Credibility and self-demeaning rules on boot colour

437

I learned that it’s important to choose the issues you have control over with your kids, and those you allow them to control. Let them take decisions that don’t really matter, as long as you decide the crucial stuff. Footwear was an early one for me. When the boys were younger, I realised how important it was for them to wear the shoes they wanted to wear, not the ones I thought right.

As long as they fitted correctly, it didn’t really matter which shoes they wore, so I let them have control over this issue. Instead of objecting to shoe choices, I supported them. They grew up learning how to make decisions on stuff like footwear, and kids are no different from the rest of us, they like making decisions on things that affect them. While I made them eat vegetables and rationed sweets.

If I turned to them now and said, “You’ll not get the wear out of them”, “They look ridiculous”, or “No, I don’t like the colour”, it would be so far removed from what they expect is their right to decide, they would think I was joking. But they still don’t bat an eye when I tell them what’s good for them and what’s not, because they know I only impose rules that matter.

We have other guidelines at work. We don’t wear jeans. Well not often. Because we’re all adults, sometimes people pitch up wearing them. I’ve never once asked why. Maybe it’s a laundry situation. Occasionally, I know they are going to do a stressful task in front of a PC for 8 hours, so assume they just want to wear what feels comfortable.

Sometimes I reckon it’s because people need a bit of scope to do their own thing, and as it doesn’t really matter, I worry about things which do matter.

There’s another feature of management I’ve seen in business. Every manager needs to make decisions. It’s part of what we expect of ourselves when we are appointed. No one has ever sat down with a manager to carry out a review and been told, “We’re doing just fine, nothing’s going to change”.

If the manager has scope to make significant improvements, the changes will be ambitious. From others, you will get plans for a new Tidy Desk Policy.

Newco manager, Pedro Caixinha, has informed his players they cannot wear green boots, as that is the colour of Celtic. Set aside the fact that this is a contrived attempt to create faux rivalry – it simply won’t. This is a serious contravention of the rules of leadership.

Setting rules about stuff which no one should care about, is self-demeaning. It costs the rule-maker credibility, and credibility is everything in leadership. Especially in a football dressing room.

This guy will be lucky to see the September Weekend.

Lmcbhoy, in the Undertones my perfect cousin video, Damien O’Neill is wearing a Chelsea top.

One of the Chelsea fans did go to a game at Ibrox with a currant bun colleague he worked with in London. He wanted to leave after 5 minutes as the horribles were a bunch of a five letter word beginning with c and has detested them ever since .

The currants always blaming Chelsea fans for their bad behaviour has not endeared them to him either.

Chelsea still have their right wing brothers in blue clowns but from what I have been told they are keeping their heads down but still have their moments. The Chelsea fans I know do not want to play us in a European tie as It will bring their lowlife fans out and various other madmen to have a go at us.

In live games from Stamford Bridge I have saw , there were banners saying Dundalk Blues , Kerry Blues and others from parts of Ireland .

The most racist English fans I have encoutered were Everton fans in 1985. I was at two Everton games that year . The amount of racism displayed put me right off them as a club. A crowd of us were in Portugal on holiday 6 years later. The was a horrible Everton fan in our apartments who was openly racist as well as being in the orange order and the masons. We gave him as wide a berth as possible.

IF AM doesn’t win I’d like to see a new champion.

But…………Federer looks great and Nadal seems to have got over his injury problems.

Del Potro has an outside chance in my opinion.

However, if the top seeds go out before him you never know.

  4. Good Evening CQN

It is with huge sadness I make this post

Today at 17.05 I lost my Auld Dad, having received the Sacrament of the Sick earlier

He has spent the last 7 weeks really poorly in hospital, putting up a great fight

His last conversation with me last night, it went something like this ( as he awoke from his sleep)

Norman, see that wee Jinky (Jimmy Johnstone) the wee swine still owes me £40

He tapped a £10 one week, and gave me it back the following week

Then the next week tapped £20, and gave me it back the next

Then he tapped £40, and we went to our house to watch the Aberdeen v’s them game

As we walked in the door Aberdeen scored and he jumped on my back, he was a bigger rebel than me

Anyway Janet walks in and says what you pair of idiots doing

I never seen my £40, you Mum chased him away :-)

    What a memory Dad

    Rest in Peace “John McCabe”

And Let Perpetual light shine upon you

You can now get to be with Ryan, James , Auld Hubby, and even wee Jinky

    Hail Hail

  5. COWIEBHOY

Very sad to hear of your Dad’s passing.

I will remember you all in my prayers.

May John McCabe rest in peace.

  6. Cowiebhoy,

My condolences on the loss of your Auld Dad. May he rest in peace.

My own Auld Dad and myself were talking about wee Jinky , Bobby Murdoch, Bertie Auld and Charlie Gallagher this morning, along with another of his favourites, whom I never saw playing (at least, I don’t remember): Johnny Higgins.

They have passed on their love of Celtic, like so many others. God bless each and every one of them.

  7. Derby County have completed the signing of Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom on a four-year contract.

An undisclosed initial fee believed to be around £3m had already been agreed for the 24-year-old, who played 38 games on loan with the Rams in the 2013-14 season.

The right-back or centre-back is the second defender to join this summer, following the arrival of Curtis Davies.

Wisdom has also had loan spells with West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City.

The former England Under-21 international was with Red Bull Salzburg last season, making a total of 22 appearances for the Austrian champions.
