FORMER Celtic keeper Michael McGovern has returned to the club in a coaching role.

The one-time shotstopper, who made 32 international appearances for Northern Ireland, joined the Hoops first time around in 2001 from Enniskillen Town.

McGovern, 41, never played a first-team game for the Parkhead club, but made several appearances in friendlies and Testimonials and had loan spells at Stranraer and St Johnstone.

In June 2008, he agreed a pre-contract with Dundee United where he was back-up to future Celt Lukasz Zaluska. A year later, he moved to Ross County.

McGovern also played for Falkirk and Hamilton and also spent seven years with Norwich City.

He had previously been goalkeeping coach at Queen‘s Park, but will now join Martin O’Neill‘s backroom team.

McGovern will work across the Celtic B team and the first team, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

Stevie Woods will remain the main goalkeeping coach with former Kilmarnock and Motherwell No.1 Colin Meldrum taking care of the development squad.
