CONFIRMED: IT’S BOSS BROONY

CELTIC’S legendary skipper Scott Brown has been confirmed as new manager of Fleetwood Town.

The 36-year-old midfielder who won 22 honours – including 10 titles – during his 14 years at Parkhead was favourite for the role with the English League One club, as CQN reported yesterday.

A number of candidates were interviewed before it was decided Brown was “the outstanding candidate”.

Chairman Andy Pilley described the 55 times-capped Scotland international as “a born leader, a serial winner, and incredibly serious about becoming a successful manager”.

Brown, who left Aberdeen in March just nine months into a two-year contract where he was player-coach, insisted he wanted “to focus on his coaching development”.

The experienced campaigner left the Hoops at the completion of his contract last summer to join his friend and ex-Hibs team-mate Stephen Glass at Pittodrie. However, the rookie boss was sacked after the Dons were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Motherwell in February and, after the appointment of Jim Goodwin as his replacement, Brown was on his way a couple of weeks later.

He made the shortlist at St Mirren before they appointed former Motherwell chief Stephen Robinson and has also been linked with the vacancy at hometown Raith Rovers who are seeking a replacement for Falkirk-bound John McGlynn.

Brown, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: “I’ve always had a real desire to move into management and can’t wait to meet the players and staff and get started.

“The hard work starts now – I’m now looking forward to getting onto the grass.”
