CONFIRMED: RODGERS OUT, O’NEILL IN

CELTIC have confirmed the resignation of Brendan Rodgers and the manager will leave his post immediately.

Former boss Martin O’Neill will take charge of the team in an interim capacity and will be assisted by Shaun Maloney.

They will be in the dug-out for the Premiership game against Falkirk at Parkhead tomorrow night.

The bombshell news will rock the football world with Rodgers, in his second spell as Hoops gaffer, insisting recently he would NOT quit the champions while talks stalled on contract extension negotiations.

A statement from Celtic read: “The Club appreciates Brendan’s contribution to Celtic during his two very successful periods at the Club.

“Brendan leaves Celtic with our thanks for the role he has played during a period of continued success for the Club and we wish him further success in the future.

“The process to appoint a new permanent manager is underway and the Club will update supporters further on this as soon as possible.

“We are pleased that during this interim period former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill and former Celtic player Shaun Maloney have agreed to take charge of Celtic first-team matters.

“Further details will be confirmed shortly.”

Rodgers, who has won four titles spread over his two years as manager, saw his struggling side drope wight points behind pacesetters Hearts following a dismal 3-1 loss at Tynecastle on Sunday.

After the visit of John McGlynn’s side tomorrow night, the holders will turn their attention to the Premier Sports League Cup semi-final against Ibrox opposition at Hampden on Sunday afternoon.
