After ten substitute appearances, Karamoko Dembele joins a long list of other prodigies, released by Celtic (or a later club) without achieving their hoped-for level. Unlike many of the others, Karamoko stayed, hoping to make the breakthrough here, but despite attracting global attention as a 15-year-old and making his debut soon after turning 16, it looks likely the London-born player is set for a career as a jobbing player.
Islam Feruz is just seven years older than Dembele. Chelsea beat off a host of competitors to sign him when he left the Celtic structure at 16. A career totalling 20 appearances ended five years ago with a loan spell at Swindon, remembered mostly for his conviction for driving his Porsche while disqualified.
The body of evidence grows that a player’s potential cannot be reliably assured I his mid-teens. Ben Doak (16), who made his Celtic debut, played in that memorable 3-0 win over Newco, then signed for Liverpool, has it all to prove.
Barry Hepburn, now 18, who left Celtic for Bayern Munich two years ago, or Liam Morrison, who we lost to the same club a year earlier, have it all to prove in Germany. Morrison has made just four appearances for the Reserves in three years since joining Bayern, two from the bench. Hepburn has made the Reserves’ bench only once in two years, but was unused.
Football is absolutely brutal when it comes to inflating and ending the hopes of young talent. A tiny percentage of those considered near certain to make it, actually do. No judgement on Doak, Morrison or Hepburn. They would have gone with dreams of Champions League glory and no doubt an unbelievable wage. Their next contract offer may be less attractive.

Performance in Europe — PL vs BoJo — discuss.
Now that really is a hard question to answer …
Madmitch starts spouting crap early.
MODERATOR1888 – Can we not have a Troll-free period on CQN just for the grown-ups?
Condolences to Sipsini and family. May his Dad Eddie Rest in Peace.
Currently in prayer mode.
If BoJo gets bumped in the next 32 days …
He will have been in post for less time than TM.
Oh the irony.

Not Jacinda / Bunter — charge sheet as long as your arm.
Caught on tape trying to gee up the troops.
Not good.
Probably a coincidence but only a day after Keir Starmer declares that he wants To Make Brexit Great Again members of the Tory government, none of whom voted against Boris recently, decide it is time to force him out. Labour is not going to offer any kind of alternative to the Tories in the next General Election, that much is clear, so when better than to replace Johnson and convince the electorate that they have already made the change the country needs. Not so much a lame duck government as a lame duck opposition.
Who speaks for Europe? Not Labour.

Stop reading tripe on Facebook.
It is put out there to keep the Tories / the rich men’s club in power.
They are all as bad as each other trope throughout the ages.
And if even after that you want to vote they will encourage you to vote for un-electable group of ultras or another — who will always follow the one true path because they never have to deal with the real world / put their plans into action.
See Holyrood in 2003 for confirmation.
See the Greens at Westminster in the here and now.
KS is in a poor position.
The only thing that will unite the Tories going forward is Brexit.
If KS came over all EU luvvie the Tories and their papers would quickly unite around another ERG approved Brexit headbanger — there are loads of them now — and continue with their plans to unchain Britannia and bring back serfdom / indentured servitude.
KS talking nice about Brexit is just a plan to take it out of the equation / firing line.
Reality going forward means that whoever is in government — if they are anyway responsible / able to deal with realty — will have to find a way to develop better relations with the EU.
BoJo and his protocol snidery means that the Establishment knows its not him.
So he goes and hopefully quickly.
Brexit plebs vs establishment — will get messy.

You showed your understanding of politics just before the voters went to the polls in the two recent
by-elections. Clueless doesn’t begin to cover it.

Professional worrier.
You might have noticed the Tory news grid in action the week before.
All the focus on the rail strikes with various hard luck stories paraded daily.
The strategic aim is to rile the public up against the RMT so that they can impose cuts.
The tactical aim was to show Labour in a bad light and get their vote out.
It didn’t work by they gave it a very good go and they will try it again.
With or without BoJo — the Tories will scheme with the media.
You might not notice it but I do.
Cue the worry.
SIPSINI…

