COUTO CELTIC D-DAY

ANGE POSTECOGLOU will know within the next 72 hours if Manchester City right-back Yan Couto will become his sixth major signing for the club.

The Brazilian defender was a guest of the Hoops at the 3-0 Europa League win over Jablonec on Thursday night.

Couto was impressed by all accounts as a near-capacity crowd roared on Postecoglou and his new-look team, according to a report in the Sunday Mail.

The Greek-Australian manager has promised more new faces before the transfer deadline in 16 days’ time and the City youngster is wanted initially on a loan deal.

The full-back could be on his way to join goalkeeper Joe Hart, defender Carl Starfelt, midfielder James McCarthy, winger Liel Abada and striker Kyogo Furuhashi as Postecoglou’s revamp takes shape.

The 19-year-old highly-rated prospect was on the substitutes’ bench for Pep Guardiola’s side’s Community Shield defeat to Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City at Wembley last weekend.

Spanish side Girona are also in the hunt for Couto and they have a direct link to the Etihad as they are a feeder club for the English champions. The player spent last term at the La Liga outfit.

Coincidentally, they arranged a loan swoop for former Parkhead fans’ favourite Patrick Roberts in 2018 after his two-and-a-half years came to an end in Glasgow.

Portuguese outfit Sporting Braga, who lost 2-1 at home yesterday to 10-man Sporting Lisbon, are also monitoring the situation.

Postecoglou is hoping Couto’s temporary transfer can be rubberstamped within the next three days.
