Contracts are not optional

392

That whole ‘We don’t do walking away’ without a payoff business looks a little different this morning.  Dave King has told the media Derek Llambias and Barry Leach are ‘demanding’ a payoff.  It would be more likely that they have informed King of the terms of their contracts, which is all they are able to demand.  Under the circumstances, it would be extraordinary if either ‘walked away’ from their contracts.

Contracts of employment are not optional.  Terms have to be honoured, even if the employees’ services are no longer required, as I’m sure Mr Llambias’ solicitor will inform him when he discusses King’s threat to sue him for EGM costs.  This easy-come, easy-go attitude to contracts is, well, shameless.

For what it’s worth, my money is on Llambias and Leach resigning in the hours before the EGM, once they have ensured business is sorted.  This is the scenario King wanted, there’s no point complaining now it’s playing out.

World Autism Day

After their successful work with Downs Syndrome children, the homeless and many disadvantaged groups, next month the Celtic Foundation will embark on work with children with autism.  A pilot project is currently being designed which will work to enhance each child’s wellbeing.

Autism is described in terms of a ‘spectrum’ as it includes people who live independently to those who require very specialised support on a daily basis.  Recent decades have seen enormous improvements in understanding of the condition and on strategies to help, especially in children, which is where this pilot project comes in.

World Autism Day is 2 April and on that day the Foundation is holding its inaugural Golf Day (11 years behind the magnificent CQN Open) at Renfrew Golf Club.  The event is supported by Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher (who will not be playing) and a host of former Celtic players (who will be playing).

It’s a great initiative for the Foundation, reaching out into a new and important area, so if you’re a golfer and will enjoy a day on the course with friends and former players, go here to book.

  3. My friends in Celtic,

A big part of football management is communications, and how to manipulate the press to your own agenda.

I actually think RD handles this very well, considering the many traps that are placed before him.

I for one, hopes he doesn’t keep it zipped.

Alfie Noakes – I don’t get involved in your political chat, but as you’ve wandered into football talk you need to understand it’s all about opinions. I’ve got to admit, I don’t like hearing the talk from the manager that we’re going to win the treble, I’d rather we won it first then spoke about it. And in case you didn’t notice he had a smiley after the comment about keeping it zipped ;-) you need to chill out more on your football chat.

    The other stuff, knock yourself out as I (and hope most of us do ) ignore it…;

The point I was taking the long way round to getting to, is that you’ll never be able to prove the OBFA is unfairly targetting Celtic supporters because all you have to go in is the numbers.

What you need to look at is the conviction rate of Celtic supporters vs other teams. Then you might see that we are being unfairly targeted by the police. It’s quite an important distinction I think.

  9. RD’s utterences seem to be upsetting some hyper-sensitive people. Maybe RD should keep it zipped in case there is a clamour for some new Holyrood law to be drafted to shut him up.

However when my mum was employed as a Business Studies teacher at St Modan’s High School in Stirling (about ’79-80) it was made pretty clear that it was due to my brother being in the faith and that he’d be attending the school, even though she was not.

I agree it’s totally different now. Is that in some part due to a lack of teachers? We’ll never know I guess.

You know it’s pretty weird. most of us have left wing views on things, but we are reduced to arguing how to achieve that goal.

Most of.us are old enough to remember that sinking feeling.of Scotland voting Labour only to.see Thatcher re-elected.

Don’t want that to be repeated with Cameron.

  15. The Battered Bunnet on

The religious aspect of Hate Crime statistics being referenced on the blog today needs to be set in context.

Firstly, they demonstrate that there is a residual ‘sectarian’ legacy in Scotland, despite much progress having been made over the past three decades or so.

Secondly, they demonstrate that if you are a Police Officer, a Nurse or a Bus Driver, you are hugely more likely to be the victim of a religiously aggravated offence than any other group. Typically two thirds of victims of Religiously Aggravated crimes are public servants doing their job. The ‘direction’ of offence is a reflection of the mind of the offender, not the religious identity of the offended.

The figures do not demonstrate very much else in terms of the direction of offending or the probability of being offended against. Such talk in this regard is often self-serving, and always counter-productive.

