CONFIRMED: HOOPS MOVE FOR DUFFY

1

SHANE DUFFY is on Neil Lennon’s wanted list, the Celtic boss has confirmed.

The Hoops gaffer has stepped up his efforts to sign the Republic of Ireland international as he seeks to strengthen his back four, as CQN reported last week.

Lennon is determined to replace Jozo Simunovic who left the champions in June at the end of his contract. At the moment, Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer are his only options with right-back Hatem Abd Elhamed and midfielder Nior Bitton on emergency stand-by.

The Irishman admitted the club had made an initial approach to sign 28-year-old Duffy on an initial season-long loan deal from Brighton.

The rock-solid centre-back, who is also attracting attention from West Ham and West Brom, made 19 Premier League appearances last season, but has fallen behind Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster, who are Graham Potter’s preferred pairing.

Brendan Rodgers wanted the boyhood Celtic fan in the summer of 2016 before he left Blackburn Rovers for the south coast outfit in a £4million switch.

Lennon is hoping for better luck and, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: “We have made tentative enquiries and we’ll see how that goes.”
