Consistency needed before talk of trebles

796

This is the last day to complete our survey into who we, the Celtic community, are, our thoughts, values and where we came from.  It’s a short, anonymous, survey, with questions on the Living Wage, the Offensive Behaviour Act, Resolution 12 and other topics, including your view on last week’s referendum.

Thousands of people have already taken part so we will have an excellent insight into what the Celtic community looks like in 2014.  If you’ve not already participated, you can let your voice be heard here.

A European academic has compiled the survey and we’ll publish findings shortly.

It’s refreshing to hear a manager be frank about a sporting forgone conclusion, as Ronny did yesterday, “we are definitely going to win the league”.  More importantly, he added “The goal is the treble”.

For reasons which have never been evident, apart from Jock Stein’s first five seasons, and a gloriously sunny day in 1957, Celtic have underachieved on a massive scale in the League Cup, a trophy we haven’t won in the last five seasons.

It’s maybe been seen as too much of a poor-relation when the team have higher targets in mind, but it’s more accurate to say we have been an ill-prepared soft touch since Jock’s five-in-a-row came to an end.  Superior performances in the Scottish Cup suggest there is more than the randomness of cup football at play in the League trophy.

I never understood the criticisms of Neil Lennon for his ‘failure’ to win the treble.  We achieved this feat only three times in our history.  Even when we won the league, the vast majority of times we failed to win both cups was as a result of defeat to someone other than Rangers, so their liquidation in 2012 should not affect the trend.

Ronny is three games away from his first trophy as a Celtic manager; he will be hot favourite for each of them.  On paper, the Scottish Cup will present no more danger, but winning two cups takes a level of consistency that even the great [and consistent]Celtic teams struggled to achieve.

Before we consider the treble we need to find consistency in the league and Europa League, starting with wins and clean sheets against St Mirren and Dinamo Zagreb.  If we can do this, this could yet be a memorable season.

Remember the survey closes tonight!

There’s a lot of nostalgia about from supporters of the newest club in the major leagues for a deceased club.

Its not just their shirts that are questionable, its their ground.

As anybody who has driven past in recent times can confirm their ground is in a state of disrepair. If Greyskull still has a UEFA 5 star accreditation then that is also a joke.

I suppose they may be able to make a few bob soon on Halloween tours.

  4. I find myself supporting USA in the Ryder Cup. Not sure why. Maybe too jingoistic from a UK standpoint? Extortionate prices (even the volunteers are having to pay £75 for the `privilege` of working there)? Could also, be , of course , because I have a small wager on Tom`s Boys!

I’ve long had a chip on my shoulder about Gleneagles and was once offered a round there, which I turned down out of foolish inverse snobbery.

With the benefit of Google you are correct, however they are now listed as “Elite” stadiums of which Greyskull is still listed.

Yes, really. Apparently it is to pay for the sponsor`s jacket volunteers are given. Living near-bye, I was a volunteer at Carnoustie for the Open (Padraig`s Year). We were given jackets and vouchers (food or golf equipment) in exchange for our participation and, obviously , free entry to the Competition.

Also, I believe the Ryder Cup tickets are more than double the price of The Open tickets. Still sold out , though.

Given time the “stadium” part may need changed, except the previous view of it becoming a Tesco may fall by the wayside in light of said company’s financial jiggery-pokery. Instead it may be an Elite Crack Den.

  17. I believe Ronny will turn out to be the real deal (RD) but, for the moment, I go into every game uncertain about the result. Tomorrow, for instance, we could concede an early goal then struggle. On the other hand, we could win by half a dozen. Uncertainty is a major part of being a football supporter. I think most of us are fairly certain that we will win the League but we are less certain about victories against Aberdeen and Dundee Utd, for example. That is the way it should be. Perhaps The Greatest League in the World is not quite as exciting as the MSSM were so desperately claiming and perhaps the Top League is not such a Borefest as they were also claiming.

That would do nicely with a Scepovic hat-trick to get his confidence up and for Guidetti to score the other two.

It will be a year come the 5th October since our friend, fellow blogger, Father and Partner of Linda left us.

St. John Doyle (George Ryan) loved the Celtic and CQN. He was an individual who stood up for what he believed in and did a lot (understatement) for Celtic Supporters as well as those he represented in the Community and Residents of Glasgow.

CQN rallied when the call was put out in the days after George’s untimely death. You all helped get the Family to the Ajax game, a lovely floral tribute and most importantly contribute financially to Sean’s Trust. It showed just what the CQN Family (Lurkers and Bloggers) are made of.

I have kept in touch with Linda and helped/supported Sean’s Trust when I could. However, I have to confess I could and should have done more. It has been a hard year for Linda and the Family. Not helped by some abuse she suffered through social media including comments about George from so called Friends and Celtic Supporters. I do not and will not give any more detail on this but will say every individual has the right to stand up for what they believe in without being berated.

I would urge each and every one of you to support the night at the People’s Palace if you can:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/saoirsefanclub/status/514473542818492416/photo/1

You will find Sean’s Trust on FB, Twitter and Linda is on my Friends list on FB.

Most of all let us remember St. John Doyle (George Ryan) the Bhoy who led a good life whilst amongst us, who stood up for what he believed in. A Mhan who stood up for the Celtic Family. Let us cherish his memory and the things he did for us. Let us not sully his memory and continue to support Sean’s Trust.

    God Bless St. John Doyle…

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

I would definitely like that but Scepovic does not strike me as a confidence lacking individual. Just the opposite in fact. Guidetti, as I suggested the other day, seems to be one with whom we can sense a bond.

OK, that will do for now, I want to watch a wee bit more golf. Usa! Usa! 0:-)

  24. My friends in Celtic,

Golf can be fun, both participating and watching. Although the big vote on September 18th was to allow females to darken the door of the R&A I still think the acronym for Golf is still applicable.

The show has had great reviews, very funny, and on topics which many of us will relate to.

I won’t be there, back to SWINDON the week before, but I will be contributing regardless.

I remember meeting George for the one and only time about a year ago. Special fella. Turned out him and my Dad knew each other from way back but the moniker confused the old git-my Dad,that is!

    A smashing fella,smashing cause,smashing show and support.

    Nice wee night,I reckon.
