Copa America took a turn for the better for Celtic last night. Cameron Carter-Vickers’ second half appearance was not enough to prevent USA from losing to Panama. That result leaves both sides on three points going into the final group game. The USA face Uruguay (two wins from two) in their final game while Panama play Bolivia (two defeats from two).
The final group games take place on Tuesday, so Cameron could be back home to cast his vote on Thursday. Let’s hope.
Alistair Johnston’s Canada need a point against Chile on Sunday to progress to the quarter finals. Canada have the advantage as they got a better result against Peru but Chile are favourites to win. It would be good to see both defenders home soon.
Sead Haksabanovic is one of a procession of wingers who passed through Parkhead gates over the last decade without leaving much of an impression behind. At 25, he is still young enough to make a good career in the game, but as with all players, he needs a run of games. Hopefully he’ll get that at Malmo.

A Cleese on toast debate ? That is a step to far…coming up to the walking season 😜

Strachan some of his Celtic team selections drove me up the wall.
What I would say as a fans man was brilliant around that time i was always down getting tops signed for my bhoys teams auctions etc. Some of the players would walk out with two cups of coffee “sorry cant sign hands full” Wee Strachan would go on bus drag them bag off and make them sign kids stuff a wee Legend in that respect. Lennon player and Hartson from what i remember were also brilliant with the fans. Sutton and Thompson in particular not so.
AT – it’s a bit like pornography: difficult to define but you know it when you see it.
The faux outrage over our manager’s “good girl” comment by people who go out of their way to find offence in everything and anything is a perfect example.
Been saying for ages, all this talk of signing” Quality players”,BRs own words, are not so easily attainable,if the will is not there to spend the money.I dont just mean the club.We are now getting fans,Bloggers, saying, this ones too expensive, would not pay the money for him. Some who have been screaming for quality.
Yesterday,James Forrest scotched the idea of bringing back Jota.Why?.He is not wanted there, and available. This seems to be the attitude for many.To think he will be looking for the same money is ridiculous. He will get a massive pay off there, and resume his career. Why not try?.
I said couple of weeks ago, with the cas being taken in so far, cash expected to come in,we will be over £ 30 million up,without touching CL money.Sell MOR,probably on the cards, thats£ 60 million.
If not now,we never will aspire to move up,so next time BR mentions quality, dont get your hopes up.
Idah Bernardo Jota Beck and top goal keeper and good understudy and we need a few capable squad players McCowan and Miller would be my idea of a good inbound transfers.
Video: John Keane – forever regarded as one of Celtic’s saviours https://thecelticstar.com/video-john-keane-forever-regarded-as-one-of-celtics-saviours/
John Keane Celtic Legend RIP
MAESTRO- agree,we’re going to need a big squad this season, probably the only 2 SPFL players I would go for
We need good squad players aswell as first team capable of getting us crucial points in Europe would the Aberdeen striker and free Scott McKenna also he worth adding also.
Yes
Woke is a term used and overused by GB News, the Mail & Telegraph to describe people who criticise racists and misogynists.
They invent and exaggerate examples just as they did when they invented the EU wanting to unbend our British Bananas.
Absolutely nobody is prevented from calling people Male or Female. Absolutely no-one has been cancelled because of using binary terms. Criticised and praised, yes , but not cancelled. No one has been stopped from calling it Christmas or using historical terms like binmen. The workers and management in the industry may prefer a different term but they don’t refuse to lift your bins because you use the old term.
There is much more printed dross and TV dross complaining about imagined “woeness” than there is of people asserting their right to woeness.
If someone wants to self identify as they/them or cat you have 3 choices.
Go along with them and respect their wishes
Disagree with them and call them male or female as you see it.
Or just ignore it and don’t interact with them at all.
You cannot be cancelled for disagreeing with someone or disrespecting them or offending them. It happens to you and me every day.
The Provost of Inverclyde apologised because he is up for election and needs to maintain his job and get elected next time. He didn’t apologise because hie would lose his job- whatever that is (outside of Provosting).
JK Rowling & Graham Lineman have faced lots of criticism and harassment for their vies on binary gender- views I have a good deal of sympathy with- but neither has been cancelled. JK still gets her books published and bought. Graham still gets Father Ted and IT Crowd shown on repeats telly.
They get slagged on twitter by people who disagree and , like many on twitter it goes far too far, even to death threats.
No two people can agree what woke is, or what is a snowflake or what is a gammon.
Like most insults they just mean- “Things I don’t personally like’
BTW- what’s wrong with straight bananas?
Jobcentre have a few vacancies for straight banana benders
Good morning CQN (just about).
I’ll make an evidence free prediction here.
We won’t sign anyone before the Euros are over.
I’ll look out my Fyfe Straighteners
If bananas were straight it would be easier to share one equally between two people. :)
Just trying to start a banana debate to had to the toasted / roasted cheese and square sausage debates.
Haven’t had a mass debate for ages. 😃

SFTB, I suspect Graham Linehan may disagree…
“In interviews in 2022 and 2023, Linehan said the debate over transgender issues had “consumed his life”: it had lost him work, made him financially destitute, and ended his marriage. He said the Father Ted musical, on which he had been depending financially, was cancelled when the production company decided his involvement would make it impossible to stage”
Cancel culture remains, though I admit I am confused over some of the definitions.
All I know is I wish the 2 Ronnies, Brass Eye, Monty Python would be on tv more often.
Back to Basics
I’ll predict there will be two signings before the end of the Euros. I doubt we’ll be signing anyone from the squads of France, England, Spain, Germany or Italy so the continuation of the Euros has little effect on where we are shopping.
Tournament Scouting is daft anyway. Anyone that we spot playing well at a Euro, WC or South America finals has their transfer value automatically inflated. The time to spot the promising players is before they are exposed at Tournament level, otherwise you end up buying El Hadj Diouf and the like who had a great WC but never delivered at club level.
Glenowen
I nominate you for the post of head of programming at the BBC.
Well well well

