Contracts are not optional

392

That whole ‘We don’t do walking away’ without a payoff business looks a little different this morning.  Dave King has told the media Derek Llambias and Barry Leach are ‘demanding’ a payoff.  It would be more likely that they have informed King of the terms of their contracts, which is all they are able to demand.  Under the circumstances, it would be extraordinary if either ‘walked away’ from their contracts.

Contracts of employment are not optional.  Terms have to be honoured, even if the employees’ services are no longer required, as I’m sure Mr Llambias’ solicitor will inform him when he discusses King’s threat to sue him for EGM costs.  This easy-come, easy-go attitude to contracts is, well, shameless.

For what it’s worth, my money is on Llambias and Leach resigning in the hours before the EGM, once they have ensured business is sorted.  This is the scenario King wanted, there’s no point complaining now it’s playing out.

World Autism Day

After their successful work with Downs Syndrome children, the homeless and many disadvantaged groups, next month the Celtic Foundation will embark on work with children with autism.  A pilot project is currently being designed which will work to enhance each child’s wellbeing.

Autism is described in terms of a ‘spectrum’ as it includes people who live independently to those who require very specialised support on a daily basis.  Recent decades have seen enormous improvements in understanding of the condition and on strategies to help, especially in children, which is where this pilot project comes in.

World Autism Day is 2 April and on that day the Foundation is holding its inaugural Golf Day (11 years behind the magnificent CQN Open) at Renfrew Golf Club.  The event is supported by Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallacher (who will not be playing) and a host of former Celtic players (who will be playing).

It’s a great initiative for the Foundation, reaching out into a new and important area, so if you’re a golfer and will enjoy a day on the course with friends and former players, go here to book.

I agree with most of what you say…. some of the warrior kits were/are honking!

Part of the problem is we want the tradition, but we want something new and fresh …. a hard balance to achieve. And, like many others, I have my favourite old strips and still wear them (at least, those ones which still fit me!).

If for no reason other than to wind up the zombies, for the new away kit, I would go with the Woflburg away kit … the st. andrews cross on a green background. Quite like it.

Interesting to see what the $$$ are, don’t know that we would be in a strong enough bargaining position like Liverpool are to make any demands, as long as it’s a record deal then that’s all you can ask.

16:19: Rangers statement to stock exchange

The Company has been informed that its Nominated Adviser (“NOMAD”) does not believe that it can satisfy the London Stock Exchange in relation to its NOMAD obligations in respect of the appropriateness of the Company’s securities to be admitted to AIM, and therefore the NOMAD has resigned as Nominated Adviser to Rangers with immediate effect.

Accordingly Rule 1 of the AIM rules for Companies will apply, and trading in the Company’s AIM securities will be suspended with immediate effect. If the Company is not able to restore trading within one month, admission of the Company’s securities to AIM will be cancelled.

If requested during the suspension period WH Ireland is willing to assist the Company to implement the necessary changes for WH Ireland or another Nomad to become satisfied as to the Company’s appropriateness for AIM. If a Nominated adviser is appointed it may apply to the London Stock Exchange on behalf of the Company for trading to be restored.

The Directors are disappointed that this event has had to take place despite the considerable efforts they have made over the last few weeks and months against the backdrop of the general meeting requisition and wish also to record their appreciation to their outgoing NOMAD for all it has done for the Club.

  21. A NOMAD is unlikely to resign with such short notice and without an orderly handover to a new adviser unless they believe that there are very serious issues with the company’s shares. I think this could well be the straw that we have anticipated for some time. It’s bitter sweet if this is the end as I was looking forward to thumping them again from next season.

Fr Murphy was in tonight. I have not felt too bad today, although I notice the energy beginning to drain. But it is quite early yet. I got showered today and had my hair cut, which made me feel quite good. Ten years younger, the boys joke, but I feel twenty years older, the inevitable consequence of eight years of torture and imprisonment.

I am abreast with the news and view with utter disgust and anger the Reagan/Thatcher plot. It seems quite clear that they intend to counteract Russian expansionism with imperialist expansionism, to protect their vital interests they say.

What they mean is they covet other nations’ resources. They want to steal what they haven’t got and to do so (as the future may unfortunately prove) they will murder oppressed people and deny them their sovereignty as nations. No doubt Mr Haughey will toe the line in Ireland when Thatcher so demands.

Noticed a rarity today: jam with the tea, and by the way the Screws are glaring at the food. They seem more in need of it than my good self.
