POLICE SCOTLAND are investigating allegations a Hearts fan attempted to hit Celtic striker Scott Sinclair at Tynecastle yesterday.

The £3.5million signing from Aston Villa scored a late goal on his debut to give the Hoops a 2-1 win.

Sincalir ran in front of the home supporters on his way to celebrate with the champions’ away following and footage appears to show two fans making failed attempts to punch him.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a supporter attempted to confront a Celtic player within Tynecastle Stadium on Sunday August 7. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Hearts’ security and safety officer Phil O’Kane said: “I can confirm Hearts have been in contact with Police Scotland and this matter is now subject of a criminal investigation.

“Hearts will work closely with the police and provide all relevant information to identify the culprits.

“The club will also apply appropriate sanctions against those involved as this type of behaviour will never be tolerated at Tynecastle and such persons are not welcome at our ground.”
