Any management team has only so much bandwidth. You see the effect of this in organisations when the pressure is applied. Urgent matters, the ones that come screaming into your inbox, or literally banging on your door, tend to take your focus.
Strategically important issues seldom do this. They can sit in the outfield for a long time, so much so, they blend into the background and you stop noticing them. Then something big happens and bang, you have an urgent matter which you could have dealt with months earlier.
Yesterday’s Scottish news saw an example of this. At an inquiry into deaths at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, a manager admitted he “dropped the ball” in not reacting to a report issued years earlier. An unusual admission of laxity.
Football clubs also a million things metaphorically banging on their door; there is always a crisis and always things which are not really today’s priorities that look like priorities. That’s why the little things, like submitting a planning request to Glasow City Council to make stadium changes to accommodate away fans can slip through the net.
The signs are that Newco management’s bandwidth is more constricted than most. They are making very visible mistakes. Unlike the hospital manager, their appetite for taking responsibility isn’t great. Results will soon out them.

Even if I’m wrong about SC the offer stands. It’s bloody awful on here and I think we both should appreciate the effect we are having on the atmosphere
Really out now
CELTIC40ME @ 8:17 PM,
You certainly do confuse me with some of your comments that’s for sure, this one definitely falls into that bracket.
I was a happy clapper on here until about ten years ago… things changed around the time Lenny Mk1 left.
I’ll certainly be continuing to make my comments – all being well.
There were literally dozens and dozens of posters on here who made my stance look very tame indeed – most are long gone.
So goodness knows how you would have handled a Neganon, A BMCUWPS, an Awe Naw, a MiT and well you a Mags McGill would be a match made in…
…well don’t think Dante ever got that far:))
Still, if you feel you are upsetting me then you are not; despite my comments I’m incredibly resilient and thick skinned.
And in all seriousness I wish you nothing but the best…
Hail Hail
O’Riley away
Best wishes MOR. Smash it
!!BADA BING!! @ 8:31 PM,
Och well, sad day…
Wish the lad nothing but the best…
Is it Brighton & HA!?
Hail Hail

Maybe that was a bottleneck…
Hopefully the priorities will be identified now and we can get some signingscfinalised
Hail Hail
Best wishes Matt.
Really disappointed Matt is leaving – good luck and thanks for the memories.
What is needed right now is for Neil Doncaster to take the 2 Old Firm clubs to an emergency summit and kick both of these glib clubs lying devious arses good and hard.
Redistribute 8,000 tickets for each clubs away fans, OR, the SPL are going to grow a pair and make you play the 4 Old Firm league games behind closed doors!
As for the financial costs to each club – TOUGH!
Get It Right Up The Pair of you Glib Lying Bassas.
Grow the fck up and get it sorted.
Signed Mr Doncaster secretaries etc.
I really thought he’d be here till January.
Very best of luck Matt! Here’s hoping your best football is in front of you!
T
evening all
Watched the full BR presser.
Brendan came across fairly exasperated by the whole transfer window as many of the support are. Talk about abandoning the look for a third striker in order to look at more pressing needs given the time left were quite damning imo.
An dun
Spare a thought for the Chelsea manager – he needs to move 20 players on in a week
Hell mend them
Bye Matt,you were a pleasure.
Right,now get,Bogusz,wan of the other two,midfielder,Swiss boy well thought of,Trusty,left footed,CH.For starters.Who knows,we could end up better.
Chelsea,BR has good connections there.
Timing is everything they say.
Five hours ago Rodgers was talking about the squad and possible transfers, and the same evening our most creative player is sold.

