Covering Emilio, Ledley returns

507

Delighted Joe Ledley got on the score sheet twice yesterday.  As well as missing the influence of Wanyama, and Scott Brown on Champions League duty, Joe’s absence through injury has been felt.  He has been back a few weeks now but Neil Lennon has used him sparingly, putting a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of Beram Kayal and Charlie Mulgrew.  For me, Joe’s composure and running deserves place in the team.

Ross County have dropped like a stone recently, even when you consider their abandoned matches, but they successfully pressed high up the field for long periods of the game.  When Celtic do this in Europe we are always concerned about opposing teams passing through us with speed.  It was a bit concerning that we could not do the same to County.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the performance of Emilio Izaguirre.  Neil Lennon went on record in the summer to say he needed cover for left back, which is still the case, but at the time ‘cover’ was interpreted in places for an admission that Emilio’s form was not what it once was.

We are incredibly strong at right back, with internationals Adam Matthews and Mikel Lustig vying for the position, while Nigeria’s right back, Efe Ambrose, occupies a different position at Celtic, but Emilio has no obvious left-footed cover.

Following the loss of St John Doyle, George Ryan, Lennybhoy sent £1534.30 on your behalf to the Mini St John Doyle Fund, now officially launched as Sean’s Trust.  George’s wife, Linda, responded with this message:

“George’s fantastic friends at Celtic Quick News have this evening donated £1,534.30 into the account for our charity Sean’s Trust. This money has been raised since George’s death on 5 October. Also they paid for 4 seats at Celtic Park for the family to attend the Ajax game, and sent beautiful floral tributes.

“Most of the supporters on CQN had never met George in person. Paul Brennan from CQN visited me after George’s death and he said ‘It takes a lifetime to make a Celtic Man like George’ What a beautiful tribute. We are grateful for the immense effort you have all made in memory of George. We will never forget you x.”

There are never any real compensations on occasions of such loss, but your efforts connected with, and supported, a family, at a time when that was as much as anyone could do for them.

Thank you to everyone who participated, especially Lennybhoy, for picking up the ball.

    The green man,

The corruption is so ‘deep’ it can only be removed by the removal of the corrupt root, and oldco are ‘removed’……I know, they don’t want to believe that and have, therefore, introduced a tribute act……which is also on it’s way out…….

They will not survive zombies 2 …….. And when the s hits the fan for a second time, there will be a rye smile on the face of every Celtic Board Member …….. Our policy has been not to disturb the enemy while they are destroying themselves….

(That is my assessment of the situation, and I would just like someone to prove me wrong, please)

    Stringer @ 18.32,

Despite what Coyle says about the injury it’s neither here nor there.McClean states categorically he would not be wearing a poppy.

    ——-

Actually, it is 100% relevant. The story circulating was he was dropped by his club.

Read back and see Coyle and Wheelan begin to take stick and criticism on this blog from some posters. The original story was not true.

I think the powder has been dry for too long…they with the help of their friends have subverted the very nature of football for a long long time…id guess at least 100 years…think about that

Its time to expose them publicly or it will go on as usual.

And don’t think they wont be back, because they will be….and debt free

So, I think its in Celtic’s interest to see the end of them for ever….we are a champions league team, and that’s the way it should be….expose corruption without fear, its the only way.

  7. Appears some of the WBA players- including Shane Long- did not wear a poppy on the jersey yesterday.

Looks like it was left to personal choice?

Any story which is factually incorrect is a problem imo. That story could well turn some people against Owen Coyle. It also suggests that he is influenced by things other than ability when picking his team.

  9. hi, will post again my son who is a man utd fan the reason his dad did not make him a celtic fan is because of scottish football,i dont want him growing up knowing he is being cheated and paying for the privilege of it and the frustration of knowing it, if is any one with

a genuine mirror have a look at it, who are some fans kidding are leaders know what has went on and if not accepting of it are not going to rock there nice we earner, sorry folks its jusy my opinion. i dont want an argument with any one its how i see it.

  10. The only ones who know the full truth about the James McLean poppy affair are McLean himself and the Wigan club.

It may well be that McLean is suffering from what a Scottish journalist described as ‘the tyranny of the poppy’.

