Contracts are not optional

392

That whole ‘We don’t do walking away’ without a payoff business looks a little different this morning.  Dave King has told the media Derek Llambias and Barry Leach are ‘demanding’ a payoff.  It would be more likely that they have informed King of the terms of their contracts, which is all they are able to demand.  Under the circumstances, it would be extraordinary if either ‘walked away’ from their contracts.

Contracts of employment are not optional.  Terms have to be honoured, even if the employees’ services are no longer required, as I’m sure Mr Llambias’ solicitor will inform him when he discusses King’s threat to sue him for EGM costs.  This easy-come, easy-go attitude to contracts is, well, shameless.

For what it’s worth, my money is on Llambias and Leach resigning in the hours before the EGM, once they have ensured business is sorted.  This is the scenario King wanted, there’s no point complaining now it’s playing out.

World Autism Day

After their successful work with Downs Syndrome children, the homeless and many disadvantaged groups, next month the Celtic Foundation will embark on work with children with autism.  A pilot project is currently being designed which will work to enhance each child’s wellbeing.

Autism is described in terms of a ‘spectrum’ as it includes people who live independently to those who require very specialised support on a daily basis.  Recent decades have seen enormous improvements in understanding of the condition and on strategies to help, especially in children, which is where this pilot project comes in.

World Autism Day is 2 April and on that day the Foundation is holding its inaugural Golf Day (11 years behind the magnificent CQN Open) at Renfrew Golf Club.  The event is supported by Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher (who will not be playing) and a host of former Celtic players (who will be playing).

It’s a great initiative for the Foundation, reaching out into a new and important area, so if you’re a golfer and will enjoy a day on the course with friends and former players, go here to book.

I believe Warrior is being done away with as New balance want to really make a dent in the football market with their own brand.

I don;t think Warrior has hit it off as well as they thought. Could be wrong though.

Rumour is Hearts will get New balance too next season. Looks like they are going to have a proper hit at football next year and get into the very lucrative football market properly.

I expect them to pick up a lot of clubs in the UK.

The sports firm, based in Oregon, paid Celtic £5 million a year to make their kits.

  4. The new kit looks very smart. Can’t wait to see it on display in the CL next season. :-)

  5. Had a wee half hour on Monkey Media today,on the Boardroom site.Sooooo funny. They just have no earthly idea.

    Couple of quotes

“Who cares about the second £5 million,Dave King can pay Ashley his £10 million back on Monday”

“This second £5 million,is it a good or bad thing”

  6. TD, I got it, thanks for posting. I quite like the look of it too!

Regards, John Guidetti, he would be wise to sign a two year deal reestablish his goal scoring touch and move on in a couple of years time, hopefully helping us along the way

Keep in mind he hasn’t played a lot of football in the last few years

TD67 …. as a rule, I usually prefer 6 or 7 hoops … not too thick, not too thin … the 82(?) strip we wore with the big wide strips (looked like a green QPR strip .. not for me) … the thinner striped one from 2 seasons ago was okay, but I really wasnt keen on the current one (with the groups of seven thin hoops).

My favourite strips from the last few years … the centenary one with the Celtic cross … great strip and the first season we had carling as our sponsor (2002, I think) … both pretty simple, but classy.

I had heard that Warrior wasn’t selling well enough, so NB (the parent company) was going forward using the NB label … but not sure if that is correct.

  10. Imo, we should not start with either SA or GMS this evening. We cannot play them in the next 2 games against DU, so we need to give game time to Forrest and Henderson and maybe Scepovic. Hopefully, Forrest in particular will show the right attitude.

  11. There was always a load of rubbish spoken about Gary Hooper. In his last season, many saying he was not interested, out for a while injured, scored 30 goals including 2 in Cup Final.

    Yep,deffo not trying a leg.

Best striker since Henrik. His assists were right up there too.

I’d be disappointed if they only marched the Nike offer

    I knew what you meant!

I fully expect PL got us a better deal.

Hope you are well and mind those stairs tonight!

  14. Funny about strips me.Dont really care what they look like.As long as they are hoops, green and white, and the badge, that does me.Think people have to remember these companies are aiming at world markets.tastes differ.I hope when the new strip does come out it is one of those fekin scary, skin hugging ones.Next season RDs teams, wearing those would frighten half the SPL players to death.

