different result) the other clubs need to support Celtic in taking some steps to prevent the same outcome happening again.

According to an article by Phil, UEFA were not happy at the licence granted this year and only an early exit stopped it going further.

I suspect the same applied in 2011 but it suggests UEFA FFP is more akin to the Pirates Code – they be more guidelines than rules.
