Copenhagen defended their way to the knockout round

173

Celtic travel to Copenhagen on 20 February for their next Europa League tie, with the return game in Glasgow a week later.  Copenhagen are behind Midtjylland in the Danish league and finished second in their Europa group, behind fellow-Scandinavians, Malmo.

They drew 1-1 home and away with Dynamo Kiev, who were eliminated, so although this is a welcome draw, we have two hard games ahead.

Bizarrely, Copenhagen never scored or conceded more than one goal in any of their six group games.  Three 1-1 draws, two 1-0 wins against Lugano, currently sixth in the Swiss table, and a 0-1 home defeat to Malmo saw them defend their way to the knockout stage.

Considering some of the names in the unseeded pot, we have to be happy with the draw.

Where do the PEOPLE get their information from before arriving at THEIR verdict?

    Must dash.

    Cheerio for now.

  3. Good morning CQN, we are currently experiencing the dangerous weather phenomenon known as freezing rain up here. The last time I experienced this was in Germany.

Full points from the next four games would set us up nicely. Let’s do it Celtic 🍀🍀🍀🍀

“Unexpected public figures leapt to his defence. Eric Clapton, the famed guitarist, expressed support for Powell on stage in 1976 and asked “foreigners” to leave.”

    ————————————

Erm, not sure he was asking.:-

“On 5th August 1976, Eric Clapton took to the stage at the Birmingham Odeon. This strange brew of a man was hitherto known as a slightly self-effacing virtuoso who liked a quiet life and had done his best to keep the peace while in Cream between the ever-warring Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. He was seen as a musician whose heroes included Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson; as someone who idolised Jimi Hendrix even as he tried to rival him in the late 1960s; as a brilliant guitarist who had rejected the noisy histrionics of rock God-dom in the 1970s in favour of a mellower, more reflective style. Tonight, however, somewhat the worse for wear, he had something on his mind. Something ugly and toxic.

“I used to be into dope, now I’m into racism,” he slurred. “It’s much heavier, man. F***ing wogs, man. F***ing Saudis taking over London. B***ard w**s. Britain is becoming overcrowded and Enoch will stop it and send them all back. The black w**s and c**ns and Arabs and f***ing Jamaicans don’t belong here, we don’t want them here. This is England, this is a white country, we don’t want any black w**s and c**ns living here… Enoch for Prime Minister! Throw the w**s out! Keep Britain white!”

    ——————————

Enoch was always careful to distance himself from such overt racism preferring a more “intellectual” approach of emphasising irrevocable cultural differences. He never ever condemned his followers no matter how far right or violent they became.

As for Michael Foot’s support, you are being extra disingenuous. He was praising Enoch’s oratorical skills. He was one of the finest public speakers of his generation. His cadence and sentence constructions were flawless and he was a much admired public speaker. I would endorse that view of Michael Foot’s.

Enoch was a great speaker and speechmaker in terms of grammatical construction. In terms of content, he was mealy mouthed, evasive and spewed poisonous rhetoric.

He was also dead wrong- there never were rivers of blood.

In the early 70’s, the National Front, the predecessors of the BNP who developed into UKIP, got 16% of the votes in a Midlands by-election and 23% in a ward in Blackburn local election. However its average share of votes was usually under 5%. It was a high water mark for fascist votes, their best since Mosley.

The modern far right does not go in for overt Nazism anymore. The modern racist is more polite and nuanced, but we are only ever a few steps away from slipping into Nazism again.

    Macjay..,

That’s the same number that voted in Venezuela that you support a military coup to overthrow. I suspect you only support democracy when the results suit you, Bolivia was a higher turn out.

Pompeo admitted that American resources were used to make sure Corbyn would not win the election. So can we be sure the election was free and democratic ?

    =====================================================================

    Democrats don`t support military coups.

You support the Cuban military coup , though.

And the Venezuelan military dictatorship .

Corbyn and Mc Donnell and Mc Cluskey made sure Corbyn could not win the election.

Good Morning from an almost tropical Dundee.

I was just discussing this very day with someone about freezing rain in Germany, and it was very scary indeed. Hope you are well, and stay safe.

Not sure that you were aware . I was quoting from Al Jazeera .

In the same way , Powell , a professor of Classics , ” Rivers of Blood ” was quoting from Virgil`s Aeneid .

You describe this as ” spewing poisonous rhetoric ” .

    Dead wrong you say .

    I can see Virgil`s point.

In particular , the slaughter on the London underground really truck a visual chord in that regard .

Fifty two were murdered . Many more recent atrocities.

How many do you need for a river ?

” Slipping into Nazism again ”

Yes. That`s the whole damn point. Ignore the perhaps misguided patriotism of some sections of your population and the Nazis will march again .

Ironic that the prime mover in that regard in recent years is a German who has imposed her ” open borders ” and ” come all ye ” on the rest of Europe , thereby nudging the far right into action.

That is now Europe`s problem and a large swathe of Europeans don`t like Merkel`s project being imposed on them.

Brexit was all about controlling our borders.

Perfect description of the hun today .

  11. Saw Malcolm Rifkind being interviewed by that moron Piers Morgan…he asked about Nicola Sturgeon being in a position to push for another Scottish referendum…Rifkind replied that the SNP only got 45% of the vote drawing a comparison to the original referendum whilst ignoring many voting patterns that Nicola Sturgeon acknowledged stating that not everyone that voted SNP would perhaps vote for independence just as others that voted for other parties would perhaps vote for independence .Rifkind conveniently ignored that the Conservatives got 43.6% of the vote and as is the norm in UK politics more people voted for parties other than that that forms the government so is this the “will of the people “? The GB were maybe wrong in singling out Rod but Rod was also maybe wrong our certainty misguided in tweeting his congratulations for Boris and must expect some flak for doing so.Celtic use the slogan “a club open to all ” we get what they mean but it’s a bit sill really…open to murderers ,rapists or the Hitlers and Stalins of this world…I hope not.People are entitled to vote for whoever they wish but personally (and it’s only my opinion ( I would much prefer Tories to support Rangers International Football Club.

I think that the ” open to all ” refers to employment practice rather than to the punters in the stands.

In contrast to the hun sectarian employment practices.

    Macjay,

Military dictatorship you say, in Venezuela?

Where as already pointed out over 67% voted. The incumbents won that election.

Since then, the US and their proxies have tried everything including military coup to remove the incumbents, murdered over 40000 using economic warfare that denies medical supplies being sent to the country, an illegal strategy they confirms a war.

I’ve never seen a military dictatorship allow its opposition so much freedom of movement and

    platform to spread their lies.

Unlike your preferred democratically elected government in Bolivia who are currently refusing opposition parties access to to parliament to vote on new laws being made up on the hoof, slaughtering anyone of the population who oppose them, oh wait they were not democratically elected were they but still it’s the kind of democracy you

Cuba, oh aye when they had a civil war, unlike the bloodless civil wars of the USA and England.

Everyone in Cuba votes for their representatives in Havana, they know the govt are limited on what can be provided during an economic war with the US. Even in those conditions there is no one who goes without food on the table, education and medical care, the best in the world.

Meanwhile your mandarins of democracy and freedom are run by bankers and arms dealers.

Run their countries to suit their agenda regardless of who is elected. Torture journalists and open concentration camps.

Where increasing numbers of children live below the absolute poverty line.

Aye your definition of freedom and democracy is a long way from what you claim it to be.
