Cup draw is perfect for Celtic

226

Celtic face either Aberdeen or Newco in the Scottish Cup semi-final on 13 or 14 April.  Both potential opponents must have developed a nervous disposition at facing Celtic at Hampden recently, such as been the imperious form of the champions.  This draw is perfect for Celtic.

In the event they overcome Aberdeen in the quarter-final, Steven Gerrard’s men have a punishing schedule before the semi: Hibs (a), Aberdeen (h), Kilmarnock (h), Celtic (a), Hearts (h), Motherwell (a).  That’s each of the other top six teams in succession, followed by a trip to Fir Park, where they dropped points earlier this season.  If Gerrard has hopes of winning the Cup, he would have wanted Celtic at the end of the season, when he would be able to rest some legs.

On Sunday Derek McInnes all but accepted Aberdeen were out of the title race.  They are now 16 points off the pace, although they have an easier run immediately before the semi-final date, facing Celtic (a), Newco (a), Livingston (h), Hearts (a), Motherwell (h) and Dundee (a).  Their form has dropped off a cliff and were it not for their ability to repeatedly mug Newco in Glasgow this season, they would have little hope of reaching the semi.

Celtic have one game fewer than Aberdeen and Newco (who have a replay), and face Aberdeen (h), Dundee (a), Newco (h), St Mirren (a) and Livingston (h).  By the semi-final we should have McGregor, Christie, Rogic, Ntcham and Benkovic back.  We will be as ready as we can be.

I’m still working on my nervous disposition when facing Inverness in the Scottish Cup, but that’s for another day.

Neil Lennon is big enough to decide his own future. He walks into Paradise with his eyes wide open.

To suggest otherwise could be considered patronising in the extreme.

    Nannystatecsc.

Of course he does.that is not in dispute.

It’s our support mechanisms and how we do things differently from before that count,…..It’s not even that,it’s why we know now before Neil is subjected to anything he will be isolated when it happens .

    ——————————————

Read your repost of the spectator article on the snp/rc relationship.

All I can say is am sure your comfortable in your faith, your political discourse tho…. :-)

    Usual expected shoite from it.

Labour unionists scraping the barrel here

usual no insight offered by the party that gestated and birthed austerity.

No insight offered on Blair and the decapitation of the middle East genie bottle.

None on Broon the 11 toed and fingered chancellor who overseen a transfer of wealth from POOR to rich

Even last couple of years ‘re europe looking for clarity-nothing

  2. The job is Neil’s to lose. If he wins the treble and carries himself properly he will be given a permeant contract. In the interim we as supporters just need to enjoy the games and not worry about it. The Board on the other hand should be compiling a shortlist of candidates incase things go awry.

  3. MADMITCH

    Depends how you view others.

Closed and selfish is the behavior of more than fan groups.

Are you a member of the Green Brigade so can confirm such a mindset?

Why do you see dissenters as haters?

  4. EC67,

I have to (albeit reluctantly) agree with much of your post. The nonsense “he brings it on himself” will rear its ugly head sooner rather than later, e.g if we meet the deid team in the Semi-final, and Establishment Scotland will nod in acquiescence.

I have no regard for Corbyn’s Labour Party but how anyone could vote for the SNP who simply ignore Scotland’s Shame (and when it got so bad, Salmond made sure to play the “one’s as bad as the other card”), baffles me.

Then the SNP bring in the discredited OBAF act, which only really was targetted against us. Now, they and Police Scotland seem to be intending to bring in legislation which won’t really address the root problem: anti-Catholic, anti-Irish racism.

I hope those who organise the Green Brigade sort out their songbook and give them no excuse.

After all, we are supposed to be living in the best wee country in the world……..

I read your post as saying NFL wouldn’t get the requisite support from the footballing or judicial authorities. I fear I agree.

Would he receive the appropriate backing from the CFC hierarchy on and off the field? An excellent question. Many of us would fear not, especially ref calling out the MIBs.

As for supporters. I thought your point was simple, well-made and called out individuals for their actions. In short, in they’re being dicks and besmirching the good name of CFC, then they’re no friend of the club and the wider support.