Agree with you on Hooper – 2013-14 was his best season at the club. He also played in the Commons role in Lennon’s 4-3-1-2 formation, and I thought he was better than Kris there.

  16. Well I’m going back a bit, I loved the one green collars green sleevs, and the big FU Shamrock on the heart, hardly played with it, I’v often thought in my years in Canada when the American collage football season was on, my team of course was Notre Dame, and any time they played in a big game, like a bowl game or a big play off, they had this special Jersey and gold helmets they used to kit up on, it was kinda like a privilege only a few teams got to wear it, I used the think if celtic did that for say cup finals, trebles, big european games it would REALY boost the team, my shirt with the shamrock would be the strip I would pick, mind you I liked the celtic cross one too, just a thought.

philboy …. Nike’s annual revenue is around 25 Billion …. we really are a pimple on the elephants butt for them …. decent fan base, but little or no tv exposure, which limits our international exposure and growth …

I am prone to criticize PL, but in this case, to be fair to him, Nike holds all the cards …. At the outset of the Nike contract, Celtic gear was placed in some of the international stores, but it soon faded, to the point I sometimes didn’t see any in the nike stores …. my sense is that Nike didn’t care if twe stayed or not …

I have no inside information, so could be wrong … but that is my sense of it.

  18. Remember when the experts told us the scottish championship will be the most competitive in Europe hahahaha

.. a pal of mine was offered a professorship at Notre Dame, but didn’t want to go (didn’t like their politics under Fr. Hesburgh), but didn’t want to say so … so, he figured it he asked for the moon, they would pull their offer …so, he asked for an ungodly amount of money, no problem … the only demand of his they wouldn’t/couldn’t give him were two seats for the football … he was told there are senators and congressmen on the waiting list ahead of him who have been waiting for years!

This game tonight is a vital one.

Win it and it is 9 points.

It is another big step towards the title and 4 in a row.

St Johnstone gave us a harder game than most have a few weeks ago.

A lot of work needed to be done.

  22. mike in toronto on

philbhoy … it is all about tv rights, and there, we do lag far behind …. there was an article in the paper this week which suggested that the SPFL gets about 10% of what it should for the TV revenue … it wasn’t the best article, but I will see if I can dig it up, and will post it if I can.

I suspect you are not far away from that assessment.

New Balance are carving out a new business in football and need to out bid more established brands. NB have clearly saw a chance with Celtic due to our deal with Nike expiring. I assume that Nike either wanted to renew on the same terms or didn;t want to renew. Either way Celtic have spoke to new suitors and NB have obviously made an offer to the clubs liking. Nike were decent but not inspiring. Some of the away kits were lazy designs bar the all white Celtic cross jersey. The home jersey’s were not always great but I guess there is a limit to the amount of changes you can make with green and white Hoops.

I would hope that the club have more input with NB because the Liverpool goalie and away kits have been nothing short of horrific under their sub brand Warrior.

We know what will sell and what our fans want and if the club don;t they should do. Classy away kits and traditional home kits are the key to making Celtic kits that can sell.

The Hoops is a world renowned jersey. It is one of the most recogniseable in sport. I have been Hoop spotting all my life and see the jersey in all sorts of places. I don;t deny that there are probably just as many Man Utd, Chelski, Arsenal, etc kits at events but the Hoops stands out a mile. Probably Dortmund have the only kit that stands out more than the Hoops. If New balance do this right they can make a lot of money. I said the same with Nike though and they sort of lost interest when they could have been coining it in. I believe near plain black away kits are great sellers abroad but not sure how great they are on a cold wet night away in the Scottish Cup. I look forward to what NB can produce. Hopefully they get the design and price right. Some of the prices for kits these days are shocking and please learn from Nike and make the Celtic FC official website and stores the cheapest places to buy our kits. If it is a few quid cheaper than everywhere almost else every single fan will buy it there and more products on top. It’s not difficult!

I don’t mind the media jumping on the fact Aberdeen have given it a go this season. It’s in the leagues and sponsors best interests to big up any challenges to Celtic in order to generate more interest and excitement.

We know they are real challengers but they are trying to sell a product after all.

Anyway, anyone know when the ACTUAL new top will be released?