Man in “Tub thumping rabble rouser on the make is not what he seems” shocker.
Glenowen
Graham had not had a lot of success beyond Father Ted and IT Crowd anyway before this controversy took over. He may have had an Embra Fringe project cancelled by the company he was using but Graham appears there anyway to deliver a lecture on his gender views and that was well attended and paid for.
If this stuff took over his life, that was partly his choice, and I have strong doubts that it was any disagreement over gender terminology that ended a marriage.
BTW- you can still catch John Cleese on the so-called GB News channel (I think that’s how they self identify but we know that they are just a pile of shit pedallers- regardless of their preferred title). Trouble is John is not very funny on it. They have a show with “comedians” commenting on the news and I can confidently state that the only thing less funny than Woke Comedians are GB News comedians- genuinely- I’d rather watch Love Island (and I’ve never seen that show apart from in ads)
SFTB,
Im afraid you have not been reading the room.
Of course there is a cancel culture. There are numerous examples eg Roisin Murphy.
Many have tried to cancel JK Rowling. And they would if they could.
Nor so easy for rich privileged white men to cancel a former impoverished, left wing, single parent who is now extremely rich and has almost single handadly got a generation of children to read.
HH to you.
‘Just can’t get enough’ was the Anthem for the doomed Diouf
Wilfred Owen CSC
SFTB – cheers.
That thesis makes just as much sense if not more.
My view was based on the old trickle down model with no business getting done involving players at Euros during the competition
(I recall decades ago a World cup where the Brazilian coach maybe? complained that his training camp was full of agents disrupting his prep. It’s been locked down since)
As soon as Euros are done, I expect the circus to go into overdrive.
No evidence for this last bit but it feels to me that FSR is driving more coherent transfer activity which in turn provides more transfer opportunities across the board.
Back in the day, rich clubs signed superstars as a standalone transaction.
Similar to the salary cap in US sports, no one in football now signs a superstar without thinking about overall financial capacity …
… so wages need to be freed up and incoming transfer fees acquired.
Greenpinata
I was unfamiliar with Roisin’s case but I still see no cancelling.
One BBC show was taken off air but the BBC said “that the schedule change was not a reaction to Murphy’s comments, with a spokesperson commenting “Murphy has been played on 6 Music recently and her Artist Collection remains in rotation.”
Lots of people have backed her views on too-early use of puberty blockers and, indeed, the Government’s official report by Dr. Hilary Cass, an eminently sensible report critical of the Tavistock Institute on this very issue, backed Roisin’s comments, which she appears to have apologised for anyway.
Back to Basics
I agree there will be a lot of transfers concluded after the Euros but that will be the clubs from the big leagues (not Celtic) waiting till players are not going to be accused of focusing on their career and not their country.
Celtic might have interest in some of the rarely used back up players from squads that won’t reach the quarter finals but we won’t be singing any Euorstars, that’s not our train of thought
Celtic must have all the ducks in a row we’ve known for a long time a new number 1 key priority and 5 weeks till flag day a big month with away to Hibs and Saint Mirren before derby day on week 4. All newbies must be acostmed to team mates and up to pace no excuses.

All …. pure hypothetical ….
Very Big Club buys a Euro 2024 participant from big club 1 for €50m – July week 3
Big club 1 replaces him with a signing from Big club 2 in another country for €35m – July week 4
Big club 2 sign a solid pro from medium size PL club in England e.g. Notts Forest for €25m – August week 1
Medium size club sign a prospect from a Championship club for €15m – August week 2
Championship club buy Mikey Johnston for €6m – August week 3
Celtic buy Adam Idah at a bit of a premium – August week 4

The recent spike in Celtic shares has increased Dermot Desmond’s holdings in Celtic to almost £90m.
He has put in £31m & taken out £7.4m in dividends, for a net contribution of £23.7m.
Not too shabby.

Martin O’Neill, already the new Celtic Manager worked as a TV panel pundit during the Euros in 2000, where he was impressed by Joos Valgaeren playing for Belgium. Joos signed for Celtic in July of that year.
Not like you to let the facts get in the way of your narrative.
Again
For me the transfer window is in 2 stages. We need bodies in for the start of the season in 2 key positions, goalkeeper and centre forward. I’d like to see them in place by mid-July at the latest. After that, we need to reinforce other areas (left back and left sided centre half for starters). We also need to be well placed to react to any leavers,
(MOR as an example).
In addition, we we should look to lose the likes of Bernabei, Mikey J, Welsh, Kobayashi, Oh ,Tilo, Kwon and one of Lagerbielke or Nawrocki.

Included in that “analysis” was the £7.9 mill ‘McCann shares repurchase’ by Dermot Desmond. Now look, unless I am mistaken, that share purchase did not put one thin dime into Celtic PLC. Similar to Joe Lewis £40 million (SMSM) “investment” into Rangers, which rather put said £40 mill into the Rag N Bone Man’s back pocket. Different though from the £20 mill investment by Dave King into Ayebrokes which based on the final BDO Creditors Report has ended up flushed down the famed Victorian lavvy.
