Continually learning Gordon Strachan

956

I remember Scotland-England games being huge events.  They were proper derby games, fired up by a balance – a vastly more resourceful England were in the ascendancy, but Scotland had more wins in the history books.  Despite the odd hiding we thought we could take them.

The Home International Championships probably ended at the right time, just before Scotland lunged into mediocrity.  No derby remains attractive if one side dreads the game coming round, while the other considers it a formality, but our former manager has given us reason for hope.

Gordon Strachan took time off from the game to invest in his stock of knowledge before becoming Celtic manager.  Despite an, erm, memorable opening week, Gordon blitzed Scottish football as Celtic manager.  He filled the boots of legend Martin O’Neill, and within 18 months eclipsed him by reaching what we used to refer to as ‘the next level in the Champions League’.

Despite going on to reach the knock-out stage of the Champions League again, and becoming our third manager to win three-in-a-row, Gordon stopped progressing.  His time at Celtic petered out, while the entire Middlesbrough episode was a nightmare.

Gordon, like Martin before him, looked as though the game had passed him by.  His resurgence at Scotland is evidence of his outstanding attribute – he’s a student of the game who continually learns.

Roy Hodgson has by far the better players, but never bet against Gordon.

Shaun’s goal on Friday

31 years ago in Sarawak, Malaysia, a midwife, Beatrice Lo, assisted in the delivery of a boy born to a Scottish family who lived in her community.  Beatrice got in touch with a common friend after wee Shaun’s goal on Friday, very proud of the kid she brought into the world.

It is rumoured that there is a floating mega casino just below ground level.

  2. The reason Celtic fans have been criminalised for singing some of the songs mentioned above is coz….Celtic’s kow-towing ‘bored’ allowed themselves to be summoned to a Govt summit based on the ‘shame-game’ in which Celtic had 3 players booked!!!

3 players booked and, yer called to a Govt Summit???

Celtic’s ‘bored’ – at that point – should have held their own media conference with ‘NO’ local media permitted just national media and had a QC outlining ‘WHY’ Celtic FC and their fans would not be on the recieving end of ‘ANY’ blame for the ‘shame-game’

Well said KEV JUNGLE.Would have stopped it in its tracks.

Man City wanted £2.5m for a permanent deal in the summer, amazing his value has doubled in 3 months playing for the Hoops

Shows what we could make by signing him on a Bosman in January, keeping for a couple of seasons, then allowing to move on

Ball in our Court, as well as John Guidetti, who appears very content with us

Leading on from the Morten Wieghorst goal I posted yesterday, here is another of my favourite Celtic goals by another man who has come through serious illness:

I tend to agree but that ball is certainly not in our court. It is in John Guidetti’s court at the minute.

I am still confused as to why we bought Scepovic. If Guidetti was available for £3m or even £4m we should have just signed him on a permanent basis. Just my thoughts but I think Griffith’s is more able than Scopovic. He may change my mind on that though. It’s relatively early days.

I’m not convinced the boy will go back to Man City if they offer him another deal. If you mean he can be recalled in January I would expect it will depend on the paper work and paper work is one thing Celtic usually get spot on.

Re last nights game in general my own opinion is that CP hosted it brilliantly, unfortunately it brought back memories of a certain away support and reminded me what a pleasure its been without them. On the park I think Scotland were out-muscled, outclassed and generally didnt deserve anything from it. Need to remember that most of our squad are made up of Championship players whilst england can call upon players mostly with Champions League/World Cup experience. Always disappointed to lose to them but Friday definitely mattered most. Just glad we’re back to the real business on Saturday

I get that all I’m saying is that the institution from Edinburgh tried to close my club down when there was another club who owed more money to the bank than my club did, and why was that? And who made that decision? This was way before EBTs came out I get that, but it did happen and nothing was done about it, kinda like the way the EBTs Thingie is going, there is a pattern here, that’s all I’m saying, people are getting away with all sorts of stuff and only Celtic fans are complaining why is that? Why is it just us? What are the other clubs fans afraid of? We fight alone, and we’re getting nowhere, if the other fans don’t kixk up feckin, then all this will continue UNTILL it’s to late, and they will sup grief with the spoon of sorrow.

  11. Livibhoy,

I’m saying they can offer more than sellic and the French club combined. But I think jg will stay with us for game time.

    Also jg wasn’t worth £3 m in the summer…….he is now ;)

On your first point: when did the ‘whataboutery card’ become invalid? Am I mistaken or is it still accepted in UK law as patterned precedence to excuse consequential behaviour?.Have you never used it?

On your second point I can’t argue whether he does or does not, I don’t read a lot of the blog and I don’t read a lot of Kev_Jungles stuff, I neither have the time nor do I need to remind myself that what he so often states are just ‘inconvenient truths’, that should be brushed under the carpet, to so many on here. I could introduce yet another ‘whataboutery card’ at this point but I won’t. I will however say I cringe when I read some call him ‘troll’ or ‘hun’ because I read ever more increasing numbers of generalised, assumptive, aggressive, malevolent, Machiavellian, narcissistic, duplicitous, deceitful, sinisterly inferring, anti-Celtic, etc. etc. etc. contributions being posted on here that pass without comment.

At least Kev_J is his own man, with his own mind, with stated agenda, who is not invisible or anonymous and who does not try to mince his words. And he (to the best of my knowledge) does not invent multiple persons who post in support of his ‘contentious’ points.

When I mentioned judging I didn’t have you in mind per se, it was more broader than that… let’s say who is worthy of judgment and who sneaks under the criteria and why?
