CONFIRMED: CELTIC’S SUNDAY IBROX CUP DATE

0

CELTIC will play Rangers in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on Sunday March 8.

The intriguing last-16 encounter will kick off at 1pm and will be covered live by Premier Sport.

The Hoops can claim a ticket allocation of up to 20 per cent of the capacity of the ground, as per the competition’s rules, which will see the biggest away support at the venue since the Govan club cut the numbers in 2018.

MAKING A POINT…Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney have a touchline chat during Celtic’s 3-1 Premier Sports League Cup semi-final victory over their Ibrox opponents.

Martin O’Neill’s side are due to face Danny Rohl’s outfit at Ibrox in the Premiership a week earlier when the Glasgow rivals lock horns for the third time as they battle for precious points.

The first confrontation in Govan ended in a tame scoreless stalemate and the second at Parkhead on January 3 proved to be the farewell appearance of Wilfried Nancy as the champions saw a 1-0 interval lead evaporate into a 3-1 loss.

It was the Frenchman’s sixth reverse in eight games and he was sacked after 33 catastrophic days in charge.

O’Neill was in control of the team during his initial interim period when the teams clashed in the Premier Sports League Cup semi-final at Hampden in November.

Johnny Kenny thumped in a header to give the Hoops the lead, but that was nullified by a late controversial penalty-kick from James Tavernier.

THE CELTIC GLEE CLUB…James Forrest congratulates Callum McGregor on his strike for the Hoops’ second goal on their way to a 3-1 success at Hampden in November.

However, extra-time goals from Callum McGregor and Callum Osmand got the job done.

Now all eyes are on Ibrox on Sunday March 8 as the Hoops go for an action replay.