Thirdly, religious aggravations represent a small fraction – less than 15% – of Hate Crime in Scotland. More people are victimised in Scotland on the grounds of their presumed sexuality than are victimised on the grounds of their presumed religion.

Moreover, Race is by far the most common aggravation, accounting for around 80% of all recorded hate crimes in Scotland.

The problem with racism is so endemic that in the 10 years since such crimes have been recorded, 20% of the entire Scottish population of black and minority ethic groups have been the victim of a recorded hate crime.

    20%. One in 5.

Moreover, hate crimes are only recorded when an accused has been charged. When no accused can be identified, or no charges brought, no hate crime is recorded. Thus, the two Asian men who were beaten half to death in Glasgow last year by a mob of white youths were not officially victims of a hate crime, despite credible and numerous witness statements to that effect, because the perpetrators have never been identified.

While the religious aspect of Hate Crime – so-called Sectarianism – gets all the news and all the funding in Scotland, it is a small subset of a much wider problem. When it comes to discrimination, whether Race, Gender, Sexuality, Ethnicity, Ability, Religion and on and on, we are pretty indiscriminate.

Tend to agree but what most people forget is that Sevco do not have to beat Celtic to compete with us. They only have to beat everyone else.

It will probably take around 5 years but I imagine they won;t be far away. The key is for Aberdeen and Dundee United even Hearts to get stronger. If they are harder to beat it makes it harder for any resurgent club from Ibrox. Their match day revenue is such that it is inevitable at some point they will be Celtic’s main challengers. If they continue with their financial issues it may take longer.

On the other hand we should be doing all we can to keep Denayer and Virgil, they are both exceptional and I’m sure with the lure of Champions league Football virtually assured each year then a deal should/could be made to them to entice them to stay at Paradise.

Could be wrong of course, if they don’t want to be here then, ta ra, and thanks

It’s no guarantee that they will get promoted this year, if they don’t, the s@@t really will hit the fan.

Operating costs atm are crippling them ! They will need to replace all the higher earners in the squad who are out of contract with inferior players .. They won’t have big Mikes Newcastle development team to top them up either ..

Whether they go up or not King will ensure that they have near to full houses. That will help. Don;t know enough about the finances to comment too much but they will benefit from a blank canvas with a new manager. What I have seen recently the team is dross for the money paid out for players. Probably suit them better to stay down another season and come up when ready.

As for Hibs they look a very decent side under Stubbs and would love them to come up as it is an easy ticket for myself and Mrs LB to get tickets for as she is on the Hibs mailing list and I don;t mind sitting in the home end for our games against Hibs.

Teams at the bottom of the league are finding form but I think Hibs have shown how easy it is to go down if the team trying to come up are on form and flying like Hamilton were. I doubt Hibs would make the same mistake twice.

I wonder how Hearts will perform next season. They look to have a decent side and no doubt have won the league in great fashion but we beat them twice fairly easy 3-0. How big is the gap between the top 2 leagues? We will find out next season. I think it is bigger than a lot of people think.

As for Celtic tonight. I think this could be one of our toughest games in the next run of matches. St Johnstone get stuck in and have proven a tough outfit to beat the last couple of years. Wouldn;t risk anyone with a knock of any kind tonight and would prefer us to put the experienced Bhoys out tonight. Only youngster I would risk would be Henderson as he likes to get stuck in himself.

Hopefully another goalfest but would be pleased with a 1-0 victory. I think the league will be won before Easter. The Dons spirit is probably now broken and other teams have much more to fight for. If we can secure the 3 points tonight I would expect Aberdeen to drop points in the next 3 to 4 games. Aberdeen are currently in Tenerife at a winter training camp. I am sure there fans would prefer them to be preparing for a Scottish cup tie this weekend.

Careful @ 13:37 re: Dee Hepburn

That film was one of my favourites and the bane of my life at the same time. I was 17 or so when it came out, shy, tall, gawky and played centre forward…. and was madly in love with the star athlete at our school (Tammy) … so, my pals called me Gregory for years!

As for Dee, I was more partial to Clare Grogan…. truth be told, I still am! She’s lovely.