my original comment which was about a specific type of Celtic internet poster (and certainly not like your good self) making excuses and managing expectations.
I think it’s verging on paranoia to suspect that the Celtic Board posts on social media sites or bribes posters to do so. It’s not that important and it’s a real waste of money- out of character with their portrayal as penny pinching biscuit tin lockers. And it is also deeply ineffective- look at Twitter and all the major social media sites, I’d guesstimate that over 80% of the active fan participants, are stating some form of the Board vs Brendan, Ambition vs Penny-Pinching, Bored of domestic dominance- I want Europe, narratives. My view and those of a few other eejit hold-outs on CQN is very much in the unpopular minority. I’d have an easier life online if I just went with the flow and said- it’s all Lawwell’s fault. So, whether it’s me or other unnamed excuse purveyors or expectation management blaggers, it’s still a projection from you not a description of them. That way reasons become excuses but expectations just become paranoiac.
Yet some things were very clear, the anomaly that the Board Strategy is to bring in players needing development, but don’t bring the players in, in a timely manner to allow the coaches that development time.
Not sure it’s very clear if you have to interpret it. If Brendan had used such an active expression, I’d believe him. If you are communicating honestly and in simple declarative sentences there is no room to have your meaning twisted. Brendan can, if he wishes, say quite clearly- “I’m being screwed here- all my plans are being subverted by deliberate sabotage and/or incompetence by Board, CEO and Scouts”. But he doesn’t do that. He makes a comment about too many wingers or a similar
side-of-mouth utterance that needs re-interpretation by the majority of social media posters (you could call them Brendan plants if you were losing it) who can also read his body language for him. As for timely manner, coaching doesn’t stop once the season begins; it continues throughout the whole season. Players who arrive on the 30th August will be coached and developed as will players who arrive in January. Brendan, at all his previous clubs, landed players in the final days of the window and understood why that happened. Every manager would like players in as early as possible and would prefer them not to leave if they are good players. But they understand that you cannot keep an unhappy ambitious player at a club he wants to leave. Some of them even left Liverpool.
So no excuses but certainly talk of mitigating circumstances and a it seems to me a clear distinction between business objectives and football objectives.
Ah! I see. Good guys get to justify via mitigating circumstances but bad guys just make excuses. We tend to call it an excuse when we don’t believe the reasons proferred, and when we don’t want to believe they are valid enough to excuse the failure. So, one man’s valid excuse is another man’s weaselly excuse.
It clearly means that those that stated it was Brendan Rodger’s process now and he was in charge were mistaken
I don’t recall anyone saying Brendan was in total charge. Most of us stated he was involved with the process and definitely not frozen out. He does not get to set the transfer budget for example- that requires Board agreement. he does not get to see in person all players on the potential list- that would tie up too much of his time. That was the same when he was at Liverpool and it is very similar to what he had at Celtic last time. When players on the list who are available and affordable and willing are in the final stages, Brendan gets involved again and gets the chance to say yes or no. The players we signed last summer who were found by Brendan to be inadequate were signed off by him and they weren’t unknowns dumped on him. He had the option of saying No to the expenditure on Lagerbielke and Nawrocki and he chose to take them. He shares the failure with the scouts and recruiting team in having approved the contract of players who were thereafter, found to be not good enough or not developing well enough. And he shares responsibility for agreeing to move them on at a loss to their next clubs. He may choose to hint that this was mostly the fault of Michael Nicholson or someone else but they don’t get signed unless Brendan says so (Caveat- I’m not talking about Celtic B players here- just first team ones). Last summer Brendan agreed it was better to have Lagerbielke & Nawrocki available than do without them. This summer he is happy to let them go if he can have other warm bodies to replace them. He is not wholly responsible for either success or failure nor is he completely free of blame when they fail.
On the possibility of transfer failure he stated “I’ve been here before” which was a telling comment.
I’m not sure what it tells me other than he was previously employed at Celtic Park as manager but then, I don’t read sub-text. If you and others mean it’s a clear message that he’s walking away (again)- well we’ll soon see. It just looks mad to me that things were so bad last time that he wanted to leave but then he came back with reassurances that he was prepared to work within the system but now he is prepared to walk away again so soon. That would make him sound and look like an over-precious Diva. Personally, I think he’s better than that and he will be with us for sure for the whole season.
But, I’ve been dead wrong before and will be again.
Mc Cowan good player, BR said he wanted 2 midfielders before MOR away ,Armstrong on a free I would take as well, Polish guy from MLS looks decent as well.We can’t go into a CL campaign with Ralston, Welsh, as back up
Before the question gets asked ‘ who would you sign’
Damn- I’ll need to get Matt out of my William Hills Fantasy team for the weekend. Best of luck to the lad- he’s too nice a guy to get resentful about his leaving.
Bada
I hope the Tesseman/Boguscz rumours are true. It’s always a good sign to me when the club they’re would have preferred to be able to keep them. We could maybe throw Marco Tilio in as a makeweight to the LA side.

