Covid, isolating and our European jeopardy

284

A St Mirren player tested positive for Covid and now a Hamilton player is self-isolating after ”coming into close contact with a player from another club who has tested positive”, presumably the unnamed St Mirren player.  Due to their age, footballers are largely immune to the worst dangers of Coronavirus, but you can see where the jeopardy lies for clubs.

If St Mirren are able to stop the disease spreading to the rest of the squad it is a testament to their safety procedures, but it is likely many others at the club were in close proximity to the player during the incubation period.

This is going to be a feature of the season; players will be required to isolate, some fixtures will be postponed.  In Europe, it will be different.  Our Europa League qualifier two weeks from today cannot be postponed by more than a couple of days.  The final qualifier is three weeks today, between now and then every precaution must be taken to limit exposure for the players and backroom staff.

With pubs open for business to show Saturday’s Ross County – Celtic game, the need to run tests to learn what is achievable has never been greater.  Cancelling controlled tests with no more than 300 spectators, where every piece of medical and scientific evidence assures us would all be entirely safe, would be classic bad government.  We need to test practically every aspect of society for its health implications.

That’s a bit of a stretch – do you think Neil uses substitutions well both in who and when.

Great shout re McGeady. He’d be a stick on for a glorious swan song i think, and at not much cost, relatively speaking. He’d absolutely terrorise the huns. Not sure he and Lennon seen eye to eye though. Love to see it happen.

back then it was county leagues and the odd test match you could keep an eye on.with the ‘oneday’ cup

nowadays I don’t know with the 20/20,50 and 20overs and the Indian “money” league I am kinda not as up with as I was.but i did enjoy a beer on the veranda watching it

  4. Given the way the youths and the reserves seem to be all heading out on loan — will there be a reserve league this season?

Will there be any youth leagues this season?

The youth and reserve set up would not appear to be at its best at the moment.

I thought St Ninians was going to be the making of us.

Not a cheap headline at all.Aberdeen, and a Celtic player were seriously out of order. We were just trying to get the league up and running for Gods sake. The punishments dished out were very light, and a well timed shot across the bows.If no action had been taken, who knows where we would be today.A free for all.”Well they did it,how am I getting punished and they did’nt

    ________

We were told the Celtic and Aberdeen games would be held off as a ‘precaution’ not as a punishment

Id have more respect for those involved if they just came out and said it was a punishment

Not sure I agree with punishing a club and its fans for the actions of an individual though

  6. When it was 3 subs we didn’t hanndle it well.

That seems to have continued when we moved to 5.

One issue that is probably even bigger is the number of players in big games that came off injured before half time.

And then there is all the KT chat to put into the mix — injured players being pressured to play with injections to their long term detriment.

Are we really that far behind on the medical front at CP?

I fear we have Sylvester Stallone running on with a Gladstone bag.

    That would be Frank Stagg.

I remember talking to a guy in the Tollbooth who said he was one of the party who disintered him.

No idea if he was telling the truth but he struck me as genuine.

    I’m advocating Aiden

    You’re denigrating Neil

Summit about his use of substitutes was it?

  9. CELTIC MAC on 10TH SEPTEMBER 2020 7:16 PM

Ten years older but vastly more experienced Aiden McGeady would offer far more over the next season or two than Patrick Roberts. I wouldn’t have said that when Brendan was in charge but I’m saying it now.

No, no, thrice no. Aiden has been in eve greater freefall than Paddy.

Never go back. Plenty of new Aidans and Paddys out there. I think we’ll get ourselves a new belter.

I reckon that the age profile of former Labour voters who switched to the Tories over Brexit means that they will be less numerous at the next election, so between that and Brexit having become a reality those red wall seats may be back in the mix.

As for the SNP they would have no alternative but to support a minority Labour government if the alternative was the Tories.

  14. What is it with former players who left for a reason.?

Have we on CQN no imagination ? I hope our scouts have some. 😀

  15. An Tearmann…btw that ‘Celtic FC’ stained glass is now on the wall in the corridor behind the reception…

Earlier today we said farewell to my Aunt Nan Phee, 90 years of age, from Summerlee, Coatbridge. Nan was daft for the Celtic and god help anyone spoke when she was listening to Celtic on the radio.

This was played at her service today.

    RIP,Aunt Nan
