Contrast between SPFL and EFL will benefit Scottish clubs

879

Earlier this month we discussed the English Football League, where Championship clubs are in particular danger.  Unlike the SPFL there is little leadership from “the centre”.  Clubs and the League hope to complete the season and only yesterday published a plan on what to do in the event that is not possible.

Completing the season will require investment in blanket testing which will cost hard-up clubs millions of pounds, players would need to be taken off furlough (where applicable) weeks before games are played, and there will be zero ticket money generated.

All this helps clubs, fans and everyone else feel better about the sporting integrity of their competitions, but it will only compound the financial crisis afflicting the sport if they undertake the process and, as is very possible, some or all clubs need to isolate due to positive tests.  This could lead to a later curtailment of the league, with unnecessary illness (or worse) and cost.

The contrast with the SPFL is stark.  The Scottish League took medical and legal advice and went on the front foot with a strong recommendation to clubs, which was overwhelmingly supported.  These decisions are horrible and inevitably unfair on someone, but good leadership means you need to make yourself unpopular at times.

What happens with the English Premiership is largely immaterial to Scottish football.  Our more immediate competitors occupy the leagues below.  This is where Scottish clubs have lost most of their talent to.  There will be opportunities for Scottish clubs as a consequence of how the two leagues reacted to the crisis.  Keep your eye on what happens here.

Your situation makes my life seem wonderful. Keep on keeping on. Do you keep in contact with PF Ayr?

I checked last night and special advisors (spads) are treated as temporary civil servants and paid for by the taxpayer (I assume only in government).

The article I read reckons Cummings is paid around £100k per year – and that’s paid by us – the general tax paying populus that he treats with total contempt.

I feel that fact should be more widely publicised…

My main point is that Celtic FC are not Party to the 5 Way Agreement.

An agreement which, in its’ final signed form, none of us on here at least have actually seen.

Others might feel that to be less important, but I think we have got the point where we need to know the actual wording, especially when the SPL gave just over twelve hours to respond, on pain that a “separate accommodation (will be made) with the SFA and SFL which will not include the SPL….”.

    Celtic Mac,

As soon as PL became aware of the contents he became party to it, he is/was responsible to represent Celtic, if he done nothing then he condoned it by default, and that he was asked to review and raise any concerns before the stated time limit makes him a direct party regardless of him not being a signatory.

That was/is the whole point of appropriate person, he had the authority to halt or change it, else he would not have been copied in.

From the wee wee hours as Frank used to sing.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I think the exact wording of the 5WA is important, especially if it prevents or prevented further examination of the events-timeline covered by Resolution 12. Paul talked about ethics in Sport a week or two back, and I disagree with him on that, but is it possible to write an agreement which specifically prevents sanctions being taken against Parties responsible for rule breaking and or the Parties responsible for the rules.

  10. WDH,

So you are in hospital? I wouldn’t be able to visit with current restrictions – i am also supporting my mother who is high risk.

Do you have any family or friends who you can call to cheer you up?

  11. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Celtic Mac,

In your reply to Auldheid, have you never heard of Turing queens evidence?

Agreement like that are common so if they can do it in the criminal courts do you hones.y believe they can’t do it in quangos

  12. canamalar

Have to disagree with you there Can. Eric Reilly represented Celtic FC on the SPL, no?

Peter Lawwell may well be party to a version of the 5WA, but Celtic FC are not Party to that agreement.

    Celtic Mac,

Pretty sure ER reported back to the Celtic board, no?

As I said, as soon as the email landed with PL then he legally became a party, regardless of your wanting to excuse him his part.

    We need a whistle blower!

    Or then again maybe not….

  15. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Celtic Mac,

The whistle blower eleased the emails, only cognitive dissonance allows people to say our board had no part n it.

  17. WDH I don’t do any social media, apart from Watsapp. If you have a modern type of phone, could you not install this and have some video calls? It is very easy to use and is not intrusive at all. This has been a lifesaver for me over the last few months. Hope things improve for you.

Just on mate you Keep in touch

    Voguepunter- happy birthday

Celticmac- do you think you could be aware of the 5wA* ? Though not act on it in any way as a club?

In that I am saying PL was aware of 5wa*?DD would be too, hence majority shareholder DD and others ensures the ‘democracy’ roolz in shareholder stakes,res12 and it’s evidence left for history to decide why our club did not pursue it’s own shareholders(those who funded Fergus vision)

The whole tenure of minty is called to question.the events of 2012 shows the extent the sfa will go to protect its ‘works team’s

I would feel Celtic are always reacting to,and probably will be for a time to the downright gokkiness and masonic cover

Used in ‘sfa’ law to deny res12 both pre and post 2012.

    * call it the 2 rangers’s agreement.rfc deid(all 100 pence) and the ‘excuse’ since!!) The league bodies would expendable going for sfa

Hope all’s good,I need to phone the doldrums this week :-))

  20. Who could replace Damien Duff ,me personally either Shaun Maloney or Charlie Mulgrew, also

I watched a few clips of Celtic on You Tube,I not a few times how Fraser Foster was a bit slow in getting down to stop the ball going into the back off the net, also punching the ball out off a crowded penalty area ,he isn’t to clever with his punch outs either,So

When I thought about it ,he isn’t at the races as the first team Goalkeeper ,that says it all for me ,Southampton don’t fancy him,and to be honest neither do I,and Bhoys it’s all about opinions.