You mentioned no groups, no age groups (zoomers come at all ages and stages as CQN so well illustrates!), no ‘type’ of fan. Seems impossible to argue with that imho.

The de facto motto of the All Blacks is, don’t be a dick. Can’t ask for much or less than that of ourselves can we!?!

The comment you are responding to was not aimed at the GB — it was aimed at people outside of our support that do not share our worldview.

    Open to all?

Even if they do not share our most basic viewpoints?

  8. If Neil is not successful in getting the head coach/mamager position, maybe a Director of Football role would be available for him, he is certainly intelligent enough, either way he has helped out bigtime in a crisis situation for the sake of the club and that must not be forgotten.

If you understood your history you would understand what SNP stood for.

As for the Speccy article it got more right than it got wrong.

One issue is the failure to call out Bishop Devine for the beginnings of the anti progressive slant in the church.

He was more of a JM cheerleader than a Wee Eck apologist.

However he was just the mouthpiece of an anti Labour reaction in the church.

I had an instructive reminder of late on this issue. After NFL had left Hibs, my hibbee colleague was bemoaning his loss. ‘Good riddance to bad rubbish’ came the retort from the Ayr United fan sitting across from us. Once again highlighted the extent of the ‘gaslighting’ that NFL and ‘Brownie’ have been the subject of for years now. (Took me till recently to stop my dad referring to SB as ‘a bit of a thug’ Cos it’s what the Herald and Shortbread has told him for years)

Do Celtic live up to their Open to All mission statement?

Or they just another corporate entity with a clever slogan

    *****

Not sure who would not be welcome at Celtic, provided they adopt the mission statement .

Anyone who doesn’t wish to adopt those sentiments in the Statement, would not want to be involved in Celtic anyway; which then leave the club open to all who wish to accept its rules, like any club or organisation.

For example, anyone who causes Celtic to be fined or censured over a deliberate breach of the rues, is not welcome.

Anyone who can’t conduct themselves in a civilised manner, is not welcome.

Anyone who pisses on my carpet, is not welcome in my house.

I’m sure you have my point by now.

  20. Jamesgang,

On the morning of the Rodgers departure I headed to my golf club, unaware of any movement.

I met, a usually, very decent, intelligent, educated fellow golfer friend of mine, who broke the news to me of the BR betrayal and that his replacement was to be, “that thug”.

Having no knowledge of what had occurred I asked him to explain.

When he did I asked him to explain his “ that thug” comment.

He was vehement in his character assassination of Lenny.

I cautioned him about the anti Catholic, anti Irish, anti Celtic tone of his rant, to which he insisted,

“sorry EC67, but he’s no’ like you, he’s a thug”, as if it were justification enough.

Neil had done nothing, he hadn’t even been appointed yet!

“The entire episode was a charade. Leicester City avoided ‘tapping up’ charges at the FA while Celtic played the honest brokers caught short by the speed of events. The fact that Neil Lennon was approached in July of last year when the Celtic board first anticipated Rodgers’ departure, and has been kept close ever since, is the raw truth behind this charade.”

  22. Watched the Joe Led interview on Si Ferry youtube .

    Good watch as usual.

    However….

Despite being a massive NL fan that I am and 100% supporting him in his current role .

The nights out drinking culture tales kind of put me off a bit.

Perhaps he is not the man to carry us on after this season.

I know it is widespread still in football but I would really like to see it wiped out from Celtic Park.

Perhaps I am not being realistic but I get the sense that our esteemed former manager BR did not encourage it to his credit and on field success.

Build my catch fencing high if you can pardon my TFOD/17thC songbook vibe.

Just a thought that we should be building more fan matchday facilities to try and generate more revenue.

What would a £10mill budget deliver regarding hospitality plus food+drink outlets?

CP and its surroundings desperately need more investment to provide toilets and places to go away from the rain and the wind. Heading straight to your seat with 60 / 90 minutes to go is the stuff of watching paint dry and plus we don’t make any money.

CP as currently set up is very 1990’s.

    Need to move things on.

Hospitality block @ £10mill behind the JS Stand would be very affordable given our current finances.

The much needed total rebuild of the Main Stand at £50-70mill would need a bit of planning.

CFC 20 year Bonds at 4/5/6% return would be my way forward.
