Craig Whyte owns the club, stupid

183

Rangers’ administrator, Paul Clark, last night released an utterly bizarre statement in response to the SFA punishment for breaking a lengthy list of rules in the lead up to and since Craig Whyte’s takeover of the club 11 months ago.  Clark said:

“It appears that on one hand the disciplinary panel accepted our central argument that responsibility for bringing the Club into disrepute lay with the actions of one individual – Craig Whyte – as is evident from the unprecedented punishment meted out to him.

“During this hearing the Club produced compelling evidence from a number of sources that following his takeover, Craig Whyte ran the Club in a thoroughly unaccountable manner, rather than adhering to a long-established and proper form of corporate governance.

“The thrust of the charges against the Club focused on non-payment of payroll taxes and evidence was produced that all such decisions in this area were taken by Craig Whyte during his tenure.

“Given this evidence, it is difficult to comprehend that the disciplinary panel has seen fit to effectively punish the Club even more heavily than Mr Whyte. As everyone knows, it has already been decided he is not a fit and proper person to run a football club and any further punishment on him will have little or no impact.

“Furthermore, we do not know how bidders for the Club will react to these sanctions and what affect they will have on their proposals.”

Mr Clark should know better.  Companies, including football clubs, are responsible for the corporate acts of their directors.  Also, Craig Whyte owns 85% of Rangers and should he sell it in the weeks ahead, his sale price could be directly enhanced by a lesser punishment.

Moreover, Mr Whyte is also the secured creditor for Rangers.  Whatever bids prospective buyers of the club submit, up to around £30m, will go directly to Craig Whyte.  If this punishment reduces the value of Rangers it reduces the money Whyte will receive as a shareholder and as a creditor.

There is no point in Duff and Phelps squealing now. If they wanted to separate club from owner they should have brought more focus to the sale process weeks ago. This punishment is measured and appropriate.

  1. Its ironic that Airdrie are put to the wall by SDM, Celtic pay them £100k for a quality kid and enable the newco to continue

  2. I know it’s pretty much an academic question … but … when does the registration ban actually start?

As they are in administration they cannot sign any players right now anyway. In theory therefore the 12 months should start from when/ if they come out of administration.

RogueLeader, loved your Chelsea fan quip.

Also loved the Airdrie fan suggestion.

TinyTim, terrible news. Take care, my condolences to you and S.

A few steps I think the Celtic board should make at this time. The last thing we need is to be complacent and have another opportunity go by because of poor preparation and planning. These are the steps I suggest.

1.Boil water according to directions and depending on how many packets you will be making.

2.Empty the contents of the jelly into a mixing bowl.

    3. Stir with a wooden spoon until dissolved…

Now you are all being unfair saying that the newco won’t have any history

Of course it will. It will forever be connected to cheating , tax avoiding , walking away , manchester , barcelona and many other barbaric invasions in western europe. It is good to know where you are coming from to know where you are going too. Their fragmented and disgraced cheating history will remain no matters what youse peepol think. Declan will agree with me so I must be write.

Any chance of a bullet-point layman’s rundown of where the Rangers are now? I’ve been travelling for two days and have just caught up via CQN.

This one from last night came out of the blue for me – even though I knew of the SFA’s investigation, I didn’t know the details – like what were the “charges” against the club / Craig Whyte?

  22. It will be the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland and as the sun sets on the 3 August 2014, the curtains will close forever on the 20th Commonwealth Games. Will Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, with dignified respect, lay a remembrance wreath at the blue gates of Ibrox or will she just swing by Bairds Bar for a shindig with Shebeen and a wee celebratory double ice-cream and jelly?

Well agent Whyte was put in there on a mission (he should get a stand named after him and a seat in celtics directors box for this), and D&P stands for Paddy & Declan who are playing a blinder aswell………

  25. StMichaelsBhoy2 on

From the Scotsman. Made me laugh..

“Belgian superstar Luc Vidasion was in despair last night, as his mega-bucks move to Rangers was scuppered at the last minute by the SFA’s draconian and vindictive decision to ban the Dignified Govan club from signing any new players for 12 months.

Vidasion, 25, has scored an incredible 100 goals in his last 90 league matches in Belgium and was desperate to clinch his dream move to Ibrox, with Alistair McCoist ready to part with £20m (almost half of his summer warchest) to land the free-scoring striker.

Rangers though would not be held to ransom… er sorry, Rangers are now believed to be moving onto other targets, with the club keeping tabs on German wunderkind and U16 captain, Jurgen Busst.

An Ibrox insider last night refused to give up hope of landing the Belgian scoring sensation though, saying, ‘Luc Vidasion will be here sooner or later.'”

  26. So D&P think it’a all Whyte’s fault, and RFCiA shoudl be spared? Well in that case what were all the other directors, office bearers and staff at Ibrox doing whilst he was up to no good? An entire organisation the size of Rangers cannot put the blame all on one guy, even if he is in their eyes a megalomaniac control freak.

RFC have gotten what was coming to them for some time, I’m just surprised just how much of the bookcase got thrown at them.
