Creating a beleaguered narrative, just in case

339

If Newco think SFA board member Gary Hughes is likely to be a thorn in their side due to his Celtic supporter credentials, or because he referred to (Oldco) fans as “the great unwashed” in 2006, I suspect they are mistaken.

Hughes was a member of the SFA board which last year decided decline the SPFL’s decision to investigate Oldco’s practices.  What has now happened, due to the Daily Record’s splash on Hughes’ comment this morning, is that he is effectively neutered on the subject of Newco/Oldco.

None of this is likely to impact on the forthcoming action of Rangers licence to compete in European football in 2011, Gary Hughes has no influence there whatsoever.  But it helps create a beleaguered narrative, should matters go against the Rangers group of clubs.  And that lot, great or otherwise, do love a beleaguered narrative.

  4. Happy Lisbon Day, everyone.

So envious of all the Bhoys and Ghirls going to One Night In Lisbon tonight. Was looking forward to it for months and then unexpected family commitments took over. If tonighit’s doo is anything like the doo in Casa do Alentjo last year then you’re in for a real treat. Have a great time, everyone.

  5. OldTim: I’ll be in BV by 6pm. Flight arrives into Glasgow at 3pm so as long as there are no delays with that I will have plenty of time.

  6. I reckon it’s time to ditch the old maxim,

“It’s not always easy being a Celtic supporter, but it’s always worthwhile.”

  7. Goooooood Morning CQN – Double Treble (EBT) Champions ???????

Today is a very special day in the lives of us Celtic supporters

But for me is tinged with sadness and Huge Pride

My Auld Da, would have been 82 today

He was so proud when visited in hospital last year on our return from Lisbon

To sit in the hospital ward and wear his Lisbon 50 t-shirt, telling them all about his Sons visit to Lisbon, he was over the moon, to be known as a Celtic Supporter

Thanks for passing that on Dad –

Proud to be known as a Celtic Supporter

Enjoy your wee Huddle today, with Jinky and the Bhoys where you are

    Hail Hail

Been told I need to start getting ready for a wedding I’m going to in 4 hrs ?

Neganon, I fully understood what you had said last night

Not sure it merited any response from Celtic, not this time

    But for me

Proud to be known as a Celtic supporter

Mr Hughes comments were very mild ?

Hello this is WEE BGFC. Morning Timland from The People’s Republic of The Plains. Whit aboot they clowns at the other side of the Clyde!! No explanation what-so-ever. I doubt they’ll fill that stand or, indeed, the stadium. They’re a bitter bunch right enough. Don’t worry, there’s plenty to talk Da into letting us go anyway ;).

Just heading out for an hour

Lionsroar67 got out of hospital on Tuesday

    Now in recovery mode ?

Stitches out today, but his wound is infected, and still a lot of pain

Keep him in thoughts, still a bit to go

    Hail Hail

  13. LR67 if you are lurking all the best, I had an infection from my hip replacement in February and it can be worrying, but I was treated at home by a nurse and antibiotics and the nurses were brilliant.

I am not trying to belittle your surgery, as it was probably a lot worse than mine.

    Try and stay positive. KTF

    God bless

    D. :)??

  14. I just read a comment by Peter Lawwell stating that there is a new roof being fitted to the south stand. Anyone have any more detail on this?

I find the latest ramblings by dodgy Dave infuriating. I know we (the club) have a more measured approach, but am coming to the conclusion that we should just go in both barrels from now on.

  15. Marspapa @11.09 hrs yesterday.

I have just logged on and notice your kind reply yesterday morning.

It would have been a pleasure to meet for a chat and a pint. Hopefully another time.

Inveraray was truly beautiful yesterday . I have been a few times previously, but yesterday the weather seemed to enhance the surroundings and history.

Have a safe journey home today and again many thanks for your offer. It was most appreciated.

    Norriem,

We can share this date, my mum passed away last night. Today will be full of memories.

  17. One aspect of the DR article about being a self confessed Catholic is the obvious follow up question.

    “So what”

    Then

” what are you saying here? That because they are Catholics they hate Rangers the way you hate Celtic?”

” In your hate for Celtic do you think they will act as unethically as you do in a way that is now under a charge of dishonesty ?”

Ever considered that you might be wrong?

That Celtic minds don’t work like that?

Ever considered that you only see matters in a way that suits your inner judgement and that judgement could be wrong?

Ever thought of opening and so possibly changing your minds by examining what you think and why?

Therein lies the problem and what the DR publish is the manifestation of a no surrender mindset that as reality is showing hurts them much more than the Celtic mind hurts Celtic. A mindset that permeates Scottish society to an unknown degree.

They are in a Hell of their own choosing and eventually He’ll will mend them. That, if you want to stand back and observe, is how reality works for all of us.

It is the self correcting nature of a universe unfolding as it does.

  18. KevJ

Interesting post but how much of it is based on events being giving a meaning that supports your inner beliefs?

No criticism. Just suggesting you stand back and think about what you think and why and entertain the possibility you might be wrong.

Good health starts in our minds.

I suppose the great advantage of being a self-confessed Catholic must be the time saved waiting penitently in line outside the confessional.

  24. Happy “Los Leones de Lisboa” day to the Celtic family everywhere.

And thank you Gary Hughes for providing a new label that can be innocently dropped into conversations for maximum effect.

An upgrade on last year’s Progress.

Enjoy the day one and all.
