Cringe-worthy SFA, pundits and fans don’t lay eggs

402

You wouldn’t announce an event, encourage others to sell tickets, without booking the venue. You just wouldn’t do it. These things have an order: book the venue, then announce the event. It’s a matter of courtesy to all involved, not to mention being an operational necessity.

Why then, do we have the unedifying scenario of Hamilton Accies releasing a statement to say New Douglas Park is unavailable for the date the SFA advertised a Scottish Cup game between East Kilbride and Celtic would take place? It’s just remotely possible that Accies have reneged on an earlier commitment given to the SFA, but the tone of their statement suggests otherwise.

This is for a game which is scheduled to take place one week on Sunday. Fans have to acquire and distribute tickets, travel arrangements have to be made, police and stewarding have to be booked (by East Kilbride, who are the home team, remember).

This should be a great day for the young club but it’s shrouded in considerable commercial uncertainty: how much will policing, stewarding and stadium rental cost? Who at East Kilbride will guarantees these bills and how? The police and host club may take a lax view on credit, but the stewarding provider won’t. What revenue can be expected? None of these issues can be known until a venue is found.

I’m not going to support Pat Nevin’s views, which offended Dundee manager, Paul Hartley on Sportscene at the weekend. I didn’t hear his comments, so cannot conclude if he was talking “absolute garbage”, or if Nevin had verged into the kind of territory which saw him issue an apology under threat of legal action last month. But I’m not convinced the scope of Hartley’s comments are appropriate.

Dundee lose goals. Lots of them. Their only clean sheet since 12 September came against Hamilton Accies last month. The objective facts suggest their defensive strategy is an appropriate subject for criticism. This season they lost 6 in one game against Celtic and 8 over two matches against Ross County.

Analysis and criticism is the domain of pundits and fans, even those, who Paul Hartley notes, have “never coached or managed a team”. Attacking the pundit (or the programme) is easier than explaining a (subjectively) poor defensive record, or keeping clean sheets, apparently.

Paul said “It’s not what it used to be like, away back in the 1980s when you wanted to sit up and watch Sportscene on a Saturday night”. Back then Archie Macpherson fronted the show. Archie told me about a similar run-in he had with Alex Ferguson, who angrily disagreed with the commentator’s view of a defensive infraction.

Archie’s view on his opinion being irrelevant due to his lack of coaching experience was memorable, “I’ve never laid an egg, but I know when I taste a bad one”.

The Foundation Zip Slide in Paradise takes place on 26 March, bookings are now being taken.  This time the slide is higher and longer, leaving the very top corner of the North Stand seating at the Lisbon Lions Stand end, diagonally crossing the pitch to land at the bottom of the Jock Stein Stand, at the South Stand end.

You don’t have a lot of time to get booked and start your fundraising, so get onto it now.  Sign up here.

My reading is that they are using LNS as their ‘legal’ source, which of course has no legal weight at all.

So you’re saying Rangers didn’t die then, Mr. Broadfoot? They just had a slight cold?

You must excuse me, one of the buttons has just fallen off the back of my head, I’ll be back as soon as I’ve sewn it on…….

  4. Flashback to recent and only Celtic v Sevco game.

Sevco morons serenade us with their well worn ditties, the equivalent of Vera Lynn singing “We’ll Meet Again”

Celtic fans respond with Zombie Nation:)

Thems are stuck in a time-warp.

Hopefully they will end up somewhere in the outer reaches of Space, never to return.

Failing that we can always hope they burn in some hell of their own making.

    Works for me:)

What`s the general consensus on here about fans turning their back on football? I know of one diehard CFC fan, season ticket holder for over 30 yrs, supporter for about 55 yrs who says he won’t be renewing next year solely down to his perception of the game being rigged. But although he `says` that, he wonders if he`ll be able to carry it out, as he says CFC are in his DNA.

Celtic have stated categorically in meeting with fan groups that no ‘Old Firm’ terminology will be used if and when Rangers 2.0 are promoted to the top flight. Some looking to have a pop at the club are conveniently ignoring this. There was no Old Firm pandering before the sides met in the semi final of the league cup.

Celtic know the score here and the usual suspects making a song and dance about ‘chucking it’ should spare us the tantrum.

True, if it had legal weight, as you say, they’dve been shouting it from the rooftops, not slipping it in only when questioned about it, hoping everyone will get so wearied by the nonsense that they stop bothering to challenge it.

  11. There are a few things to come out before next season starts, so I’ll keep my powder dry right now, but if I’m being honest, and the season was to start next week as things stand as they do with likes of a phanny like Broadfoot throwing down the gauntlet I’d be picking it up and saying right f…. You Mr SFA I’m not renewing, your move….

It’d be a pity if those who, er, ‘miss’ your posts, for whatever reason, don’t read that great effort by John Clark, for which you put up a link earlier.

  15. Reading The Scottish Football Monitor & Mr Clark’s meeting with Broadffot & McRae with intrest.

While I think it may have been an opportunity missed, it’s clear The SFA have no desire to be truthful. They believe this Same Club myth is the way forward & are betting on 40.000 + turning up at both Ipox & Celtic Park to confirm it.

A while back there were cries for a crowd funded judicial review which I think is a great idea. However reading TSFM’s meeting it occurred to me that this whole house of cards is built on the lie of Same Club. So why not mount a legal challenge towards this one aspect of the “Legal advice” The SFA are hiding behind? Surely it would be cheaper & easier to dispel the myth of Same Club in a courtroom than to fund a judicial review? We have the law on our side with this & no judge no matter how bent. Can possibly find anything other than that The Rangers FC are indeed a New Club? Exposing the lie of Same Club will bring all the cards down. Perhaps one of the legal guys can explain if this is at all possible?

And I doubt if I’ll be on my own, that statement from Broadfoot was Discusting, playing the emotional blackmail card, as I said if things are the same as they are now and the SFA are still in the same frame of mind, I’m afraid I have no option but take him on, because that’s what he is doing, he is challenging football fans all over Scotland letting us know that what HE sais goes, I hope there are many more like me and take him on, if they don’t than the games a bogey here, the SFA are allergic to the word integrity .

  20. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Scottish football as a sport is already dead. That is undeniable. Scottish football does not even have the potential to be considered a sport again. Well not any time soon. It may not be Armageddon well not yet,

but unless something drastic happens I expect it to die even as the professional entertainment industry within Scotland that it presently. It is too parochial, dishonest and dull. If I may use an analogy; while the rest of the world is playing on X-boxes and PS-4´s we are play marbles with muck

Nothing on the park has excited me for a very long time. Mainly due to the drop in quality. I think big Vic´s goal against Barcelona was the last time Scottish football managed to get me off of my feet. There are no leaders, nobody employed within Scottish football entertainment industry that is worth the money that they are being paid, the conclusion being then that they are indeed parasites.

Once this dawns on the general football entertainment public that their main purpose is to provide income for these parasites it will happen quicker.

We have already won. Rangers died.

A new game, with new rules needs made up played and administrated and adhered too, preferably

along the lines of a fair sport. It needs to die first before that can happen

I do think we need a massive change and I think next season if they come up will be a watershed moment for every fan in scottish football. We all walk away the lies die as well as long as we play along they will continue.
