CONFIRMED: BARKAS ON BENCH, BAIN STARTS

1

NEIL LENNON decided not to throw in £4.5million new Bhoy Vasilis Barkas for the Premiership opener against Hamilton Accies at Parkhead this afternoon.

The Greek international, who just arrived from AEK Athens a few days ago, had to be content with a place among the nine players on the substitutes’ bench as Scott Bain got the nod to start.

The Hoops boss had Greg Taylor back from his weekend injury against Ross County to take his place in the left-back position while Scott Brown, who has matched club legend Billy McNeill’s record of captaining the side to nine successive crowns, will again lead out the players as they begin their quest for ten in a row.

James Forrest, the only player at the club who played in the first game of the phenomenal sequence against Hibs back in 2011, as CQN reported earlier today, was again in place on the right side of the midfield.

Lennon will be permitted to utilise five substitutes during the match for the first time in a competitive domestic encounter.

TEAM: Bain; Frimpong, Jullien, Ajer, Taylor; Brown, Christie; Forrest, McGregor, Elyounoussi; Edouard. Subs: Barkas, Bitton, Klimala, Soro, Rogic, Ntcham, Bolingoli, Elhamed, Dembele.
