Dangerous teams with nothing to lose

482

We lost at Ibrox in January to a team that did not record a single attempt on target, not even at the own-goal we conceded.  We lost there again this month having missed a penalty and even better chances, while assisting the effort with another own-goal.  Frankly, Newco must be wondering how poorly they need to play against us to lose a game.  Nothing I saw from the home team in either of our recent defeats there justified fear of them.

If the old adage ’beware the straw man’ holds true, Celtic will deliver.  The straw man has nothing to lose or fear.  What have Celtic got to lose heading to Ibrox on Sunday?  This should be the most relaxed Celtic team to head there in Newco’s 9-year history.

The dubious motivation, to stop Newco’s unbeaten run in the league, feels a bit beneath us, but still…..

While I agree with every word of your post, Brown was always going to be almost impossible to replace like-for-like.

I agree that McGregor isn’t the answer and the answer certainly doesn’t lie within our current squad.

  3. sometime soon Gp.

You make a valid point . Other than Broony , Leadership qualities are in very short supply and might have to be provided by a newcomer .

Every single day same rubbish from our 2 resident political wizards. I wrote to PAUL yesterday about this . Beginning to think JOBO was right .

  7. Sorry to return with only a political comment.

But the current football situation is dire and Thursday is much more important than tomorrow.

Plus AnS looks as if he cares while NL just phoned it in this season.

The Nats blogosphere is just so precious.

Offer an alternative opinion and they head for the hills.

Consequently could we please return to that old CQN chestnut — Scotland / The colonial angle.

Please investigate this concept through the prism of our attempts to get into the EPL …

The question has been asked in Nat cyberspace — Is Scotland a colony?

1000 words of complaining / grievance / moon howling.

Written up by a retired guy who made an academic career out of counting containers.

Currently on the Lawson indy blog and the man who scares big red burds.

Not sure what is worse — this nonsense or the alphabet soup / gender woo woo stushy.

However on a Saturday morning trying to make sense of the DL shambles I need cheering up.

CP for him and SD must have been a stag weekend that lasted 8 months.

We are now a football laughing stock.

And then there is the politics …

So can we consider Scotland to be a colony of England / Westminster / “Posh Boys Inc”?

    *****

    *****

Utter dross of the highest order.

Grievance mongering turned up to 11.

Understanding of history — partial / forced / slanted.

In the context of today — why are we not called Pictland / Caledonia? — the true colonisers were the Scots.

Why don’t we push the use of Welsh in Glasgow — Gaelic is the import of the oppressor or failing that the stupid.

Central Belt perspective — Our capital should be Dumbarton or Govan rather than that volcanic ridge we borrowed off the Angles. Edwin — now there is guid “Scots’s” name …

    .

Learn some real history rather the Mel Gibson / Hollywood version.

We are a much more complex nation than the SNP want to deal with.

The Romans didn’t find a border at Berwick / Carlisle so why should we live our lives through that artificial prism?

This is all just a descent into the abyss of identity politics wrapped up with warm words.

The current drive for independence is just the cult of Darien for the new millennium.

Same groupthink — the desire for easy money and easy answers.

Darien — now there was a real colonial endeavour.

Not for me — sounds too much like the “Real Ale Twa*ts ” from Viz.

I am thinking of two things:

    1. Broonie’s farewell (possibly Griff too) against the new club. The end of an era.

    2. Creating a sense of positivity (I saw some ‘pundit’ claiming they have gotten into the heads of the Celtic players, and I was fortunate enough to be there the night Celtic beat them Jan 1998 – psychologically so important for a variety of reasons)

    ————————-

I’d be more interested if we’d been bedding in some youngsters into the team this season, tomorrows match would then certainly mean more if you knew these players were just starting out with Celtic and taking that experience into the new season.

In hindsight (or maybe not to some of us) Brown and Griff should’ve been replaced last season, not still here taking up starting positions their performances don’t really deserve.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I agree that Broonie should have been used more sparingly, but you would have punted him on the verge of a possible ten. I wouldn’t have, but that’s probably why I never managed a team above underage level.

  11. The current TFOD2 team are effective — they make the most of what they have.

I do not think they are a good team just a case that they are playing well and make the most of the little talent that they have.

AMcG looks like he lives and sleeps in a sea of caffeine.

Hyper to the point that I think he should see a doctor.

    Quality ?!?

AM = Fat GH and little else.

    RK = playing with confidence

    NB = solid LB

GK = At the top of his game.

JA = shows a bit of promise.

JT = all hype / style — journeyman forward slumming it at RB.

CG = Karma will catch up with him.

KR = The police will catch up with him.

  13. Beyond irony that JB — code name us — would be the man to cut the Irish tax scam industry off at the knees.

He seems to be a man on a mission so hopefully he sorts it out.

Currently we have Dublin yuppies stealing crusts out of the mouths of poor American children.

Not a great look for the 2020’s.

  14. OMG — May 1971 not Aug 1970 …

In my defence my main memory is that it was Sunny.

50 years ago today in fact.

    Calls for a small celebration.

  15. Interesting poll just completed on the island of Ireland.

A clear majority in Northern Ireland and also the Republic would not accept higher taxes to fund reunification.

And only one in eight in the Republic would be prepared to fully subsidise Northern Ireland – with a third opposed outright to any form of subsidy.

Seems the old adage “it’s the economy, stupid” is alive and well across the Irish Sea.

The two latest polls on indy in Scotland show the same trend; with the separation fantasy losing traction to the harsh reality of life without the annual deficit-funding fiscal transfer of the Barnett Formula, the massive UK support on Covid & the stupidity of hard-border with our biggest market in England.

  16. I think the two amigos are entitled to their views. I just want them to tell me which cult they wish me to follow – so please name it, and I’ll think about it.

  17. In all my dealings with JOBO, I found him to be one of the most accommoding, courteous and helpful persons on the blog.

Hmmmm, if only that was actually the case. Sadly, petty old firm one-upmanship remains the biggie and no sign of that changing any time soon.

Even the death of the other half hasn’t ended it!

Seventeen years of failure in Europe and still we prioritise old firmery, regardless of how that diminishes us and helps the other partner. Strange.