That is what is known as a false dichotomy.
You would hope that people could learn from the past.
2017 — JC as the sparky outsider / manifesto that was expansive and different.
Took the establishment by surprise and engaged with a curious electorate.
2019 — JC as the crabbit revolutionary / hamstrung by a lack of flexibility and depth.
Establishment / Tories done a number on him with below the radar interweb character assassinations.
No ability or even desire to fight back — phoning it in with a manifesto that was a poor quality students dinner.
RMT1 = Sparky individual engages with a curious public.
RMT2 = The establishment will come prepared — working the ground as we speak to do a number on him. He has more depth / humanity than JC but he will have a bigger fight on his hands the next time.
I hope he comes prepared — I fear the JC/68 stuff has made him an easier target.
Not a fan of Starmer but Labour fighting another GE on brexit having been handed their arse on a plate over it in 2019 would be political suicide. Brexit is done. It’s consequences have to be felt by those that supported it before anyone can suggest a move back towards Europe – and that may take some time yet.
Apologies to the poster who pointed this out yesterday.te
Both friendlies against Blackburn and Norwich, are, as shown on the Celtic tickets seats available website, pretty much sold out. There are a few seats available here and there. Now, these games, as I understand it, and included in your season ticket, does the absence of seats available mean that all, or virtually all of these seats have been taken up by ST holders? Or just assumed to be so? Genuine question.
CM @ 10.37
Unfortunately not — the language of priorities is the religion of socialism.
What comes first — visa free travel or a reduction in poverty?
One has to be primary / the other secondary.
Or to put it another way — short term vs long term?
I know my thoughts on this.
What about yours?

I’ve never heard of a transfer deal being referred to as a package so often by so many outlets – with not one reporting on the actual guaranteed fee. £6 million for Aribo according to Fabrizo Romano.
Imagine if we sold CalMac for £6million !? The barriers would have to be put up again outside the boardroom.

entry for ST holders is with our season ticket cards which we already have. whether we go or not is up to each one of us. there is no mechanism to put these on sale if we decide not to go. so effectively the tickets has already been sold hence they dont show on the web site to buy

Did membership of the EU, by and large, help raise the living standards of the poorest parts of Western Europe, Ireland from the 1970s and Portugal from the mid 1980s?
Or are you back to arguing for socialism in one country?
Long time since I’ve heard that one.
Is there not other blogs for politics?

Brexit is self harm — but it is a mass participation sport at the moment.
Too many people — the expansion vote — see Brexit as the only time their voices have been heard and they loath to let it go — economic harm or no economic harm. The prevailing view is that they have been left behind all their lives and although it might be sore to them it must be excruciatingly painful to those further up the economic ladder and so the self harming continues.
Compare and contrast the expansion element of the Indy vote — the 15% who were not true believers but wanted to break a status quo as they felt they were being dumped upon.
They are now the hold outs / the reason why Not-Jacinda is jumping through hoops to try and offer progress that she knows she can’t deliver.
This 15% have been marched up to the top of the hill and they don’t want to come down.
lets all do the huddle
Thanks for that! Difficult to see a way around it, short of some kind of activation process, or ticket resale system.
CELTICMAC at 10:46
I tried to buy 2 tickets together the other day to take my grandson and the only ones available, and there weren’t many, were up in the gods, rows Z and BB etc. Yesterday they were all gone ( seats tog, that is). And yes, the presumption seems to be that all ST holders will be turning up during Glasgow Fair fortnight for friendlies against 2nd division English teams.
The usual practice for European games is that
ST holders get priority, which is dead right, and any slack goes on general sale. Maybe it’s not worth the bother to do this for these games as the prices are too low and, well, they just can’t be bothered.
It’s worth keeping an eye on the ticket site just in case they do something about this.
Sipsini, Condolences on the passing of your Dad, best wishes to you and your family

As you say, scrolling past is your perogative.
You could also put up a topical Celtic post which would hopefully stimulate interest and initiate a debate.
Cheers and HH.

CELTIC MAC on 6TH JULY 2022 10:46 AM

—————————————————————-
Good point CM.
Both the Blackburn and Norwich friendlies are on the season card, a good thing imo. With 55,000 seats already sold, that leaves only around 5,000 ish for general sale. Maybe even less if Blackburn and Norwich are given an allocation.
The general ticket sale opened at 11am on Monday, online only. Just a few seats available, scattered around the stadium.
Given it’s the holiday season, there will be plenty who can’t make it and have no takers for their card. Both games could end up being sold out but with 10,000 empty seats, maybe more, when the games are played.
A well thought out and robust seat exchange scheme is something that Celtic should consider. A scheme that works for all parties concerned.
