Cough up for Killie

944

The SFA, SPL and SFL confirmed revelations yesterday that they met at Hampden on Friday evening and released a 126 word joint statement.  It claimed “all three parties have been involved in productive discussions for some time on the subject of league reconstruction”.

Be that as it may, you could put your house on the fact that there would be no talk of hastily-arranged league reconstruction in the next few weeks if there remained a possibility that SPL clubs would vote a Newco into the league at their meeting on 4 July.

Disingenuous: lacking in frankness, candour or sincerity.

There is no mention of subverting every rule in the game to ensure a team called ‘Rangers’ are positioned in as high a league system as possible.  The statement is completely disingenuous.  Having lost the battle to parachute Newco-Rangers into the SPL, Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster have redrawn the battle lines.

Celtic supporters are the great cash cow that is expected to pay for the crimes of others.  It’s up to you if you want to Cough up for Killie (etc.).

I note with sadness that there are still some of us happy to shout ME, ME, ME at the start of each of Paul’s articles, without even having read the article.

In most cases this will not matter.

Every so often, as has already happened, the article may contain a tragedy for one of us.

I understand that nobody intends any disrespect.

Imagine that Paul’s piece is telling us about a family member’s demise.

Is it really OK to br shouting ME,ME, ME without realising the gravity of the article.

    I know.

    I am an old killjoy.

Believe me, that is not my intention.

  2. Have to say a bit disappointed with posts attacking other teams who are not really like-for-like rivals.

It does Celtic a lot of favours to be gracious in victory and not seek revenge or malice especially with teams with a fraction of the wealth creation as ourselves.

Frankly I don’t give a damn what happens to Kilmarnock, but that doesn’t mean I wish them any more ill will than say Dundee or Morton or Montrose.

I also believe Celtic attacking fans of the wee teams is no help to the no to newco argument, especially so as the vote has not been taken yet and all it will make us look like to other the teams is green huns, with as much arrogance, grace and charm as a lecture from Green, Jardine and McOist.

Defeat from the jaws of victory. Lets hope not!

    Paul,

I’m all for league reconstruction and would expect as we are only now being advised of these proposals for wholesale changes to the structure of our game then an appropriate period of consultation will be entered into. I’m sure everyone will understand the dangers of rushing anything through before, say, season 2014/15.

What those in charge seem unaware of is that by taking the steps they are attempting to take they are saying that “Rangers” are so important to our game they are above the law that governs the game.

This perception will be applied to every refereeing decision in their favour because referees are part of the same authority that are doing their best not to order off a club who have committed the equivalent of a deliberate leg breaking tackle by a Joey Barton type player.

What is the point of an SPL2 if those in charge set it up just so that SPL1 is deprived of one if its main income streams for as short a time as possible?

    .

It dooms SPL2 before a ball is kicked and, if after 4 years UEFA money becomes essential for Newco then in SPL1, then SPL1 experiences the same refereeing contagion it did from 2009.

This is why the detoxification Alex T speaks of is so important because without it the game will always be poisoned and those in charge are now administering the poison rather than removing it.

I believe there is a massive failure at the SFA to stand back and take a truly strategic view of what they are trying to achieve and the thinking behind the setting of that goal.

For example since dubiety of refereeing from an injection of Newco into SPL2 is a huge risk to SPL2s success then the proposal for an SPL2 start should contain further proposals that gives fans some belief that steps like I described last June* are being taken to protect the integrity of SPL2 and later SPL1.

My opinion for what it is worth is the SFA as an organisation are out of their competence depth and need to bring in very swiftly governance expertise to bridge the competence/skill gap and provide the strategical perceptive that internal parties simply do not have. I think McLeish said that in his report but it is now self evident.

    * LAST June I suggested a step that would go some way to addresing the inevitable perception that referees were simply instruments of a SFA “Save Rangers” policy rather than upholders of the laws of the game and that was to set up a professional REFEREEING SERVICE that separates the monitoring and rewards for performance from the supply and allocation of referees. There would be public reporting of said performance with consistency of application of the laws from game to game one of the performance measures. Through that refs who applied the rules properly and consistently would be better rewarded than those who do not.

Of course this might highlight inconsistency that indicates favouritism on the part of a particular referee for a particular team, but a behaviour observed changes just by being observed.

Summing up the SFA have not got the message Rangers have killed our game and need to realise that for it to stand any chance of survival they have no option but to apply the rules, and if they cannot they must leave but even if they can, they must look at their mishandling of the situation from the 2000 to date, rectify processes then leave.

Now they are deid you can still play pass the parcel when watching live games on tv with your mates. A fiver each in a beer tumbler and you hold it till the ball goes out for a goal kick throw in or corner. Once the balls out you pass it on. Whoever is holding it when the first goal goes in keeps the cash. Does crank up the excitement somewhat. Especially if theres a right few of you in it.

Please don’t forget that when they died so did the O/F label, the biggest obstacle to us been accepted into English football. Now we are not viewed as a package and will be judged on our own merits I have a gut feeling that there was more self preservation panic on the agenda than ‘what must be done for the good of Scottish football’ tripe we are being fed.

How often have we been invited down for testimonials and compare our party atmosphere compared to the blitz of Manchester.

Celtic would be good for English football and personally I have nothing but apathy for the beaks of Scottish football. Duff and Phelps may get another few homers before we have a conclusion.

  21. Paul I share your disdain at the fact that this meeting/these meetings have taken place at all, but I’m not entirely sure that the sensible conclusion is that this will all be rushed thriugh successfully. There is an absolutely MASSIVE amount of administration work to get done to put such changes in place; every professional club in Scotland would have to be at a meeting (meetings?) where the procedures were discussed; there would eventually have to be a vote taken, where there are proscribed timings wihich woukld have toi be adhered to; various companies have agreements with associations/leagues/clubs based on the status quo; and ALL the indications are that clubs up and down the country are fed up with the ‘Rangers’ as were or as are and would be unlikely to vote through the proposals.

I agree entirely with you that the thinking behind the meetings is to aid the ailing Hun, but with the fixtures for ALL the leagues having already been published I just can’t see this going through. Quite why Raygun and Dungchucker are doing this at all does baffle me, mind you.

    I did read the article.

I remember the ocassion you speak of when the ME,ME,ME shouter never read the article, cannot remember who it was and dont really care, they then apologised for any offence they caused.

Then a few posters, having not taken the time to read back or they would have read the apology, started having a go at the ME,ME,ME shouter for being ‘childish’ and being disrespectful.

Since then the ME,ME,ME shouting has gone on.

To me its a harmless bit of fun that most enjoy it for what it is.

I think this analogy covers it.

Frank Sinatra and his backing 11 man band go on a tour and they are contracted to support each other for a given fee.

Frank cannot hire another band during the tour. Without Frank there is no tour, no payment to the band.

No agreement, no tour nobody gets a penny. As the only swinger in town Celtic now are in a good position to negotiate on the same lines Frank would have. He gets the majority of income for drawing in the fans, the band get a share because without them Frank could not perform.

  25. Maybe I’m missing something but what do people want the new SPL to look like, and forget for now about the new huns, they won’t be in it.

Do people think it will just carry on as normal?

We only held the power because of the “old firm” pact, but we wanted the huns dead and it happened but that now leaves us vulnerable. We can’t help kill the huns then expect everything to carry on as normal.

  26. When WE were close to extinction, the ‘establishment’ was going hell for leather to crucify us.

Now that the most despised club in the world is dead, the same ‘establishment’ wants us to pay for that?

Time for our legal eagles to act if this becomes a de facto proposition.