I don’t think I’m upsetting you. I think the atmosphere on the blog is as poisonous as I can remember and I think we both are playing a significant role on it
I’ve had long running arguments with both neganons, Kano called me something that would get him banned for a long time these days, I raised a smile when I called him a w*nker when he was in his wheelchair in Oz, I got the wipe your mouth you’re talking shite treatment from Awe Naw, who tried to find out where I was posting from when he hacked nto CQN when Paul67 was on holiday, ask Bournesouprecipe about the time he wanted to fight me on the roundabout by the forge. Ask him about it, I’m sure he’ll remember
I’ve done my time on here and I’ll take whatever is thrown at me but you’re really behaving in a way that’s a bit sinister and different to what I’ve seen before.
A couple of times recently people have talked about things being a tough read on looking back. Reflecting on it I can see my part in it, I’m asking you to do the same
And I’m offering you a way that both of us can do something about the toxic atmosphere in here. I’ll play my part regardless but if we can both do it, you get your wish to get less negativity about Brendan and everyone gets a more harmonious CQN.
Matt O’Riley ,Is he away or as the ticker reads on Sky Sports News in principle?

……………….
The Burnley yobbos only run their mouths coz there is no longer a Jungle to boot their Burnley arses and teach them some manners like the grand oul Junglists did back in 1978.
No Jungle = A Timdom with no balls!
And everybody knows it especially the PLC sharks and their glib and slippery manager.
A left back,a centre back ,another attacking midfielder, and I would add McCowan up in Dundee to that list.
Best of luck Matt, great player for Celtic both daughters will be gutted
Hail Hail
Bada
Bingo well done, 💯 a new keeper, Bernardo, Idah, – then sell O’Riley and see
who we can get in.

8wasn’t young holy watter supposed tae be our 3rd striker and it now seems that BR is content with daisy so no need for a 3rd striker
We are so much stronger than this time last year.
How high can we get that cash mountain ?
Hurrah for our plc ! All Hail Hail our plc

anybody ever visited the Barga Celtic supporters’ club?
Boy that ran that club shut up shop couple of years ago – shop was Paolo Gas at the Fosso in Barga … haven’t heard a thing from them since. Will enquire further.
Think what Brendan said was a 3rd Striker is not the priority,
Basing that on Idah, Kyogo & Maeda if needed,
The Priority has to be Centre Half, Left back & 2 midfielders,
Armstrong on a freebie seems a no brainer to me, if he was willing to come.
Think we have now reached the end game, no more fecking about, close the deals,
Test
We are now weaker without Matt . Let’s hope it’s temporary . Especially as we are now also even richer .
Celtic40me and Chairboy you generally both make good reading from your respective points of view. Keep posting. There have always been opposite views on here with a range of descriptions like happy clapper mineshafter bed wetter all that banter. All of that is handbags and exactly what a blog is for. When it crosses the line and posters get personal that is when it is uncomfortable and the damage is mostly to the posters. Everyone else pops in and out when they want. So keep on posting and play the ball not the player, it’s not always easy I know. Hail Hail . Big Idah to score a hat trick on Sunday.
Sad to hear that Matt is most likely on his way. All the best, young mhan. You were privileged to wear the jersey. We were privileged to watch you become a great football player.
Can Bernardo step up , we will soon find out .HH
