CQN Magazine, Fit and Proper issue, out now!

323

With an eye on the interesting weeks and months that lie ahead, this month’s issue of CQN Magazine is titled Fit and Proper, as we investigate some of the goings-on in the game.  To give these times some perspective, we take you back to 1994, when our own club was on the verge of collapse.  It’s all there, including video of the legendary “Cambuslang is a reality”!

Celtic was rescued and rebuilt by the collective action of thousands of ordinary supporters, the active planning of a small number and the icy focus of Fergus McCann.  Fergus had his critics, and we recall some of the conflict here, but as Shakespeare said, “Cometh the hour, cometh the man”.  He was unquestionably the right man to relieve the old board of their duties.

This was an important time in our history so we’ll take any excuse to relive, recall and read over those times. Nor do we make any excuse for our alert focus on events elsewhere.

The story of other parts of Scottish football is important to us as we will have a roll in its future.  Celtic fans must be aware of the issues and be ready to voice their opinions should an opportunity come for clubs, the SPL or SFA to made a decision on how to pick up the pieces after a serious financial crisis at one or more clubs.  We cannot be asleep when the hour arrives.

There is tons more of the usual fare in the magazine, including analysis of our January signings, fans’ stories, a look back at our 65-year-old Polish heritage and some of the reasons why there may be a million football clubs in the world, but there’s only one Celtic.

Hope you enjoy it.  Thanks to everyone who has contributed or worked on it.

  1. Does anyone know ,if any questions have been asked about mr ogilvies knowledge of the alleged tax problem up ibrox way . correct me if im wrong but was he not a big player at ibrox around that time . just wondering like, as along with Murray he seems never to get a mention, (so they must be ok right). But if not ,he holds an inside position at hq does he not . As much as i pray that they are proved guilty . i still feel deep down that leniency will be bestowed on them . the only chance we have of ice cream and jelly is if all this is handled outside this country, cant see past the helping hand that was denied us, being offered freely to them . Ive seen it all to often to think they will get closed down . SORRY TO SAY .

  2. Much as I enjoy cup finals, it must be said that Hampden is a pathetic excuse for a stadium with possibly the largest percentage of poor/ useless/ sh*t spectating facilities of any stadia in my experience.

Only at seat at the Bigotdome is worse.

    Exactly!

An idea dreamed up by someone who has never had to countenance that their team may have to deal with the harsh reality of being financially(and morally) bankrupt .

And, by association, the supporters belief that their god given right to supremacy is being fundamentally challenged.

To develop this further, they are psychologically fecked as well because, as we know, they arra peepil no longer!

  6. Happy birthday to Martin42…

by your monica I can deduce that you are 70 today…

    no flies on BT…

  7. Mad Vlad is playing it beautifully with Hearts. Rangers get saved by the SNP government then he will push for the same with Hearts. Salmond is a Jambo and he is playing them at their own game. He is patient. He has owed HMRC money to gauge reaction and he hasn’t paid players on time which is apparently not uncommon at most Scottish clubs.

They will either both be saved or both go down. Hope they both die a slow death.

Hoops to get on the scoresheet tonight and Celtic to win 2-0.

Keep eleven men on the pitch and the points are ours!

I don’t know why you are all laughing about Cousin other than the fact that he probably will do a runner when he sees how much he’ll get in wages a week.

If they sign him he will be given licence to assault Celtic players.

That filthy animal hospitalized McManus, drew blood from Caldwell’s head and wasn’t booked for either.

A scumbag and perfect fit for the Fat PLG’s hatchet men.

I still fume with rage at how the sinister Minister booked 9 Celtic players on a day where that animal put the Celtic captain in hospital and received no booking. He also was at the centre of a headbutt on Lee Wilkie in the other Sinister Minister game when united were cheated by his antics. in their desperation another ref will step forward – Collum being the obvious choice – and let them away with all manner of assault.

Consider his leniency on Sunday towards practically every Rangers player who tried to boot everything in tangerine off the park.

We are seeing what Rangers always do with their backs to the wall – they bring out the boot boys. Twas ever thus.

I hope he doesn’t sign or we’ll have a few more Kayal on the sideline efforts.

The cup draw done by two ex-huns C Ogilvie & B Davis .

And the out-come – Celtic get the hardest (on paper) draw of the round.

‘Maybe it’s just me but….Protestant Scotland will just stand there and watch Hun FC die?’

Kev: I have a theory that most of Scotland will actually be quietly relieved when the Foe Malign eventually curls up and dies.

I think that while very many people in Scotland may still privately harbour anti-Irish/Catholic sentiment (aren’t we all capable of harbouring irrational prejudices from time to time?), I think that outside the zealotry which attaches itself to Rangers, most Scots of whatever cultural persuasion now recognise that the old prejudices which linger beneath the Rangers banner are unjustifiable in these culturally diverse times.

That said, I also have a suspicion that most Scots would be happier still if Celtic were to disappear, too.

Oh, well: you can’t always get what you want!

agree 100% – McCoist was assistant coach that day, and was signalling to Cousin to go in with his elbows up.

Hopefully a defender in one of the opposition teams will go straight through Cousin and put him out of the game. if not, it will be up to us to do it ourselves.

No other option I fear…. it simply leaves them carte blanche to assault us otherwise. Kudos to caldwell for shrugging off his knock and competing with cousin for the rest of the game, but a far more robust approach will be needed in future if Cousin returns.

One observation though: McCoist is looking at free-agent targets – a strategy that could pay dividends. Neil was also looking for a target man striker… I’m not saying he should sign Cousin, but perhaps a look at the available free agents could yield a short-term solutiuon for us?

  16. Giggsy re the National Disgrace – if I’d typed what I really wanted to I wouldn’t just have recieved a red card from Paul, I think I would have been received a lifetime ban!

  20. Lux Celt

    We’ve seen this before.

When they secured their 9 hately was brought back to assault Celtic players and duly did. He got sent off eventually in that game but he had done what he was brought in to do – another scumbagish performance from Cousin is what the Fat PLG is wanting.

I hope he does not sign because we know what is coming if he is up there with Lafferty, Elbows, Edu and Goian.

Hoofed up the park thuggery and they’ll be allowed to.

With Thomson and Collum having had a game each that leaves Murray as the most obvious choice for the next game. He is better at dealing with thuggery than the other two but don’t rely on him. At their place anything goes for them but our men get sent off for nothing on that ground by comparison with what they get away with.

For the sake of football Celtic must win this league and condemn them to the death they deserve.

Happy Birthday, Martin42. Does that make you 70. According to the Bible, a holy number. What better way to mark it than they and their Edinburgh cousins go to the wall…

  26. A win tonight would not only restore our lead, it would be another blow to the combined forces of hundom, east and west. I often think that a draw would do when heading for that midden but for this, and other obvious reasons, I really want a win tonight
