Confidence and belief, only delivery to come

There will be little Ronny Deila doesn’t know about Molde. His confidence ahead of tonight’s game will be based on a genuine belief that Celtic are the better team, that the game plan is right for the occasion, and that his players are ready.

As a group, they need to perform to the mark they are capable of. Most importantly, they need to harvest the regret for the points and progress they’ve let slip away already during this season’s European campaign. A win, a good defensive performance, and if possible, a clean sheet, will go a long way towards setting up the second half of the season.

My expectation is that we’ll get it right.

Best wishes to Johan Cruyff, who let it be known today he is fighting lung cancer. He deserves to be mentioned alongside Pele and Maradona as one of the greatest players to have graced a football field. I spoke to Tommy Gemmell last year about the greats he’d played against. Eusebio was a phenomenon but Tommy was clear: he had nothing on Cruyff.

It’s 24 years since Johan stopped smoking but although quitting quickly brings mortality benefits, the experts tells us it takes 40 years of abstention before the likelihood of catching cancer reaches the same levels of non-smokers – a clear call to action, if you’re in need of one.

It follows a similar incident that occurred in November 2014 before a home clash against CSKA Moscow, with City fans believed to have been unhappy with UEFA after issuing the Russians just a paltry fine for racially abusing Yaya Toure in an earlier fixture.

Winning Captains….Good luck getting this problem sorted. Although I have moaned about the problem I was having, I do appreciate the work that goes in to developing and maintaining sites like this and the hassles that must have come from becoming such a popular site. The information about Celtic they provide either in the main Paul67 blog or the additional Celtic related news is brilliant.

Thanks to all for the help and advice.

    What’s that, a Pensioner?

  4. Forgive the cliché but he scores proper striker’s goals. Likes playing with his back to goal. Agree that he could work very well in a 2 with Griffiths if we needed to change it late in a game. We’ve taken our time, he’s obviously taken the time as well to work out what he wants. Had some offers in the championship, but it seems a good fit for both parties.

Re tonight, we need to make sure Izzy, and probably Efe, don’t get caught too high up the park. They like to get it forward quickly and get crosses into the box. Start with caution, a draw is not a bad result, this group is going to the wire.

  5. See our good friends at the DR suggesting Celtic have FINALLY agreed a deal with Carlton Cole signing for us. A good addition in my opinion and probably a relatively low cost one – but his type much needed.

Now if Eustace ever does sign for the Huns – a record exclusive in mid JUNE – yep, only four month ago, I imagine the same rag will breathlessly tell us of the coup and how Eustace had to finally convince the former City trader that he was worth a deal. The will be none of the negative notes attached to that deal which we routinely see when we ‘re involved.

Confident about tonight and think we could win this group outright.

Look every signing is a risk, this one is riskier then most. However like any player who pulls on the Hoops, Carlton Cole will have my full backing. A great name for a song if he starts scoring a few.

  11. Carlton has the much coveted number 24 shirt.

I think mcgeadys mob is the only team we have ever taken 6 of in a group…ever.

I’m a bit like you. I’m hoping we’ll take all the points rather than expecting us to. We can’t take Molde lightly. Their win in Istanbul and home draw against Ajax deserves great respect …….. BUT ……. We are the famous Glasgow Celtic :-))⚽️⚽️

  14. The time is coming when there will be more statues outside the ground than there will be supporters inside it.

  15. mullet and co 2 on

I’m wary of predicting a result tonight. I said 8 points would be a likely return from this group and a draw and then a win would give us only 1 point to get to reach that target.

It would be great if Ajax and Fenerbache draw tonight. That means 8 points total with a win in one of the games v molde would give a realistic chance to qualify. A draw or defeat for Fenerbache tonight would more or less rule them out.

4 points from Molde and go into the last two knowing a draw could be enough.

Does anyone remember that unknown 33 year old pensioner that Dr. Jo signed for Celtic? How did that turn out? Can anyone remind me?

What will Coles total wages cost be? 1.5m. Hope it’s a heavily incentivised contract he got.

  19. I see nothing less than a win tonight, a draw wouldent be the end of the world either, the only other result than that, will have this place crawling with the agenda mob, and Huns, pop up or not, nothing gets their trousers more soiled than a Celtic defeat, cmon the hoops.
