NICK WALSH will be in charge of Celtic’s bid to retain the League Cup at Hampden a week on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s men will be looking for successive wins in the competition – now under the guise of the Viaplay Cup – when they take on Michael Beale’s Ibrox outfit in the showpiece showdown.

Walsh will be assisted by Frank Connor and David Roome, while Kevin Clancy, who is the whistler against Aberdeen at Parkhead on Saturday, takes up the role of fourth official.

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU…a delighted David Turnbull celebrates making it 4-0 in the derby in September with referee Nick Walsh looking on.

John Beaton will be the lead the VAR team with Graeme Stewart as his No.2 in the control room at the city’s Clydesdale House.

Goals from Daizen Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis gave the holders a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock in last month’s semi-final while their opponents required extra-time to overcome 10-man Aberdeen 2-1 in their tie.

Walsh was the referee in the first Glasgow derby of the season when the champions won 4-0 at Parkhead while Beaton was the man with the whistle in the 2-2 draw in Govan on January 2.

Postecoglou won his first piece of silverware in the competition – then branded the Premier Sports Cup – in December 2021 when Kyogo Furuhashi fired a second-half salvo in the 2-1 comeback triumph over Hibs.
