DAILY RECORD DROPS 13.17%, SUNDAY MAIL DOWN 12.43%

DAILY RECORD and SUNDAY MAIL have suffered another set of devastating circulation results for January 2016.

In the daily newspaper sector the Daily Record reported the biggest year on year percent fall of 13.17%, seeing its circulation drop to an all-time low of just daily 176,892 copies for the month of January 2016.

The steep decline in the Record’s circulation is now faster than any other daily newspaper in the UK, according to the recent results issued by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC).

And what might be of further concern to the management at The Record is the impressive results reported by the free Metro newspaper which increased its circulation again to 1,348,033. The Metro is reported to be performing very well across Scotland’s towns and cities, eating into the Record’s traditional audience.

Moving onto the Sundays and SUNDAY MAIL has now fallen below the psychologically important 200,000 circulation mark having averaged  just 195,167 newspapers sales across the Sundays in January 2016. This represents a year on year decline of 12.43%.

Celtic supporters remain suspicious of both newspapers, believing that they favour the new club at Ibrox and are strongly influenced by their PR firm which is run by former Record sports editor Jim Traynor.

Maybe supporters of other clubs in Scotland feel the same way?
