Any management team has only so much bandwidth. You see the effect of this in organisations when the pressure is applied. Urgent matters, the ones that come screaming into your inbox, or literally banging on your door, tend to take your focus.
Strategically important issues seldom do this. They can sit in the outfield for a long time, so much so, they blend into the background and you stop noticing them. Then something big happens and bang, you have an urgent matter which you could have dealt with months earlier.
Yesterday’s Scottish news saw an example of this. At an inquiry into deaths at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, a manager admitted he “dropped the ball” in not reacting to a report issued years earlier. An unusual admission of laxity.
Football clubs also a million things metaphorically banging on their door; there is always a crisis and always things which are not really today’s priorities that look like priorities. That’s why the little things, like submitting a planning request to Glasow City Council to make stadium changes to accommodate away fans can slip through the net.
The signs are that Newco management’s bandwidth is more constricted than most. They are making very visible mistakes. Unlike the hospital manager, their appetite for taking responsibility isn’t great. Results will soon out them.

Please calm down.
We beat Barcelona 12 years ago to qualify for the last 16 in the top competition. Despite playing within our financial means.
Tell me which club outside the top 4 leagues would you wish to emulate in their success this past 20 years ?
“onenightinlisbon on 24th August 2024 9:35 am
Why? It’s the truth. ”
Is it ?
Cheerio for now.
We all project our real lives onto how we feel about Celtic, so that means every view is valid. I hope that most of us will be happy on transfer close knowing that another treble, difficult as it is, is on the cards, and that the hoops will punch up in the CL. Enjoy your weekend CQN.

I salute your efforts but surely you know they are pointless?
Boavista 2003….. does that ring any bells?

Grow up for God’s sake.
The past few years we have had some horrendous results, thank goodness Sevco came and took over as the worse team ever in the Champions League.
I believe that this year you get £4 m per win ,keep our best players 3 wins £12m then pay your top players top money and buy better.
Not our lot,put it in the bank .
We will never be a top player in Europe until we get rid of Lawwell and his puppets

You on a fishing trip……..
There was a post on here, I think it was Wednesday night which referenced the CL play off games and how difficult a job we’d face if we came up against this quality of opponent next season.
It stuck with me because I was watching one of the games referenced as I read it. Bodo v red star. A poor game with bang average players – both clubs having an annual turnover of €20-25 million.
It seems to me that some supporters set the bar incredibly low for Celtic. There’s no planet in which we should be getting knocked out of major tournaments by sides with 1/6th of our annual turnover.
Cluj, Ferencvaros, Maribor, AEK & Malmo spring to mind in the last ten years. A simply horrendous European record and I’m glad BR is not prepared to accept such standards.

I ask you the question because few (none) have enjoyed any significant success (last 16 or better) in the big cup without sacrificing domestic dominance. Salzburg have even recently come a cropper (despite their funding). Few have consistently achieved in big cup at all. Benfica perhaps the only one. Maybe Porto also but both do enjoy a strong domestic challenge. They also have the Brazil link. It’s not easy to find a role model.
Just seen Arteta talking about his relationship with Edu ,Arsenal Sporting Director over transfers, night and day compared to Grace Brothers FC
Seville
ONIL
Boavista ?
A stressful but enjoyable night. Fun returning to Glasgow Airport after ?
Who were the sheysters ?
Seville are a top 4 league team. Zero domestic success. They enjoy strong domestic competition hence they have done well in Europe although almost all in lower level European competitions.
Most on here are demanding CL success.

I admire your determination and steadfastness but you are pissing against the wind.
Seville- 7 UEFA Cups/Europa Leaves
I wonder if Matt will be ‘paraded’ at Brighton’s home game today Ko 12.30
As I posted earlier, let’s hope those who run the club surprise us and actually spend some cash and strengthen.
To think automatically that Celtic are a Champions League level team is nonsense, Europa League at best
FC Copenhagen….. a fraction of our budget

Curious you thought the qualifiers were poor. I thought the opposite. ESP Young Boys v Gala.
Ref Red Star turnover, I think it is obfuscated by the wider sporting enterprise and other entities.
They are a far larger outfit than any other than ourselves and possibly rangers.
Re Malmo and Maribor, these were both in the era when we had zero domestic competition and no kerb appeal for decent players and not even selling out our stadium. Curiously Malmo was 9 months after beating Barcelona whose budget dwarfed ours.
I don’t recall Ferencvaros beating us in the CL.
AEK was under Brendan’s watch and his CL record / euro record with any club is not good. I agree.

Does the record still stand?
I don’t think zealotry, fundamentalism, the systematic and aggressive elimination of negative thought through “attrition” is healthy in any society never mind a small one like CQN.
Stamina will probably “win” in the minds of some but it’s a hollow victory.
You’re left with a malfunctioning group of closed minds. “Happy” in its own way but horribly ignorant.
We’re blessed with a blog written by a great mind and a huge Celtic supporter. We’ve turned it into a bi polar pub fight.
Shame on us, really.
Mark Burchill – fastest hattrick in European competition

Copenhagen
Well budgeted.
Just made it into the conference league play offs and not even in top 3 domestically.
Consistently not winning their own league.
Would you be happy with that really ?
Bada Bing
Seville
Never won anything domestically but did in the smaller euro cups. Initially in an ear when no one really cared and laterly helped by very strong domestic competition helping hone their skills. A nice playing environment to attract good players.
Bada Bing
If you do feel we are Europa
Out route to Europa would be by losing a CL playoff or qualifier only. Is that your preference vs CL in new format ?
Anyway off for a few hours into the hills on the bike now. Less windy at last.
Huge game for Celtic tomorrow. Against a team with a fraction of our budget. A club which don’t like us at all. I hope our world class manager has our team focused .
Celtic40me
Good post
HS,
Thanks for your efforts in trying to reason with one of those who are dragging down CQN. Sad to say they are achieving their aim. Why?? I wish I could answer that. Keep posting, please. That goes for the likes of SFTHB and Burnley78.
It used to be a pleasure logging on here. It seldom is these days, no matter that our team is enjoying the generation of domination Paul67 predicted years and years ago.
Test
Many on here see we have a great opportunity to strengthen the team to compete in the CL. We clearly have the resources, do we have the ambition. Brenda clearly has.
I’m confident we will sign at least 2 more 1st team ready players, however I can see why some aren’t.
Back later
Well Thank You Matt for your contribution to Celtic and the enjoyment you gave watching you

Good luck and may you grow even more.

why havnt brighton that model of transfer brilliance, completed a deal for matt o’riley,
—————————————————————————————————
They have now, that’s what happens when you have a club with a proper recruitment structure that aligns with their manager.
Now, where are those 5 players that BR requires to complete the squad he and the support want and deserve, with 6 days left of the transfer window?
Gene, that generation of dominance would have been decades of dominance if old rangers hadn’t cheated for twenty years under DM.
