Any management team has only so much bandwidth. You see the effect of this in organisations when the pressure is applied. Urgent matters, the ones that come screaming into your inbox, or literally banging on your door, tend to take your focus.
Strategically important issues seldom do this. They can sit in the outfield for a long time, so much so, they blend into the background and you stop noticing them. Then something big happens and bang, you have an urgent matter which you could have dealt with months earlier.
Yesterday’s Scottish news saw an example of this. At an inquiry into deaths at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, a manager admitted he “dropped the ball” in not reacting to a report issued years earlier. An unusual admission of laxity.
Football clubs also a million things metaphorically banging on their door; there is always a crisis and always things which are not really today’s priorities that look like priorities. That’s why the little things, like submitting a planning request to Glasow City Council to make stadium changes to accommodate away fans can slip through the net.
The signs are that Newco management’s bandwidth is more constricted than most. They are making very visible mistakes. Unlike the hospital manager, their appetite for taking responsibility isn’t great. Results will soon out them.

First thing I do every morning is check the Celtic news, and I was really sad to see that Matt is definitely on his way. Then I looked in at CQN and saw your post, and it cheered me up. Thank you, Sean.

Good morning all from Govanhill. Saturday is here! Let the good times roll. 👍🍺😁
Good morning all from another rainy day in the Garngad.
But you know what “Things can only get better”.
I hope you all slept as well as I did in knowing that B78’S son rates Brendan Rodgers. Phew.
If as I suspect you are a Liewellette you are basically saying Rodgers is being set up to fail.
The lists that are put in front of Brendan are not good enough as someone dissects them first (another Liewellette), Brendan then asks for better players to be met with prolonged negotiations with clubs, players, agents.
As a club we should be embarrassed at the way the scouting/recruitment system is being carried out.
Oh and please do not tell me Brendan wanted hus say.
A club of our size should have a system in place to support the manager and coaching team not HINDER them.
As that is what’s happening. LIEWELL HAS A GRUDGE TO BEAR A BEEF IF YOU LIJE WITH BR.
We will never move forward in European football as long as that man and his lackey’s are holding our club back and treating it like a family business.
Have a nice day all.
Time for breakfast, sourdough toast, poached eggs, salmon, tomatoes and onion finely chopped.
D. :)
Good morning from a damp north staffs.
Still nothing official on Matt’s move
Time for breakfast – porridge with salt

Tremendous Post- sets us all up for Sunday.

I’ll leave it to the posters named to answer the charge but….. I watched the Presser, tx, and I heard all the caveats he actually said.
Around 11 still to trap for Superbru today.
A good show again last night Bhoys

Sad to see Matt go, though he grateful he arrived in the first place.
We can all agree that the squad as at today is weaker than that which ended last season. Only a fool would…..well, let’s leave that for now.
No surprise that Matt has gone, so hopeful our scouting network has identified and negotiated with a couple of possible replacements. The hinges on the window are creaking, ahead of next weeks slam.
Over to you, Celtic.
This Celtic Board do NOT have Champions League ” AMBITIONS”.
As far as I am aware MATT O’RILEY did NOT ask for a Transfer, nor was he unhappy at the wages that Celtic were paying him at this time.
Did Celtic really HAVE to sell Matt O’Riley at this early stage of the season….I don’t think so ?
In order to have Champions League ” AMBITIONS”, you can NOT SELL your best players, and then expect to get good/great results playing in Europe…..Unless Celtic sign at LEAST One excellent Midfield player before next Friday to try and TRY to replace O’Riley, who hits the ground running…..that is a Tall Order.
I am NOT looking forward to watching Celtic in the Champions League this season, UNLESS we BUY at least Two or Three Class players by next Friday. I won’t be holding my breath for that to happen.
This Celtic Board will have a cheek in expecting Celtic supporters to pay TOP Money for Champions League games….while SELLING our BEST Players at the same time.
SCUNNERED CFC.
BOONDOCK, great post HH
If the boots was on the other foot we all know what the outcome would be.
Since Summer 2022 Celtic have saw departures of their players generate up to around £93.9M worth of fees.
Add in ST money and CL money you’re looking at close to £150m. Spending another £25m-£30m in the next week on 3 or 4 quality “should” be no problem at all and that’s me being conservative.
For as long as I can remember Celtic managers AND Celtic Boards will continue to claim that Celtic FC is an attraction for Good/Great Players to join the Club due to us being in the Champions League most of the time.
At the same time Celtic are allowing our BEST Players leave the Club and miss out on Champions League Fitba with other Clubs…..Brighton and Hove Albion…..WHO the FECK are they to be a Bigger and Better attraction than Celtic FC ?
Celtic SHOULD have REFUSED to sell O’Riley until January at the earliest !
SCUNNERED CFC.

Great post. Thank you.

