CQN Golf Open 2016

The 12th annual CQN Open Golf Day will take place at Aberdour Golf Club in Fife on Friday 29 July. Our annual trip to Aberdour is always a fantastic day. Those who play golf (not me) enjoy the stunning Fife course, while we all participate in an evening’s entertainment and chat.

The day is always fully subscribed, so if you want to attend, please email Taggsybhoy at cqnopen2016@gmx.co.uk . Cost for the full day’s golf and evening meal is £80. There are a limited number of dinner and evening-only places available at a cost of £45.

We’ve raised tens of thousands of pounds for good causes far and wide over the previous 11 events, and enjoyed some great times. See you there.

Aberdeen’s visit to Fir Park on Saturday looked like a stiff test on paper before news broke that the Motherwell squad has been devastated by a virus, which has forced the club to cancel training this week. There’s little Celtic can do about that short of extending their lead to four points earlier tomorrow afternoon with their visit to Rugby Park.

Kilmarnock are marooned in the play-off position: 8 points from bottom, and five from Inverness and Hamilton above them. They’ve scored only once in their last four home games but have the curious claim to be unbeaten by Celtic this season.

We looked sloppy on our first trip to Rugby Park in the autumn and impotent when we faced them at Celtic Park. Kilmarnock would perhaps suggest they simply figured out how to frustrate us. They’re not alone with that belief.

I was concerned about last week’s game against Thistle and Kilmarnock tomorrow. Our next outing, in two weeks against Hearts, will take care of itself, the adrenaline will pump for that one, but we need to create our own intensity away to teams in the bottom half of the table.

We didn’t turn in a classic performance last week but, straight from the off, it was clear we were sharper than at any point since thumping Hamilton two months ago. A focus returned to the squad (as did a Commons and a Bitton). With the large uptake of tickets by Celtic fans I expect our edge to be evident from the start.

Every time I try and do something on here I get a wee photy of the Tower of Pisa or similar.

Can’t turn a page, refresh a page or log in without them.

It’s doing my head in to the point I am seriously thinking of chucking it.

  2. Reflections on Res 12:

Probably the biggest difference between now and when Fergus McCann was in town is that Fergus was effectively the executive chairman of the club; he was the majority shareholder and had a clear plan, which included maximising his investment over a short timeframe.

On the Cadete Registration Fiasco, it was he who ‘went’ for Farry, knowing that Farry’s misconduct had already cost him and that not to do so would likely put his (personal) investment in further danger: the club’s interest were very much his own interests.

In so many ways, Peter Lawwell is not Fergus McCann: he doesn’t have the clout or the financial investment: his personal stake is not nearly as high.

He may even think that he’s in ‘added time’ as our CEO, since it’s unusual for a highly ‘compensated’ club CEO to be in post as long as he has.

Although his pay and bonus package is linked to the club’s financial out-turn, he’s really just an employee who takes instructions from the Board (not least DD, but also the Board as a collective).

On this Res 12 imbroglio, PL will most likely feel he has neither a Board mandate nor personal need to go after Stewart Regan and the rest of the SFA cabal and (again, unlike Fergus) is himself conflicted by his membership of several high-level SFA committees.

It would be natural to assume that the Board looks to Peter for advice on all sorts of fan and shareholder interface-related matters.

DD (the dominant presence on the Board) lives overseas and it is safe to assume that Celtic is but a relatively small item on his agenda, so that he, much more than the UK-resident Board members, is dependent on PL’s accurate interpretation of the mood and possibilities surrounding matters such as this.

With that in mind, I have the distinct feeling that this [the Board’s Res 12 vacillation] is a gigantic Board-level cock-up, the intensity of fan response to which will come as something of a surprise.

I also imagine that the Board meeting nearest to the ST renewal date could be an ‘interesting’ one for PL.

    I hope so, anyway.

I also hope that by then it won’t be too late for the Board to restore a semblance of faith with the fans and other stakeholders.

    Time will tell …

.. after a night on the town (was 19 at the time) I was woken by my mum shouting

“Where’s the bloody kettle? What’s happened to the kettle? ”

It was at this point I realised I had my arms around the bloody thing, under the duvet.

Got slagged for months… and yes, I’ve heard them all! :-)

  15. Unusal items in fridge:

After an excellent Friday night on the tiles with a group of mates [sadly, I wasn’t there], a good friend of mine and his buddies decided to round off the night with a Chinese take away and a few tins of lager back at his house.

Well into the wee small hours, with the last of his pals finally having drifted home, he made a cursory effort to tidy up his living room, binning empties and putting the leftover take away into the fridge for Saturday lunch.

On rising, late on the Saturday, he sat down to tuck into lunch, only to discover a medium-sized dental plate ensconced amidst the special fired rice.

Fair beelin’ at this apparent lack of hygiene on the part of his until-then-favourite take away establishment, he raged down the road to complain, long and loudly at his shocking discovery, calling the manager everything under the sun and fit to burn.

On returning home, he found a message on his answer phone from one of his erstwhile mates asking if he had found a dental plate, while tidying up …

    Ha ha ha….brilliant.

Ma mammy wance came into the living room wae a handful of tattie peelins in one hand to throw on the fire, and her false teeth in the other.

Unfortunately I as usual done something to divert her attention – cannae remember what, too many to pick one out….. so she threw her teeth on the fire and pit the peelins in her mouth.

PANIC ensued as she tried to retrieve her gnashers (I didn’t know she could use words like that)….and of course I couldn’t help her because I was pishing myself, helpless wae laughter.

    The Leaning Tower .

Been a bit of a stooshie in Pisa re the Toon Cooncil’s intention to mount a big clock on the Tower. The Major has justified the decision by stating that there ‘s little point in having an inclination if you don’t have the time.

  19. Tourism in Italy and Leaning Tower of Pisa both collapse. Philbhoy accused!

Anyway….I try not to talk about ‘them’ but they are determined to be the longest running farce since ‘run for your wife’……same club/different club I’m totally confused now…..I think the creditors will be waiting on this outcome with some salivation!

  23. Right last bit of idiocy for as I head for a cure….although this may not be quite as weird as it may appear…

This is a pic taken by the hubble telescope. It is a stellar cluster that lies approximately 170,000 light years away. Obviously that means that we are seeing it as it was that number of years ago..

When I look at it I wonder what it looks like now?….And if there are life forms there taking pictures of us….and posting them on their version of facebook?

All those little flashes may not be the light from stars, but more advance iPhone 10s that ET and his mates are training on us and watching illegal streams of the Celtic matches.

I really worry about my own sanity at times.