In the last decade or so, the wearing of the poppy changed from being a symbol of respectful remembrance to a Norman Tebbit like test of patriotism. (One could fill a book with interpretations of patriotism and loyalty)

Regretfully, for one brought up in a Labour household, this prostitution of the remembrance poppy accelerated when, in a risible attempt to make himself electable, Gordon Brown decided it prudent to make himself more South British than the South British.

    Stringer at 18.36,

You are correct in saying he wasn’t dropped.

However,I did say it was it was neither here nor there.McClean stated he wouldn’t wear a poppy last year nor this year. It’s open to question then what would have happened if he was fit.

  16. Evening all. Watched the game on Celtic TV. I thought Pukki, James Forrest and Nir Biton all played well. Our CH strolled through the game. I know they play in different positions, and I thought Big Vic was a great player, but Virgil van Dijk is simply different class. Best footballing CH I have seen in a Celtic jersey for a long, long time. He never seems flustered and always has time.

And I haven’t mentioned the young lhad, Fisher. He looks the part too. Now, let’s give Rogic a chance to show what he has to offer. We really need a class creative midfielder. If we can find a poacher, we’ve the makings of a right good, entertaining team.

The Celtic board are desperate for Sevco to be in the top flight because of the money it will generate. They couldn’t give a stuff about the years of cheating or how we the fans feel about it.

  20. Should have added in previous post.

Leaving aside DDs quoted out of context/misquoted or even acurately reported remarks about THEIR great history’

Only a couple of weeks ago, PL on the matter of fitting and proper person going on THEIR board, PL said that in light of THEM being Celtic’s greatest rivals, he would have to consider his position should the matter come before the SFA.

In my innocence, I thought all member clubs of the SFA were Celtic’s rivals.

So why the difference when it comes to THEM.

  22. danso-1888 @19.07hrs,

Each to their own and you and your son certainly have the right to choose, but if everyone was of the same opinion there would be no great European nights revered by all and sundry and no CQN. We have the best supporters and atmosphere in Europe –bar none and hopefully in the not too distant future we will ply our trade in a league more befitting of our status. ( I can but hope )

We would all be heading down to Manchester eating prawn sandwiches to avoid being cheated by Scottish football and instead watching cheats, cue Ashley Young,

Celtic is much more than just a football club and it seems a shame to deprive your son of what the Celtic family and ethos mean.

Noone other than sevco ( and the LL) can claim credit for their demise…….after all they should have learned from the oldco experience…HH

  24. One thing I don’t understand regards our board allegedly being keen to have Sevco back in the top flight seemingly for financial reasons is this: They come back and they will and we’ll maybe benefit from that to the tune of maybe a couple of million per season but probably nowhere as high as that? Once back they will again cheat us out of huge sums of CL money, maybe 15 to 20 million pounds per season.. You can put money on that. So. Why would our board want them back.

And please don’t insult me by saying for financial reasons.

  25. Brief visit. Delighted with performance yesterday, thought Izzy and Virgil were sensational. Fisher looks like a good one and was pleased with Pukki & Biton. The last transfer window may not have been such a disaster after all. Hail Hail James McClean l back you 100%.

Don’t understand how some posters seem to be making their ongoing support of Celtic conditional on the Boards actions. If the Board steps seriously out of line certainly organise protests etc. but never stop supporting the team.

  26. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

Can’t see Ashley Young lasting at Man U …….fit in well at sevco …think of the penalties he’d get …

  27. For the shrewd punters on this site.

    Liverpool for EPL at 12/1.

They will take advantage of the other challengers being stretched in European competitions.

Is that a doughnut or a Merringue?

  28. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

The five way agreement was unprecedented. All the rules and regulations were bent to accomodate them. So why did the plc not speak out then ? We were told by those in permanent denial that it was to entrap those who were doing Sevcos bidding. Yet Campbell is elected unopposed. Doncaster gets the job with the new body, the SPFL and gets his salary increased as amazingly does Stewart Reagan. The Rangers also get full voting rights having never produced any accounts. Longmuir falls on his sword and gets 400k. These funds are covered by Celtic contributing 1m to the new league ?

Celtic plc issue the pulitzer prize statement that they are “surprised” that LNS accepts Sandy Brysons explanation that everything was above board.

A few months later the plc issue yet another statement saying they are satisfied that the SFA handled Rangers correctly with regards the small tax case.

On Friday they need to prove it.

    Or do they ?