Brendan spoke of the Lions yesterday during his presser. We’re a former European cup winner and he sees it as his duty to ensure we compete at that level – as opposed to showing up getting the dosh and finishing bottom.
BR wants us to be the best Celtic possible within our resources and at that moment we’re some way short of that.
Is there some sort of unwritten law that we HAVE to sell first or that we HAVE to make a profit on player trading every fecking window ?!!…
That’s what it seems like …I honestly can’t see all the business that needs sorted being sorted in a week !!….they might blow me out the water but I still have Fletcher, McGinn and Toney nightmares!!
Simple solution. Get KT back, even on loan, get the LA guy in and get the German kid in.

Top post Boondock Saint.
The manager has the ambition to make the team competitive in the Europe that’s where he has set the bar and not ignoring domestic matters, he knows that if we have a European standard team then winning domestically will be very likely.
However the plc want to maximise money they invest low expecting profits and sell the best at the drop of a hat, that is not building for a European team it is a business where the first team is secondary money the primary objective, the conflict between a plc and a Football Club obvious.
I don’t expect Celtic to do any business this week other than some loans from bloated Epl or Championship squads they might even have an option to buy. If I’m wrong I will say so on here, but even with fortunes in cash at the clubs disposal they haven’t a clue what to do with it other than sit on it doing nothing numbers in a bank balance.
Get a proper head of recruitment employed and scouting network and a director of Football Martin O’Neill and signs non project players to win matches in the CL were you gain 4m a win is my suggestion. Board needs footy men and fully refreshed were standing still on and off the park right now.
Read the ROOM.
CELTIC FC ✌️🍀NOT PLC 🙃
Big few days for the charlatans that bleed the club dry to do something.
I won’t hold my breath….

Excellent post, we are truly blessed to be Celtic fans.
CQN is a poor read these days,
I don’t know how people can post the same comment every day, go over the same argument every day.
You’ve turned into the pub bore.
Driving home from Hamilton races last night listening to the radio and Brighton, with all the advantages of EPL status, were rightly being lauded as being the perfect model by the presenter. Perfect for transitioning players and managers over a period of time whilst continuing success on the pitch and retaining fan base.
I get in and look on here and Celtic, which has been well run for 20 years after an eleventh hour reprieve, as close as Brightons, and a period in the doldrums, is judged by a different set of rules by, supposedly, its own people.
Despite its best ever trophy haul and a generation of domination domestically. Despite some of the most incredible European results in this period. Punching massively above its weight in europes top competition.
We are on the cusp of having a chance to do it again in Europe. With a good manager and strong base of a team. Yet folk are behaving like we are on the brink of falling apart because we sell a player who we already have backfill for.
I think people have seen the movie before.
Sell them high, stick the cash away and continue to fleece the fans.
Maybe they will surprise us this time…
And yet some are delighted to be treated like fools.
Ref punching above our weight in the top competition I reference Manchester Utd, Milan (should have beaten them in last 16 if VAR was on at the time) , Barcelona, Benfica, Ajax and Shakthar.
Decent scalps for a non top 5 league team, with a pittance for to revenue, living within its means.
If the Board are hoarding cash to pay for a replacement main stand I would support that. But they should tell us.
If they’re hoarding it for their own benefit they’re a disgrace to a club founded to feed the poor of the east end.
ONIL
Where is the cash being stuck away to ?
You say it as if folk are personally benefiting somehow from fleecing fans.
Name names ?
morning all.

“We are on the cusp of having a chance to do it again in Europe.”
With possibly a weaker squad than last season and look how that ended.
Head? Sand? FFS
PLB
Maybe I give support more credit than is due.
Celtic accounts are more transparent than they even need to be. There are a few clubs who are completely opaque such as across the city.
One thing no one can accuse Celtic of is not sharing their finances. It’s the only stick the MsM has had to stir things up and my god our so called support are falling for it.
They are holding on to too much money is not something anyone can say across the city.
Who benefits from it ? No one on the board that is for sure.
Despite its best ever trophy haul and a generation of domination domestically. Despite some of the most incredible European results in this period
What incredible European results? 20 odd years ago? When is the last time we won a knockout tie over 2 legs? Celtic have been an embarrassment in Europe for a long long time, mostly due to lack of investment, and a forward thinking player succession programme, rinse and repeat this season. I see you’re already laying the groundwork to blame Brendan, for yet another failed transfer window, your hero will be proud of you.
“onenightinlisbon on 24th August 2024 9:35 am
And yet some are delighted to be treated like fools.”
Post like that one will simply drive people away from CQN…..indeed, I believe that has already happened.
Doff our caps to the sheysters and thank them for a wonderful European result achieved over 20 years ago.
Time for these jokers to be ousted.

Why? It’s the truth.
He must be fishing 🎣 scroll on and don’t bite.
Free advice.
Brendan already improved players and he’ll be doing his job to his full capacity were lucky to have him and I believe KHUN REO BERNARDO & IDAH will be key players this season adding more assists and goals 👍
No one is “fishing”.
Thought this was supposed to be a place where people could express opinions?
If you don’t like them do as is suggested….
