CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

  1. Paul sorry have to disagree. The Csa statement is ill judged and spectacularly ill timed. The implicit threat is unlikely to win any allies, indeed it will simply antagonise other clubs. And at a time when clubs appear to be arriving at the conclusion that they should say no to newco, this statement is unnecessarily belligerent. Very disappointed in the Csa… Once again grandstanding instead of thinking…

    Thought-provoking stuff.

My first reaction is to disagree, but perhaps with more detail on the proposals there are avenues that can be considered.

In the meantime though, I don’t think it can stand up when the SFA and SPL are still calling the shots. Half of the clubs and their own mismanagement need addressed as well. It needs to be clear that it’s not going to be Celtic and our massive support propping up the rest of Scottish football to make it more competitive. It’s proper development that’s needed, and for that to happen there needs to be a total clearout of those ruling (ruining) the game here. I don’t see that happening if we take Campbell O as an example of the mentality in charge here and where it’s going wrong. It’s always been a noble argument for Celtic to lead the way by example, but it’s not worked to date and (apologies for my cynicism) and not likely to for some time. Doesn’t mean we need to work in isolation, just that we’d need to be very careful about what concessions were made.

I even remember a top of the table clash in 1979 (maybe 1980) at Cappielow when Morton beat Celtic 1-0 to go top for Christmas. The ground was full with a very large Morton support as well as Celtic support. Competitive game, ground bursting at the seams.

I have to agree with you on this. I posted yesterday that I feel we should move on and not boycott any clubs if Newco is not voted into SPL – including Kilmarnock.

I have to say though, if Chairmen ignore the wishes of their supporters and vote a Newco into the SPL then I would agree with the boycott. I feel uneasy though at threatening them and do feel that it isn’t a lot different from the behaviour of Jardine. We are better than that.

  5. This is easy;Mr. Green is playing at ‘voodoo economics’. Don’t pay now, never pay later, and in between, cream off what you can with a nod and a wink from your chums on the inside.

No one of any consequence or ‘gravitas’ came forward to help rfc (dead) in their hour of need; so they got the asset stripper they deserve. Why did no one ‘real’ step forward? Because ‘rangers’,in any guise,is a toxic brand, corrupt to the core and utterly shameless and brazen, like a crack addict on a shoplifting spree. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragically pathetic.

Anyway, with Green, the future is bleak for the deluded ones.

He is a self confessed utter mercenary.

  9. After yet another corruption scandal has been exposed in Italian football breaking at the start of a major soccer tournament and the team performing impressively like it was just another day at the office.

Is it not strange that the Italians have not been kicked out of this competition. Is football rotten to the core?

  10. What do you reckon are the chances of there being not enough money going into Newco from the “fans” to keep it afloat so they will end up winding up the newco and selling of the assets to the hightest bidder thus finally committing the name Rangers to the ashes forever

  11. Any Celtic supporter who choses to continue to support the team away from home, at any ground, should be allowed to, free from ridicule or abuse from their fellow Tims.

Yes, that was probably his best season for Morton. I think they ended up about 5th in the league but it was good to see them do well for as long as they did.

I’d like to see us leave the organised boycotting of away grounds to the fans of those teams….a far more powerful message and not one that can be seen as Jardine-like.

  15. Once again,I find myself grinning at all these farcical conniptions.

Just learned from impeccable source that Aberdeen will definitely be voting “NO” to newco, but the balance of the votes at this time is in favour of admitting newco into SPL.

  25. Would the posters who disagree with the CSA’s coercive diplomacy please explain what action the Celtic support take – none, perhaps a robust “down with that type of thing and then carry on as if nothing has changed” when The Rangers are playing in the SPL?. Surely sometimes doing the right thing includes the implied threat of punitive action to ensure that an indiviaual / club act in the interest of the whole?

Having spoken to some of the non Hundead footballer supporters, Dons, Ross county, Dundee Utd, in my office the consenus is that the CSA is doing the right thing. None of them see the CSA as bullying anyone and some have questioned given that we are the only big boy in the playground what has taken our supporters so long to ‘officially’ voice opposition to a Newco in the SPL.
